Love this Hostel!!! Pros: Nice and clean(Room, restroom, shower, lobby, kitchen, lounging area) Have automatic coffee machine,(not those Kerig) $1 a cup. FREE BEER NIGHT!!! Have charging stations everywhere! Even by your bed AND in your locker!!! Have Rocky movie poster on every floor indicating which floor you are on. Rocky(1st floor), Rocky 2(2nd floor), Rocky III( 3rd floor), Rocky IV(4th floor). They have pool table, piano, board game for your entertainment. Tons of restaurants within walking distance. You do need your keycard to get into the hostel AND to the stairs to your room. They have vending/soda machine by the kitchen Cons: NO Elevator!!! Sometimes it's hard to walk all the way up to the top floor. You might missed this street if you were wondering around on Market st, if you walk past 2nd or 3rd st, you go too far because this Bank st is between those 2 streets. I almost got lost a few times. The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak, not strong at all, but they are pretty warm so that's good. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone who are staying in town for a few nights.

I stayed at Apple Hostels for two days in October and it was a delightful surprise. Nestled in Old City, it's a convenient hub for exploring nearby attractions like Independence Hall. The warm staff organized themed events, and the communal areas were clean, inviting, featuring comfortable seating and musical spaces. The fully equipped kitchen was a boon for budget travelers. Cleanliness and safety were great in my 6-bed female dorm. The hostel stored my suitcase post-checkout. While there are two buildings, I explored one and found it charming. Keep in mind, there might not be an elevator. Highly recommend Apple Hostels for a budget-friendly and enjoyable stay. Can't wait to return! *I am not affiliated with Apple Hostels. My experience here is flavored by bad luck ( I got sick the second day of my stay and checked out early). I arrived late (around 10pm) on a Sunday night to check in and while it took some time for the front desk staff person to appear, another staff member chatted with me while I was waiting and was very friendly. Check in was easy once staff arrived, and I appreciated that they checked my proof of vaccination. I was given sheets for my bed and a towel, and appreciated that access to most spaces required a key card. The common areas are well designed and seemed to be very clean. The stairs up to the bedrooms are a bit hefty - Be ready to climb. My room, a private bunk bed room, was spacious and had a desk where I could put my clothes. But, it was absolutely freezing and I couldn't find any way to turn down the AC. Also, the windows faced the alley, and there were people hanging out out front until very late, and the noise carried. While there were quiet hours posted in the hostel, and it did seem like most people respected them, they didn't really seem to be enforced. The bathroom was close to my room and was very clean. I think it could be fun to stay here outside of a pandemic (I imagine the multi bed rooms are pretty close quarters and I didn't see anyone wearing a mask), and if you have no early morning obligations. I wouldn't stay in the private bunk room again since it was pricey, but could see this being a fun place to stay with a group. Bring layers to wear in case you're cold. Overall a very average (3/5) experience.

As a newcomer to the Philadelphia area, this hostel truly is a gem in the rough! Staff and fellow guests are extremely kind and helpful. Dorms and common rooms are clean and well-kept. Pool table, TVs, computer and iPad add a nice touch, and free WiFi ( yesss! ). It's relatively quiet for being in the city and everyone is very nice/friendly. Happy travels, fellow Yelp reviewers!

A fantastic place to stay if you are visiting Philadelphia on a budget. Super clean and super friendly. The location is a amazing. A little bit difficult to find at first. Its right off a street with ample bars and restaurants. They had the main communal area with a full kitchen so you can definitely make your own meals. There is a grocery store right around the corner so you can buy everything you need there. The refrigerator gets a little pack but thats to be understood. Overall, it was amazing and highly recommended.

This place is great if you need an inexpensive place to stay the night(s) in historic Philadelphia. When I found out The Philadelphia House got shutdown I decided to try this place and it is fantastic. The service is excellent with clean bathrooms and showers. They have a kitchen area where you can cook for yourself and a pool table and lounge area. This is the best option if you want to be frugal in this city.

