I wanted to change my nose ring from sterling silver to rose gold. Kay at the front was super helpful and very friendly. I had to wait for an appointment to finish before the piercer, Kevin, could change my ring for me. Kay offered me water and showed me where the bathroom was. Kevin was patient and very gentle. I decided after he put in the new nose ring and looked in the mirror, that I would prefer a slightly larger gauge. He didn't mind changing it out for me! So nice and understanding, if you buy any jewelry from Apogee it is totally worth the small fee they charge to put it in (or change it out in my case). I had a great experience here and am very excited to come back for my piercing follow-up! After being able to park directly in front of the shop (parking is limited, but close by) I walked in and was greeted by Front of House, Kay. She was so positive and helpful when I mentioned that it was my first time at Apogee. She also was very knowledgeable of their jewelry selection when I asked about possibly getting a new piece for my daith. I was super surprised at their selection, as I feel like other studios push their gold selection first but Kay told me about all the options-- gold, titanium, glass, niobium. I LOVE that they carry Tether Jewelry (and their chains)! They also sell hangers/weights and fashion jewelry if you're into that. The shop is decorated quite nicely, and everything looks to be wheelchair accessible which is great :) They also seem to take walk-ins, so if you're more of a spontaneous person this is the place. They of course also do appointments, which you book online on their website. When I met my piercer, Nicholas, he was able to (and excited!) to make my dream piercing come to life-- a vertical industrial. He was super meticulous about marking and seeing where he would be able to place it while keeping my conch, which I appreciate. I could tell that he really wanted to make sure my industrial viable/ healable, and also that he loves his job! This made the appointment less stressful / anxiety-provoking. The piercing itself was great and quick! I have a really high pain tolerance in general, but Nicholas did a great job, and it genuinely didn't hurt anywhere near what I thought it would be. And, although I've healed a ton of piercings, he also informed me of saline soaks and how that might help with healing. At the end of my appointment, I got cards with information on aftercare (including how to make/do the saline soak) which was nice. They also had a piercing loyalty card so that's cool, I don't think any other studio in San Diego (at least a good piercing studio) does. And my total came out to $95 before tip which is incredibly cheap I feel for my jewelry and experience?!! So I totally recommend y'all to come here. It was great!! read more

If you are closing early then close the front door and don't have an attitude with someone that came to support your business during the posted hours. I didn't make your hours or force you to have that job so save your shitty attitude for something else. Most places that close at a certain time close the drawer at the hour they close, not before. So FYI people, if you want any crap from that store go well before they close or just save yourself a bad experience and go support a more friendly establishment in OB. Drunk? Everything was perfect. I wish I remembered his name but there was a man (has a jewel on his tooth) that was so sweet. He helped me pick my jewelry and was super patient with me! Mark did an amazing job with my piercings (2nd lobe, helix, and stretched my rook because I didn't have anything in it for a while). I felt absolutely no pain so that was great. Disappointed by apogee. I stopped by and got my third lobe piercings about a month ago and opted for their titanium cz stud for my initial jewelry. The jewelry itself probably cost me $100 for the pair and they were extremely poorly made. The front prongs holding the CZ in were cheap and not pushed down, so they kept getting caught in my hair, snagging, and irritating the piercing. In addition, the size mm of the bar of was too short and kept the flat backs pressed too closely against my lobe, which exacerbated the issue (since my hair kept snagging the earring front, and then pulling on my lobe, which was being held too tightly to begin with-thus irritating the piercing further.) The piercing experience itself was fine, but I think that my piercer should have know to give me longer mm posts, and that apogee should not sell such low quality pieces (esp for the absurd $ amount). I literally went to STUDS at UTC and they had to cut out the cheaply made earrings which was PAINFUL and I literally just threw them away. I can't believe that I had a light years way better experience at STUDS compared to apogee, it is insane and totally would think the opposite since it is a mall jewelry place. read more

