I looked up gift stores in the area and stumbled across this gem. When my girlfriend and I went there we were amazed by the amount of things in there. So much stuff to look at. There was everything in there like local crafts, dolls, Jim Shore figures, candles, and seasonal country gifts. This year I was back in Bridgeport and I had to make it a point to go back to Country Peddler. Everything was exactly how I remembered it. Awesome gifts, a great selection, and definately some of the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure of speaking to. I had a blast walking around buying all sorts of things. I got candles, a lamp, a watering can that looks like a ladybug, and a Jim Shore plant stake with a cardinal on it. The Thrifty Mountaineer is the place to visit in Morgantown if you're into cryptids, because there are so many cryptid items for sale! Plushies, t-shirts, books, keychains, patches and so much more available. Mothman is THE cryptid of the state, and there are lots of Mothman things here. We picked up some Mothman potato chips, because we were curious what Mothman chips would taste like. (Turns out, Mothman tastes a lot like barbecue Lay's.) The store is also an overstock and liquidation store, a notary public and a place to get financial coaching. I can't even make this up. This store is so cool and random, and there are surprises around every corner. The people who work here are hella chill. But you'd have to be if you own and operate a friggin' store dedicated to cryptids, right? If you sell soap that smells like the Flatwoods Monster, you can't take yourself too seriously. We were looking at the map and had read the website, but thought that we might just have to "transport" (walk) them across the street to the lake, but NO, there is NO lake access at the Outfitters. Luckily we had called that morning to verify and had enough cars to transport all of the kayaks we needed. They said that they aren't allowed to transport them since the state owns the lake. They provide straps and help you get them on your car and strapped on, but pay attention because you'll have to do it yourself when you bring them back. It was a bit challenging but we managed to do it without any of them flying off of our cars. Definitely get there early before your rental time so you can get everything loaded. We put in at Salmon Run and had a great time on Summersville Lake! The store itself has lots of different items you'd need for a day at the lake or camping. Waterproof bags, sandals, cold beverages, snacks, some gift items, local decor.

The adult kayaks had no ropes, tie-downs, or any way to secure personal belongings. These weren't just missing a few extras--the kayaks were extremely basic and bare. Without a way to secure your belongings, items can easily fall out of the kayak and be lost in the water. When we asked about ropes or tie-downs, we were told there was nothing available. We made do with what we had, but we shouldn't have had to. For a family renting four kayaks, we expected better. Based on today's experience, we would not use or recommend Lakeside Outfitters to our friends or family. There are other rental shops that can provide a better-equipped experience, so I would strongly recommend looking at those options before renting here.