Wonderful experience for my first Hostel stay. If all Hostels were this nice I wouldn't have a problem staying in them. They have a fantastic kitchen where you can cook your meals. There are different events each night that allow you to mingle with others if you're traveling solo. I stayed here 3 nights and the 4 bunk room was fantastic. There are locks on your doors so you feel safe, as well as lockers large enough to fit your luggage. The room DID have AC so I would come back from a long day of walking around and just hang out and cool off. They have outlets and a charging station, along with a little shelf and a light in your bunk so you don't have to compete to charge your things. The comforter was very cozy and the bed was really comfortable!! It's in an extremely convenient location and almost everything is walking distance. Just a few blocks away from the Liberty Bell. I've seen people post reviews about it being in a "sketchy alley" but that's the furthest thing from what it was. Yes it's a small street but I was a female traveling by myself and I never once felt afraid walking back to the building by myself. I would absolutely come back here if I'm ever in Philly again. This place rocks!

Shared area where you can meet people

The owner, Marc is personable and professional. Mike, the cleaning crew member kept the kitchen and shared area clean. The receptionist Julia and Ro were insightful and informative m during my stay at Apple Hostels Philadelphia. Will be back,I enjoyed the experience!

For my first experience in a hostel, I don't think it was too bad. There are definitely things to consider if this is your first time, so let's just get right to it! To be honest, I booked with Apple Hostels for two reasons: 1. I didn't want to spend much money for one night in Philadelphia. 2. I've never stayed in a hostel and have been trying to experience different things, so it was a two birds with one stone situation. The room was $45 a night with taxes and everything. I did digging online and it seemed pretty legit- again, I had no idea what I was getting into. I found the hostel pretty easily even though it's in alley- remember this if you're a girl and traveling alone. I walked in and felt a comfortable environment which was really reminiscent of my college dorm experience, although the bright green didn't go with my college experience. The girl and I at the front chatted and gave me a rundown of everything. I booked the male dorm (not coed) because I assumed it would be quieter. More on that later... Here's some info on the hostel: 1. There is a kitchen in the bottom floor. Like complete kitchen for you to cook and store food in. 2. Complimentary breakfast daily and free tea and coffee all day. 3. They do ghost tours. I meant to ask if it was of the hostel because I would not be happy knowing I was staying someplace haunted. 4. Free x-box games to play. 5. You'll need to provide your own lock or purchase one for the locker- and you'll definitely want to use the locker to keep your things safe. 6. They have tons of events going on every night. 7. When you check in you'll be given the sheets for your bed, your towel, and receipt to attach to the bunk you'll claim for the duration of the stay. When you leave you have to return everything to the front- even the receipt. 8. I was impressed with the water pressure and the temperature of the water. The dorm room was very hot and had a lot more people/beds in it than I was expecting. The dorm had two fans that I saw and it was in the mid 80's. When I booked online some reason I was under the impression that there were only four people two a "Room", but there were at least 12 bunks in the dorm. Sleeping became an issue for me for two reasons. whoever/whatever was above the dorm, I would assume another dorm, was running, legit running across the room constantly. It was like they were playing tag while stomping. And the second was because the person (just my luck) who chose the top bunk got very drunk and decided not only to throw things off of his bed parts of the night and keep his light on that shined into my bed, he kept getting up and down (not quietly) multiple times. Where he went who knows, but I couldn't fall asleep until he finally passed out. The bed was more comfortable than I thought it would be, but either the mattress or the floor wasn't level/even because I felt in some ways like I was sleeping on a bed in a cruise ship. I thought the place was clean, but again, it had that college vibe to it so it wasn't immaculate. The staff was very friendly which is a huge plus. Overall, it was an okay experience. I see the allure to hostel traveling; you meet tons of people and never truly are alone. If you're looking for that and are on a budget than this is definitely something for you to try.

Three bite marks I woke up with on my hand.

The check-in process was easy, and I was able to buy toothpaste and water at the desk. They have a few toiletries and snacks available for ~$1 - very convenient. After payment and a quick introduction I was shown to my bunk bed in a mixed dorm room of eight. Everybody was sleeping, and I appreciated the bathrooms being outside the bedroom, so I didn't have to wake anyone. There were three sinks in an open area, and two bathrooms with shower that you can lock. Everything was basic, but clean. Got sheets and a towel, and had a decent night (there was a snorer in the room :).) The mattress was on the soft side, wish it was firmer. The hostel location is super convenient, and close to everything. I felt safe, and it's off the main road. You'll hear some traffic and pedestrians walking outside, but nothing crazy. When you check-out, all you have to do is strip the bed and leave. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Paid $70 for the night, which is a lot for a bunk bed, but it's still one of the cheapest options in town.

