This theater has so much spirit, and is trying so hard to provide a great experience. To this I personally think they succeed, I've never had a bad experience here now that I'm thinking about it... They have at concession ice cream, popcorn, your standard candies, Coke self-service machines with every flavor you could want, and a bar. The prices are pretty reasonable too. The theaters themselves have comfy chairs with reclining features, and are so clean! The ushers were in with brooms at the last movie I saw before the credits were even over. read more

Just left the theatre. The movie we watched cut out multiple times. The theatre was absolutely freezing. Went into the restroom to find only 1 stall with toilet paper (out of the more than 10 stalls). Both hand dryers were out of order. And nothing was offered to dry hands. The ladies restrooms have been in a state of distress for multiple weeks. No toilet paper, hand dryers not working, soap dispensers not working. When I have told the staff working, I was told there is nothing they can do. They aren't able to refill toilet paper? That seems bizarre to me. Tonight when I complained again, I was told to take it up with the "owners" because they don't care. My family and I were avid visitors before Covid. Now, we go less because the service seems to have gone down hill completely. The staff does not care about the customers, they are more concerned with personal conversations with each other. As one of the few things to do in this small town, I think that Apple Cinemas deserves a little more credit based off of the improvements that they have made to this facility. First and foremost, the atmosphere is much nicer! The new owners did a wonderful job at repainting and carpeting the lobby, and the employees are much more attentive and kind. The updates to the facility besides the paint job (new reclining chairs, TV's with the upcoming releases as well as which theatre each movie is playing in, arcade games, new soda machines with thousands of options, and the option to get alcoholic beverages) have made it one of the more desirable locations in Winsted. The few things that make me not want to give 5 Stars and that could be improved upon is 1). the bathroom still needs MUCH improvement; it still smells a bit, the soap doesn't really dispense, and it doesn't seem to be maintained all that well. 2). the popcorn never really tastes fresh to me. 3) You guys have done an awesome job bringing this theater back from the dead; don't let the grimey patrons ruin that! I have noticed people getting a little too cozy in the seats... Overall, since the new owners, the majority of the place smells and looks 10X better! And with few attractions in Winsted, plus most of the things in this plaza closing, I think this location is a great place to go -- weeknight or weekend, with kids and adults! read more

My son and I were missing going to Apple Cinemas but they reopened about two weeks ago. The employees were having a few hiccups getting the register/ticket printer going, but they were able to get it straightened out. I think we were there on their first night back open. Took my kids to see the new Lion King movie today and I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the service. Previews and commercials went fine and as soon as the movie started it stopped. Dark theatre and dark screen for about 5 min. Movie came back beginning 20 min into movie then turned off. I went to complain and the nice worker said they were fixing the problem. Movie turned off and then started after 2nd or 3rd scene. Went out again to lobby with same response however manager did not fix the problem and we missed about the first 20 min of movie. Very disappointing when you pay for tickets. Always a good experience before this but I will likely try a different theatre next time. read more

Visited from out of town and brought a large group to see a movie. Their ticketing system double charged me. Spoke with a staffer after noticing it on my statements and they gave me an email address to send the information. One month and three emails later, I have yet to receive a response. Beware! This movie theater is so frustrating. In the beginning it was great, the new reclining chairs were a huge hit with me. But now I think people are getting a little too comfortable. The kid who sat next to me today had taken his shoes off and stunk up the whole theater. And to make it worse he was on his phone the whole time which was super distracting. This set up doesn't work anymore at this location. They're severely understaffed for weekends. When we got there at 1:30 there was already a line out the door. So as you can guess the line didn't move very fast. You have to get in one line to get your tickets and then a whole other line to get your snacks! Also we noticed people were walking in without buying a damn thing! They said they didn't want to wait in line....straight up told us they didn't buy a ticket but went on in anyway. Called about a birthday party for 4 and 5 years old ..some of them special needs . Manager was rude and disrespectful. I asked ,(if when you have a birthday party )you get a theater for just the kids party ( like it states on the website ) ..manager laughed and said yes if I want to pay over $500 . I asked what would happen if the children interrupt others viewing the movies and he stated there should be no reason for children to interrupt . I already told him some are special needs And a bunch of 4-5 year old children may not sit Quietly through a movie. He continued to argue with me and insult special needs children to the point I hung up . I don't recommend having a party for younger children at this location if you want to be treated with respect . Clearly they have prejudice against special needs children. read more

