I'm going to go ahead and start off with the disclaimer that I am going to cut and pasted this review that I am writing for all three of the places that are here together and relate them all on the overall experience. They are the Apple Barn Winery, Apple Barn Hard Cider Co., and Dessert Wine Shoppe. We stopped to do a wine tasting and saw they had a special where for $20 you got to do the tasting at all three locations and got a souvenir glass and shot glass. Decided it was a good value and went for it. We expected 3 or 4 wines at each and it was closer to 8 at each. Most of them were sweet wines, but very tasty. The overall value was exceptional. All three of our servers were very personable and fun to talk to. read more

Coming to the Apple Barn is such a fun experience, they have gift shops, 3 restaurants, a creamery, a winery and a cidery! The winery you get to sample 4 different wines of your choice for free. The best was the blueberry pomegranate wine slushie. So good! I enjoy the fruitier wines so if you do too you'll love it. Apple strawberry, apple with other flavors. It was all good. Make sure you get the FREE passport and get a stamp. If you go to three wineries on the trail you geta prize and you get a prize at the 5th stop. Two of the stops are on this site. We came back to Apple Barn Winery since we were in the area trying the restaurant and cider house. They allow you to try 4 wines for free, so here is what I tried: *Apple Strawberry - just okay, only a hint of strawberry *Apple Barn White - just okay. *Muscadine - this was my favorite before as it has a good muscadine flavor, and it is still a good one. *Apple Pomegranate - My husband tasted this one, and said it was really good. I was going to go in for a sip of his, mind you, the free tastings are tiny, so it's not like I was going to get a lot. I immediately got yelled at for no sharing - ironically other stops on the Rocky Top trail allow sharing. So, I ended up trying this one on my own, and it was my new favorite there. My husband also tried apple peach, apple blueberry and racoon red (blackberry, pomegranate, and watermelon), all three of which were okay to him, just did not have a whole lot of flavor. Overall, the wines here are just okay, there are definitely better wineries in the area. Service is definitely my main complaint. Here and at the cider house, they were just not good. Between the I could care less to be here and let me get you through this tasting and yelling at me attitude, we left without purchasing anything as it left a poor taste in my mouth. TLDR: FREE SAMPLES of sweet wines. Wine is reasonably priced. Two dry wines are available, the rest are sweet. Thank you Cindi for the wine and salsa tasting! Upon entering, we noticed a spot open at the tasting counter. As we took our spots, Cindi greeted us and told us about the tastings. They offer complimentary tastings of 4 wines. I picked Muscadine, Apple-Pomegranate, Apple-Strawberry, and Orchard White. The muscadine was our favorite so we bought a bottle. The wines are reasonably priced and they seem to have won a lot of awards. When we visited they offered 2 dry wines, 2 seasonal, 4 semi-sweet, and 4 sweet wines. The tasting was quick and enjoyable. Apple valley offers cider, ice cream, candy, pies, gifts, and souvenirs in other shops as well. They have ample parking available out front and walking paths to each store. Overall, we had a good experience here and recommend this winery to others! read more

Free sips include 4 of your choice wines. Sort of disorganized trying to find out how to get the samples. The bar was full but there was nobody or sign advising where to go or what to do. We walked around a bit then I saw a family leave so I scooted in. Got my free samples and chose a favorite obviously! I liked the apple cranberry which is also their top seller. They do have a wine club that you can join and has different tiers. Staff was friendly while getting the samples. They also have wine available by the glass that you can buy to enjoy or wine slushes. read more

We went for the rocky top free wine trail (which isn't really that free but still worth it and fun). We really really liked it. They didn't have much for dry wine options and it was mainly all sweet wine but it was still great and I wouldn't defiantly go back. We ended up doing to bundle for $20 where we got 12 wines and 2 wine slushies at apple barn winery, 13 ciders and 2 slushy at apple barn hard cider, and 5 wines at the dessert wine shoppe and we got a shot glass and wine glass with some of the tastings included too. Ate at the farmhouse restaurant. The service was descent, the appetizers great, but the food was the worst on our trip. The entire group didn't finish the meal and didn't feel the best the rest of the day... I'll leave it at that. We won't be back to eat here. read more

Such a fun place to check out for so many different little shops! We were able to do a wine tasting and a hard cider tasting! It's was super yummy wine and cider. I recommend the strawberry apple wine and my partner prefers the muscadine wine! As for the hard cider I loved the blueberry or original and my partner (surprise) loved the muscadine cider. They had a candy shop, sadly they only have chocolate covered strawberries in February, but they had so many other yummy things! We finished off by grabbing a cup of regular apple cider in the apple pie shop. We aren't sweets ppl, so we skipped the pie, but they had a lot of baked good options! Muffins, fried pies, regular pies, donuts and more! Seriously check this place out! read more

