18/12/2011 I must give love to BankSA Here are three…read morereasons: 1. Before when I was young and naïve about bank accounts, they taught me how wise it is to open up a savings account when I got my first job in high school. That lesson has helped me so much since then, and have ultimate self-control of my personal spending behaviour. They are available 24/7, and one night over the phone, the BankSA employee sneakily taught me that putting more money in your savings account makes you money through interest over time, more than just leaving everything in your credit (spending) account. (Yup. I plan to retire as a millionaire through my savings plans...don't know if it's working so far?) 2. How easy it is to transfer money electronically between your accounts, and now, it's even easier to do it on your mobile phone! 3. How they protected me from a big scam deal that ripped me off several hundreds of dollars over the phone. They have your back, if anything goes wrong, or there has been an incorrect or suspicious transaction in any of your accounts. Yes...you have to make an effort to walk to or drive to an ATM if you need cold hard cash in your hands, which isn't possible over the phone or in front of your comptuer...but I love how the lines are never too long whenever you walk in. But the friendly bankers here are quick - and at 25-years old with no CLUE how to effectively handle money, they are willing to talk to you and provide advice as to what I should to next to solve the problem. For example, I was bankrupt and had trouble paying bills. I already knew the solution, but the fact that they gently encouraged me without being rude at all, hit a home runner for me = "go get a new job, then come back and we talk more!" They even have their own superannuation fund, which is a convenient option for people who enjoy doing their transactions on the internet. How nice.

People working at banks are expectedly friendly. It comes with their jobs, and it seems apparent by…read moresome employees that they've simply rehearsed customer service guidelines over and over to come across as friendly, whether that be genuine or not. After all, they're being trusted with your money, and they can't exactly be assholes about that. But the thing I like about the Norwood Commonwealth Bank branch is that the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and not just because they felt it was their job to behave in that way. My debit card had seen better days and was starting to crack and split, so I needed to visit the bank to get a replacement. As soon as I walked in, the manager greeted me with pleasantries and asked how he could assist me. I told him that I was in need of a new card, and he ordered me a new one straight away and told me it would arrive at my house. Not only that, but he also sorted out some unnecessary fees I was incurring in my account. The thing that I really appreciated about the service I received was that during my time in the branch, he made me feel like I was a genuinely important customer (although one look at my account statement may have changed his mind). He was polite and smiling throughout the conversation, and made me feel like my money was in safe hands.

I work in hospitality, I understand all about customer service and the difficulty of remaining professional while dealing with annoying people. So I understand when people who work at banks perhaps lack that spark. They deal with people day in day out, and while it's part of their job, it does get tiring. However, these people must be on Redbull or something because they're always happy, always cheerful, always greeting people personally and always helping to the best of their ability. Outstanding service.
