Crew was professional all the way, John, our pilot, has been flying since he was a teenager and his passion for the craft is evident. While we were flying, we noticed another dozen balloons go up, but they all went to the desert area: not us, we went over the city and did some great elevation changes to get different perspectives. Having never flown in a Hot Air balloon, I researched on Google and found Apex and Chief Pilot Jon. With his credentials in order we reserved a date for a ride, my wife's birthday. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Jon and crew. Jon explained the process of inflating this mammoth balloon, which was very interesting to watch. My daughter had been asking to go on a balloon ride for more than a year and I finally booked one. We were fortunate enough to go on a ride during the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (outside the main grounds) with Jon and crew (Gary, Keith, Lee, & Lindsay). We were on the "second hop" which meant that we got to be a part of the chase crew while the "first hop" took their ride. I believe the first hop has a higher chance of successfully flying, but luckily we made it up and were in the air for longer than expected! The experience and views were spectacular; we were able to see many other balloons up in the air with us & even spectators on the ground. I was a bit nervous to go up at first (literally flying in a wicker basket with ~15 other people with a balloon filled with hot air) but Jon made the experience seamless. Everyone was extremely friendly, informative, and Jon's passion for ballooning was evident. We celebrated our successful flight with "The Balloonists Prayer" and plenty of champagne at the end. It wasn't cheap (although priced well relative to competitors), but definitely something I will never forget & worth every penny. A dream come true! Great experience. Since this was my first experience with ballooning, I don't have much by way of comparison but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My mother and I were in Phoenix for a long weekend and a balloon ride was on her bucket list. Spoke to Chad on the phone to make the reservation and he was easy to work with. There were six total passengers on our flight plus the pilot and we had plenty of room - not cramped at all. We were up in the air for about 75 minutes and had a smooth landing. We almost picked the Groupon group based off of price and I'm SO glad we did not. Jon not only is super knowledgeable about basically everything, but he also is an excellent pilot. Take off and landing were both super smooth and the views are TO DIE for. The champagne toast afterwards is really sweet. I think we were in the air for about an hour which seemed longer than other groups, so you definitely get your money's worth. You also end up going higher and it seemed farther than other groups. The Groupon group barely took off and stayed at a very low elevation and I don't even think crossed the bridge area at all like we did. This was a birthday gift 1 year in the making! After many other failed flight attempts (thanks Mother Nature) we were finally able to take off on 8/15. We did the sunrise flight and the weather conditions were fantastic. Our Captain, Chad, was nothing short of fun and entertaining and even provided us with selfie sticks! My husband and I had a great experience with apex! John made us feel so taken care of. Even though we were supposed to call the night before at 8-9 o confirm, he called us at 8:06 to do so.