Condescending af. What I wanted was simple: help me taper a 14g barbell into a tongue piercing I've had since 1994. It's been out for a few years so the hole has narrowed, but not closed. When they told me they would not use my existing jewelry because it was externally threaded, I accepted that. For some reason the man I was talking too didn't even suggest that I might purchase new jewelry, so another guy chimed in to quote me a price with new jewelry. I found the price acceptable. But then the first guy told me they don't use anything smaller than 12g for tongues. I said well it's not a new piercing, I just want what I had which worked for me for 30 years. I was told "well procedures and standards have changed" Here's why that's bull: I was then told that at home I could try a warm compress and a ton of lube to push it in. So "standards have changed" but "go home and jam the jewelry (that we said is bad) in yourself" is your suggestion? A little contradictory don't you think? I don't know why these two men, who were probably not yet out of diapers the year I got this piercing, want to be such condescending gatekeepers but, as an old friend used to say "I was a punk before you were a punk" so get over yourselves; you're not unique or special. read more

I booked an appoinment for tragus and helix. He messed up my tragus so I took the piercing off and let it healed . I turned 30. Bleh. Many people look forward to this milestone birthday. I was not one of those people. Quite frankly, I wanted to rebel against it. What better way then a piercing?! I love piercings. I already had 6 and had been thinking about a 7th for quite a while. Years, actually. After some deliberation on the exact one, I finally decided on the rook. I think it's so cute and can easily be hidden under my hair for more "professional" meeting days at work. I have quite sensitive skin and have always had issues with certain jewelry and piercings. The one piercing I never had any problem with though, was my belly button, which was done at Apogee in 2009. So of course, I wanted to get my rook done here too. The shop was just as I remembered it and Evan was so inviting. I'd be lying if I said that tattoo/piercing shops tend to be a little outside of my comfort zone, so I greatly appreciate the comfortable vibe that the Apogee staff gives off. After filling out the necessary paperwork, Evan got a room ready, and I was in there within 10 minutes. He was very particular with marking where the earring should go, he seemed to really take pride in doing a good job. He was very thorough in explaining to me how the process of piercing this part of the ear works and he was so smooth when doing it, that I only felt a slight pinch. It wasn't really sore until I was outside, and the breeze was hitting my ear, but really only hurt for a day or two following. He was even kind enough to get my second piercings on each lobe out as the earring backs had been rusted on the earring and I wasn't able to get them off myself. To add, he also stated, and restated (multiple times), the importance of cleaning a new piercing in order to keep any infection from forming. I just really appreciated how detailed he was. Two great experiences here and if I ever get another piercing (though I think my mother would disown me), I'll definitely be coming to Apogee. read more

Since I went out of the room and back to look, they charged me 3 different times instead of once if I had picked it out first. They didn't tell me this and were super rude about all! I just had such a positive experience here and wanted to express my gratitude! I had my nose pierced at Apogee 10+ years ago and have been in a few times since for new jewelry, but I previously felt unwelcome in the shop. I remember one time I asked my partner for his opinion on one of the nose rings and was scolded by an employee for asking someone else's opinion since I would be the one wearing it. I felt like the environment was a bit cold and unfriendly previously. I just lost the top piece of my semipermanent nose stud and was desperate for a replacement before my piercing closed. I popped into their shop today (November 6) under and hour before closing and had such warm and friendly assistance! I should have asked the names of those who helped me. The individual at the counter was so kind in giving me honest advice about selecting a new piece of jewelry and the person who helped place the jewelry did a great job. I wanted to right this review because my previous visit a couple years ago was not great at all, staff was super cold and unwelcoming. I had brought my newborn in for an ear piercing and they really were not friendly at all however they did do a decent job with the actual piercing. I get not everyone is super stoked at piercing a newborn because it is difficult but they still should keep in mind customer service. It's hard enough as a mom watching your baby get pierced, that doing so in a cold and unwelcoming environment makes it 10x worse. With all that being said I was SUPER hesitant to come back to this spot for my second child's newborn piecing. However I am SO glad I did! My experience was exact opposite of before. Front staff was a doll! Super sweet and informative. Our piercer Nicholas was so great. Newborns are tough and He was SUPER patient, friendly and did an amazing job with the piercing.