Honestly, better winery's around. There were only 1 or 2 wines I liked but did not love. And the lady who helped me with the tasting seemed to expect me to buy a wine when it says free wine tasting. My husband and I visited this winery today. He did the tasting, I did not. After he tried the last one, I asked if he liked any of them. He said let's look around and I will think about it. As we walked off, the woman who was doing the tasting glared at us then at the tip jar. I mean glared like you're not leaving a tip? We were not ready to leave the store so no we didn't leave her a tip YET. She was one of the most rude people I've ever met. She should not be in customer service bc that is her job. She is supposed to be pleasant to customers regardless of if they buy your wine or not. I regret not reporting her to a manage. We did leave a tip but I regret that also. An apple-solutely delectable time! When you first walk in, the winery has lots of cute, unique gifts perfect for souvenirs for any out-of-towner. The winery allows you to taste up to 4 wines for free. They had a great permanent selection and a few rotating, seasonal options. The Apple and pomegranate wine is delicious - I highly recommend! Even as someone who doesn't typically LOVE fruit wines, they were all very good. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. We were enjoying a lovely day in Pigeon Forge on a tour of 5 wineries and enjoyed each one except for Apple Barn. We were treated very rudely by an older employee serving our tastings. I also felt that he was being extra rude towards me as I am openly gay. This was our second stop on the little wine trail we went on last Saturday afternoon and it might have been the least enjoyable. Apple Valley has a restaurant, shops, and the winery, and you're greeted by a gift shop with the most miscellaneous choice of items upon entering. Maybe it was because they were more commercial and popular, or maybe because there was a bridal party there and they required constant attention, but we felt like the service wasn't very good here. We weren't really greeted, and we had to walk up to the tasting area and wait for someone to help us. Their wines were all mostly sweet, with a few dry wines that really weren't very dry. Most of them had the apple theme, so it didn't feel like much variety. They were "out" of their cab sav, which may have been the only one we'd have enjoyed. My wife and I have been occasionally ordering wine from the Apple Barn Winery for close to 9 years. While on a road trip in our rv summer of 2021, we had a chance to actually go there and what an amazing experience. We had lunch at the restaurant which had fantastic food and service then went next door and tasted/bought wine. After that we tried the hard cider store and fell in love with it as well. While waiting for brunch next store we had to venture over here. The shop is quaint and the wine tasting was great. They were extremely busy and there wasn't a lot of structure for it while tasting. It was almost as if we were all a herd of cattle getting in and out of there but the apple peach and the apple blush were our two favorites and we definitely took advantage of the 6 bottles to get 20% off. It ended up being close to $13 per bottle which I found to be quite the bargain for a local favorite. read more

Apple Barn used to be my must stop place. I never tried the others til recently when I realized how much their service sucked. Don't get me wrong, their wines are really good if you like sweeter wines! The apple is different, welcoming and yummy. But the staff are more concerned, it seems, with getting people out of their face. They're rude, snobbish and just don't care about you or your interest in buying their wine. We went in wanting to try their sweet and semi sweet wines, which has never been a problem there or at any of the others. He sighed heavily and said "we're too busy you can only try 6 so figure out which ones you want" Now I'll attest that yeah there were a few ppl in the store but most were looking at the knickknacks and what not, and affluent wine people have no problem waiting for a good experience. Although they could use more than 2 designated tasting stations if they're always so busy. He then proceeded to pour a dollop, if you can call it that without telling us what it was. I understand not giving big portions to not lose money, but we told him we were buying a 3 pack and the amount given could not even be called a sip. You couldn't taste a difference in them other than the first one or crackers. The thing is, is after visiting the others in the area, the staff has always been quick and kind of rude. Maybe it's because I'm in my mid 20's I must not look like a wine snob, but anyone who knows me knows I love my wine! This place has gone downhill in the past few years. I may or may not stop here again... or maybe just enough to get my wine tour stamp for the nice glass at the 3rd stop, but that's about it. The lack of service is just too non existent for my apple loving self to enjoy without a bitter taste in my mouth... and we all no bitter wine is just not worth it. read more

Some a bit sweet, all have a different flavor due to the usage of apples in the recipe, but then again - you are at the Apple Barn. The apple trees are in the front yard. This is one of the five vineyards in the Rocky Top Wine Trail. This is a very busy winery. It is in the middle of a group of stores and two restaurants. It has always been crowded when we've been no matter what time of day. Their servers are friendly and very knowledgeable. These wines are on the sweet side mostly. I enjoy how they incorporate the apples into the wine. They have new wines each season and bring back the favorites every year. We usually make this a third stop to taste wine so we can roam the shops and eat a meal. Definitely one of my favorite wineries. read more

Love the property where all the apple barn things are located. It's a cute area and while waiting for either of the restaurants you can walk around, shop, and sip on some wine. Sounds pretty perfect to me. There's even a little creek across the way. We were waiting for our table at so walked around and found the winery a few steps away. We went int i look around. Well, free samples. Sold! I believe it was three free samples of their wines and wine slushes. I prefer a sweeter wine than I do dry. There was a mix of dry, semi sweet, sweet, and wine slushes. I sampled some sweet and a the strawberry wine slush. Holy heaven. The wine alone was good, but in a slush it was amazing. I wish we could buy a cup or jug of it to go lol. It's just samples on the wine slushes. Somehow we walked out with three bottle of wine. The peach apple and strawberry apple. You even get discounts the more bottles you buy.
