I could've spent hours here and had we not been waiting to be seated at a nearby restaurant, I just may have. They have a huge selection of records ranging from used to new and all kinds of genres. They are all over the back of the store - and while most of them are settled by genre and then alphabetically, there are some that are either not yet labeled, or just placed without intent that it would take an entire day to go through them in the hopes of coming across a treasure - and you will! read more

The owner, Mr Robert, knows exactly where every record is and the history of each record in his store. You can tell him who you are looking for or what kind of music you like and he will start pulling records out to suggest to you. He has records starting at $2 and ranging to super rare records in the $1,000 range. I will try to go to his store as often as I can. Update: as I come to know more about vinyl records, I find that his records are generally over priced. It is still a very good place to shop for records but most records you can find here you can usually find cheaper elsewhere. read more

The owner, Robert, is real nice and seems like he has a real passion and breadth of knowledge. The selection has something for everybody: many crates of decent dollar vinyl up to rare mint pressings in the hundreds of dollars. All genres and big names you expect in addition to a few crates of hip-hop EPs and singles. Looks like he's still in the middle of getting things organized so not everything outside of the $1 or $2 bins has a price attached to it (told me he doesn't believe in putting a sticker right on the bare cover). Just ask and he'll quote you. Feel free to negotiate. I left quite happy with a good stack under $30, and I'll be back when I'm in Thomasville again. read more

I take reviews I post very seriously so I felt I had to come in and update my review of Apollo Records. During my first visit over a year ago I felt that the prices were too high. After spending a year going to a ton of various antique places in multiple cities and seeing the standard of vinyl that is available, I must say that considering the quality of the vinyl, the manner it is made available (not just thrown in boxes) and the extraordinary assistance and knowledge that I got from the lady that was there when I visited... this is a must go to place in Thomasville. Are the prices higher then most other places.. no doubt. However, I would rather pay a little more for quality classic vinyl then pay a few dollars for junk that I get home and end up having to throw it away. So if you care about the quality of what you buy, then go to Apollo. If you just want to rummage through dirty boxes of vinyl others have basically thrown away and pay $2 for it, then yea you might want to go somewhere else. read more

This past weekend, we finally got to do some exploring in Thomasvile and stumbled upon this unassuming store[antique shop with a decent amount of records in the back]. While instinct is to rate it with three stars just for being a record store[keeping vinyl alive] AND having some cool/desirable records to boot, there is no way I can do so and maintain any amount of integrity. The majority of records in the inventory here are either 'Record Store Day' releases(maybe 20-25% of the stock), beat up thrift store finds[common and pathetic titles which comprise around 50% of the stock],bootleg LP's, and a few decent Punk, New Wave, and Garage/Psych records thrown in the mix[maybe 2-5% of the stock]. While that composition may sound like it's worth exploring, it only is if you are looking to get ripped off to the fullest extent [i.e. paying 10-20 times the highest going price for a record]. There are signs all over the store stating "No Cell Phones" - that's because they want to pull the wool over the customer's eyes[i.e. so the customer doesn't know that the prices are ridiculously inflated and/or know that a good amount of the records are bootlegs). Here are just a few examples: Smiths s/t LP on Rough Trade - sold ONCE in the past several years online for more than $40-$50 and those copies were sealed/in new condition, Apollo was asking $250 for a used copy! The Cure Pillbox Tales bootleg LP on Purple vinyl - readily available on Ebay for $17.99, Apollo is asking $60! Bruce Springsteen's 'All That Haven Will Allow' bootleg LP released in 2017 typically sells for $25-$35, Apollo is selling it for $150! Scaffold Live LP[mono[ typically sells for $5-$20 in excellent condition, Apollo had it for $100!! The list of unreasonable prices is really endless as it pervades every category/format/genre - bootlegs, 'Record Store Day' items, run-of-the-mill pop titles, and everything in between. I don't think most people mind paying the higher end of the going price, or even slightly above, in order to support local brick and morter vendors, but this place is so far gone with their prices that it should be criminal! It is quite unfortunate that they are trying to gauge those who do not know better. If one DOES venture into this place, it would be best to step outside to use your phone[as they ask you NOT to do in the store] in order to cross-reference prices with Ebay's 'completed listings'(NOT checking those that are currently active auctions and not selling) or use Discogs. It would be more advisable not even walk in/waste your time or money. read more

Unbelievable. If you are a record hound of any stripe, but especially one with tastes leaning towards musician's music of the 60's, 70's and 80's, then this is the place you were hoping every record shop you visited out of town would be, but never found. Tom Waits mispresses, thrash imports, P.I.L. first issues, space-rock 12"s, blues and free-jazz records, the largest collection of King Crimson and Pink Floyd rarities I have ever seen, limited edition new heavyweight death metal albums - an exciting, eclectic selection all around, plus old school t-shirts, original art, posters, antiques - nameless wildness. I've hounded record shops from Toronto to New Orleans for decades, and have never felt so at home. The owner will throw any LP on the stereo for you at the drop of a hat, and the punters in the street will get to enjoy it too. If you're in the tri-state area, I recommend the trip. This is taste, dedication, and expertise at play. read more