I'm very disappointed with the newly renovated Apple Cinema in Torrington. It is essentially the same dirty, crappy mini-multiplex it has been with previous owners. Most of the screens are tiny, and the new recliner seating isn't as comfortable as it looks. You can't sit fully upright in the chairs and they don't recline enough. The floor of the tiny theater I went to was incredibly sticky, so I wonder how long it will be before cockroaches and rats infest the place. When it changes hands again hope the next owner tears this horrible old building down and starts from scrap! read more

This unfortunately has been a post long in the making. I didn't want to rush to judgement so I waited on this post. Apple cinema has done an excellent job of reinventing itself as a more modern cinema. They installed reclining comfortable chairs that have make viewing a more enjoyable experience. The staff seems friendly as well. Then they seem to have gotten too cute. By attempting to separate them self from other cinemas they have chosen to serve extremely overpriced alcohol to patrons. I am not anti alcohol but sat next to a man that clearly had been enjoying himself too much already. While watching, A Quiet Place, an obviously silent movie, I got to bask in this man's each and every burp and gurgle. Very appealing as I attempted to eat my Twizzlers. This trap leads me into my final point that I probably should have started with but it's more of a finale anyway. Apple now has you choose your seats at the initial walk-in when you buy your tickets and snacks. This removes the most nostalgic part of going to a movie and finding the seat that fits you best. Instead I clicked two buttons on a screen to "reserve" those seats. But ALAS! When I got to those seats they were filled to the brim with two elderly gentleman. Gentleman who when I asked if those were their seats responded with, "We didn't even buy tickets, it was so busy in the lobby they didn't even notice us." Incredible. So I went back to the lobby and explained to the understaffed Saturday counter what the situation was and they responded, "Were sorry, if there's open seats that work for you please feel free." An idea drawn up by apologetic feelings which I understood, but could see the inevitable future. I returned to the theater which was now black, joined my girlfriend, and we grabbed seats that, "worked for us". Almost by design though, as soon as I got comfortable, another paying customer announced that I was in their seats. Shocking. To have three staff on a Saturday, to be unable to govern their new practices, and to leave customers literally in the dark scavenging for seats is sad and unacceptable. This place has potential, but just get back to basics. A movie theater's practices should be to buy a tickets and some overpriced popcorn and plant your butt in a seat. Easy. read more

This is the first theatre that I have been to since moving to the New England area. First off, make sure that you double check the location of your movie times. It is easy to mix up location and time like we did, and like the manager was telling us, multiple other people have been doing the same thing. The prices aren't that bad. I wish I checked Groupon prior to going, as they had a deal that we could have used. This theater serves beer and wine, which is very nice. The seats are pretty uncomfortable. read more

I was thrilled that they were playing a semi-art house movie, "Still Alice". But that's where the excitment ended. We went to the 5 p.m. show on a Tuesday ($4.75) and, as one would imagine, there were only 8 people in the theater. However, during the 10 minutes of commercials (yes, commercials NOT coming attractions) the sound was so loud it was impossible to talk. I ran out to ask them to turn the sound down a bit (I thought, better to do it before the movie started). Then, after 10 more minutes of coming attractions, the movie started and it was slightly out of focus. Again, I had to run back to the main lobby to ask them to check on it. The focus was corrected and we settled in. About an hour into the movie we suddenly started hearing a very loud conversation going on which was extremely disruptive to the experience (this wasn't Paddington or Fast and Furious 7--the movie is all dialogue and thus one needs to hear it). One woman jumped up to see if it might be two people right outside the theater door, but it wasn't. Then I realized it was coming from the projection booth! This went on for about 10 minutes until I finally--ONCE AGAIN--ran to the lobby to ask the kid behind the counter to tell them to be quiet. He looked embarassed and asked, "You can hear them?". Yes, indeed, we could hear them. Between the five minutes I missed of the movie from running to the lobby three times (in order to have them 'fix' things that shouldn't have been broken in the first place) to actually having to tell a projectionist that the booth isn't sound proof--the whole exeperience felt very amateur. I should have asked for our money back but I was honestly so fed up with the lobby we just exited straight into the parking lot. I have no plans to go back--it's just easier to wait for things to come out on Redbox! read more

The theater, available show times, and selection of movies are all good. However, the cleanliness of the bathrooms is just awful! The women's room always smells like bad sewage. More than once I have gotten caught in a stall with no toilet paper. According to the cleaning sheet log on the door, the last time the supplies were filled and bathroom checked was 8/22 and 9/18. Go there for the entertainment but make sure you take care of any "business" before you get there! read more
