I usually drop my car off early in the morning (at about 6:30 am) before they open with a note of what I want to get done (there are early/late drop off envelopes provided and attached to the garage and the front door has a place to drop the envelope with car key) and he calls me later in the morning with an explanation of what repairs he suggests be done and provides me with the cost to do it. No BS! Joe doesn't try to sell you repairs that aren't necessary and I respect that. Joe uses quality parts. Later in the afternoon I settle up my bill over the phone (with my credit card) with his wife Peggy who supports him in the office. They leave my receipt and key in the console and lock my car. When I get off the train at Locust Valley it's a short walk to Joe's Garage to pick up my car ... all fixed and costing a lot less than at the car dealership that always try to sell you services that you may not need right away!

Earlier today, I was headed to Bayville for a birthday party. Not too familiar with the area as I…read morehad only been there once or twice before, I glanced down to check the directions for the next turn. Not two blocks from my destination I nail a curb - hard. Hard enough to give my poor tire a flap. Already late for the party, I figured I would just leave early so I could have this looked at. So, on the way home I pop in at 1:50pm - just under the wire as they close at 2pm. Jose was a great help. I had my son with me and the service was super quick. He jacked up my car to inspect it and to check for any nails/tacks etc and found none. He had even offered before he lifted my car to put on the spare if it was a flat. Fortunately, it was actually ok but he told me my tires were getting tire rot and I'd probably have to replace soon. He also told me to stay away from curbs, haha - advice I will certainly take. I appreciate the kindness and the service and the honesty I received here. If I lived local I would certainly come here for auto repair services. Thanks Jose!

I had a very disappointing and frankly shocking experience at Pine Hollow Auto Care…read more About a month ago I brought my diesel truck in for a basic oil change. I was surprised when the bill came to around $500, but since I'm new to New York and diesel services can be more expensive, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and paid it. When I left, the owner told me I could come back anytime for a quick New York State inspection since they had already "looked over the entire vehicle." So I returned this morning right when they opened at 8:00 AM for the inspection. Right away something felt off. The owner wasn't even sure whether his DMV inspection machine could handle a diesel vehicle, which made me question why I had been told to come back in the first place. He then checked my front window tint and showed me it measured around 23%. I understand that New York requires about 70% light transmission, and I explained that I had just purchased the truck in Colorado and recently moved here. He walked me out into the shop area and showed me the reading. I told him I didn't want to waste his time and that I could simply remove the tint. I started peeling it off the driver's side window and it came off easily in about a minute. When I moved to the passenger side and began removing that tint as well, the owner suddenly started screaming at me, accusing me of being "entitled" and yelling about how I had no right to do anything in his shop, despite the fact that he was the one who had just brought me into the shop area moments earlier. It was one of the most unnecessarily hostile and unprofessional interactions I've had since moving to New York. I was trying to save both of us time and make it possible for the inspection to proceed. For context, I'm not "entitled." I work extremely hard for everything I have, and my family and I are currently even living with my mother-in-law while getting established here. Being spoken to that way by a business owner was completely uncalled for. Between the extremely expensive oil change, the confusion about whether they could even inspect a diesel vehicle, and the aggressive way I was treated, I cannot recommend this shop. If you value respectful customer service and transparency, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

When he arrived, he suddenly claimed the job was "much bigger" than he thought and raised the price to $800, saying he originally believed it was only a 30‑minute job -- even though his quote already said 1.5-2 hours. He was polite and smooth about it, and said I didn't have to go through with the repair, but realistically, once someone has driven to your home, you feel stuck. I agreed, and the final repair was good. No issues with the workmanship. My issue is the honesty. The story changed multiple times, and the price jumped significantly despite him having photos beforehand. The work quality is solid, but the experience felt manipulative. Future customers should be aware of this.
