This place deserves a million stars!
Seriously, I am in LOVE with Koi, and highly recommend it.
So, first of all, I am new to the SLC area, and had no idea where the best place to go was. I checked out a bunch of places, and thought this one would be fine because they have good reviews and were close by. I made an awesome choice by coming here.
I've had 18 ear piercings, so although I'm not an expert, I definitely know a good place when I see one, and let me tell you... This place is great.
Saturday (9/10/16) was my 18th birthday, so I went in at around 2:00pm. They don't take reservations or make appointments, so there was a bit of a line. I did mention I was on a time limit, and they were super accommodating and made sure to get me in quickly.
The front desk staff was amazing, sweet, and totally knew their stuff. The check in process was easy -- some simple paperwork and ID checking. They made the experience really easy for me, which was great.
The shop itself is quite big and very clean and comfortable.
My piercer was DJ, and he was amazing. I went in to get my nipples pierced, and he made sure that I was totally comfortable. He explained the process beforehand, and chatted with me about what he was going to do. During the prep and piercing itself, he took the time to explain every step to me in detail. The room was private, with closed blinds and a closed off door. He was patient with me and made sure I was totally prepared and comfortable. The shop itself was incredibly clean and obviously really well sterilized. He washed his hands in front of me, used different gloves for each side, and opened and used single use disposable needles. He also spent time talking to me about the area, and asked where I'm from, what school I am going to, and what I'm majoring in. He made sure I liked the jewelry and size, and had me confirm I liked the placement of the dots before piercing. Once they were finished, he sat with me to make sure I didn't get lightheaded. He then let me look in the mirror and make sure I liked the piercings and their placement. He was gentle, sweet, and very informative. He also obviously really cares about his customers and makes them feel comfortable and safe before, after, and during the process. Obviously nipple piercings are painful, since they're so sensitive, but he made the process easy, quick, and as painless as possible. He quite obviously loves his job and is very talented and passionate.
He gave me aftercare instructions and explained in great detail how to take care of my piercings. He also gave me answers to all of my questions and was very patient and knowledgeable. He said if I ever had any questions or issues, or wanted to change my jewelry, to call or stop by.
In total, the process was awesome. The price breakdown is below:
$25 piercing fee for one side
$10 fee for the other
($35 piercing fee total)
$35/barbell for each side (I chose the most basic silver colored one).
The total, including tax, came to $107. Since it was my birthday, I did get 10% though. I ended up spending around $130 (I tipped DJ because you should always tip your piercer, and he certainly deserved it).
This may seem high, but piercings are difficult to do, and are time consuming and expensive, so this is standard (and also what I was quoted at the other shops in the area I called). I had no issue paying this at all, as I am incredibly happy with the results.
I love my piercings, and with the simple instructions he gave me, I feel that they're healing well and pretty painlessly. They're absolutely straight and completely comfortable.
All in all, my experience was amazing, and I would recommend this place to anyone who asked. DJ is a fantastic piercer, and I highly recommend him, and the shop as a whole. Seriously, I will never go anywhere else ever again to get pierced. read more