You need to bring your bathroom supplies (towel, deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc). Our Scout troop stayed here and we had both buildings, the Mansion and the cottage which is across a lawn/courtyard area. Their main kitchen/dining area is in the basement of the mansion which fit 70 scouts with a little room to spare. Since it was the first week in April and it was warm, 70 degrees, the AC was not on yet but they have several pedestal room fans which made it adequate. Each room had several bunk beds, lights, outlets etc. The mansion and the cottage each had a common room with a TV in it. They have free wifi but you get a strong signal on your cell phone without it. Overall we had a good experience and I definitely recommend it for large groups.

To be fair, there was a pending snow storm over the weekend, so reservations were few, and it's 17 degrees outside. The first observations weren't good. The bedspread appeared not to have been washed, the sink leaked water and, worst of all, the room was cold. REALLY COLD, maybe 55 degrees. (I don't carry a thermometer.) We did advise the front desk of the issues, and they did attend to the bedding, but were unable to increase the temperature. (Note: We did ask other guests about this. Some said their room was "fine" temperature-wise, and others said their room was "hot.") The breakfast offered to all guests is basic: bagels, English muffins, hard-boiled eggs, juice, tea, and fresh fruit. Their coffee was delicious and an attendant was on top of the breakfast bar at all times. We thought the front desk and custodian did their best, considering the challenges. Nevertheless, the rooms weren't up to past standards. We're disappointed with our recent visit and hope standards improve.

We were a party of 4 in two separate cars: one party paid for parking in advance as a 'ticket and parking' package. The other did not. We arrived about 11:30 am for a Sat matinee. Lot was rather full, but more, the spaces were very narrow, which seems to be the case more often. There are only two elevators, and they also are exceedingly small, holding 5-6 adults max-which is an issue when the shows end and everyone is queued up to leave. Our biggest issue was discovering that the prepaid parking expired at 4 pm. Since we were staying for a post ballet dinner, we asked and were told that we would simply need to pay for the 1 hour difference. If only it had been simple; but no. Besides the fact that the booth attendant had a friend inside chatting to the point that we needed to honk to get attended, the attendant had no idea what to do with a prepaid ticket holder who was attempting to leave past the allotted time. Their default was charge us $30 (the rate charged the car without the prepay), making it $30 for one hour. We declined to pay that as that was not the posted hourly rate...and had to sit for more than 15 min and only due to the exceedingly long trail of cars queued behind us did the attendant finally charge the posted hourly rate and allowed us to leave. Room: This is probably as swanky as Days Inn gets. When you walk in you see the space is mostly divided by a wall, bathroom and sink straight ahead, beds on the other side. This was helpful for us because I could get ready in the morning without the sink light potentially waking my kid up. We had a coffeemaker in the room so I was happy. Breakfast: I never partook, and there wasn't much, but all the same with the Reading Terminal Market steps away and a number of good coffeeshops in the vicinity I had no desire to partake of it no matter what they served. I've read others' reviews and have to mention: yes, you will see homeless people on the streets, not least because there is a shelter of sorts close by. On cold nights (and it was below freezing for essentially our entire stay) you will see them bundled up. My emotional response was one of heartbreak, not fear. I guess not everyone shares my feelings. Nobody spoke to us. For what it's worth the Days Inn door has keycard entry. If I return to Philadelphia I know exactly where I expect to stay.

I was skeptical about staying here due to other reviews but I was only staying one night and…read moreeverywhere else in the area the prices were high. Yes, it's semi in front of a homeless shelter, but they don't bother just mind your business and go in the hotel or to next location. I was a solo traveler and at no time felt unsafe. I would wait until Uber was close to wait outside. Front doors lock behind you and you need a key to get in building. The hotel was a bit outdated, but it was clean. My room was perfect for one night. I dislike that the sink was in the room not the bathroom but not going to be picky. The bathroom was clean, no problem with that. Bed was comfy, and the room smelled fine, not musky. Check in was easy. New front desk staff were training but everyone was nice. Complimentary breakfast is very basic. Muffins, bananas, bagel, coffee, juice. Walking distance to Reading Terminal market, trains, China town and Central City area.
