After much local research I finally decided on Apparition (www.apparitionink.com) for my tattoo. The shop is owned by Jared, who is an amazing artist. His time is booked about 2-3 months in advance--he's that good. I decided to go with Clark, Jared's apprentice, for my concept. He graduated from art school and has the perfect attitude (IMHO). I met some of the other artists there, but I really clicked with Clark. He's crazy about hygiene and very open to what you want and who is best to handle it. There's very little ego at Apparition--they're just deadly serious about tattooing.
My upper left arm is now covered with the Yelp logo. HAHAHAHA--not. It's an image of a unicorn riding a dolphin while it taps a keg. It's complex, like me.
If you want a drunken flash-style tatt then there are plenty of joints on State St. to handle that decision. I can't imagine handing my skin over to someone I wouldn't want to have a beer with though. Apparition has a great non-scary space. You will not feel intimidated or turned-off by the place. Alchemy Coffee is next door if you need sustenance while you bleed out. read more
