The staff seems friendly and, my few interactions with them, helpful. That said, if you're looking for a bodybuilding/powerlifting gym, this may not be the place for you. The heaviest dumbbells are only 75's. and there aren't a lot of benches. No real decline press to speak of. But there are some decent alternative pieces of equipment you don't see in many places. Hand bikes. Belt squat, and the dedicated deadlift area. All in all, for what it is, it's decent. If you need something more specialized for your trained, and heavier weight, go elsewhere. But for the vast majority of people, this is a good, well equipped gym.

I came to Club Pilates for a workout, not to be publicly humiliated for being an immigrant…read more Our instructor, Lynn H, spent the class repeatedly making jokes about my accent, including asking whether I came to this country through 90 Day Fiancé and questioning what I was even doing in Ann Arbor. As if that wasn't insulting enough, she started directing comments to my partner, apparently assuming that because I have an accent, I couldn't understand English. Let me make something very clear: I am a proud Michigan NURSE, an immigrant, and a contributing member of this community. My accent is not a punchline, and my background is not your entertainment. How come the huge sign on the door says WE LOVE MICHIGAN NURSES AND BULLY THEM AT THE SAME TIME? Ann Arbor is known for celebrating diversity, inclusion, and welcoming immigrants. How embarrassing that an instructor working in this community would make a paying customer feel so unwelcome. And another thing: PLEASE ASK FOR CONSENT BEFORE TOUCHING PEOPLE'S BODIES. Being a Pilates instructor does not automatically give you permission to put your hands on someone without asking. I expected professionalism, encouragement, and respect. Instead, I experienced behavior that felt, ignorant, and deeply inappropriate. The only thing that needed correcting in that Pilates class was the instructor's behavior. Club Pilates management, I genuinely hope you take this seriously. No one should have to defend their accent, their immigration status, or their right to belong while paying for a fitness class. My accent tells a story of hard work, and resilience. What does mocking it say about your professionalism?

However those who are weighing it against other options or are thinking of buying without seeing may find this helpful. I give it a mediocre review because the layout is not conducive to any sort of workout plan that involves working similar muscles at one time. The equipment is very limited, always crowded, limited hours and cardio machines change frequently so you can't benchmark your performance at a given exercise, The good points are obviously convenience, price, some classes and always working equipment. I personally choose the other U of M gyms where the hours are better and there is a better variety of equipment available to ensure a good workout in a decent amount of time. There is also something to be said for making your painful deadlift face in front of strangers as opposed to classmates.

Employees are very nice and courteous. The hours are somewhat inconvenient because it usually…read morecloses earlier than your other gyms. Also, there isn't as much equipment as one would expect; only two bench presses, and no area for deadlifts, etc. The great thing is that the place is very clean and convenient; being a student at Ross, its pretty convenient to stop by after class instead of going to the CCRB.

Upon arrival the staff was really nice and friendly. The young lady at the desk offered me hand wraps and asked which color I would like. Picked the color I wanted and got ready for the class. The class was a good class, because I was able to burn a lot of calories. At the end of class the instructor asked my friend and I to stop at the front desk to ask us about our experience. After we gathered our things, we stopped by the front desk, and had it in our mind to sign up for more classes. As we got to the front desk the instructor said your hand wraps are $10. I didn't appreciate being told the wraps were a fee after class was over. I should have been told that when they were offered to me. The $10 fee is not the problem, the problem is not being told about it until the end of class . I felt the was being deceitful. When I addressed it with the instructor, I felt like my concern was being brushed off. I went home thought if I wanted to still sign up for classes, I were going to after my friend and I discussed it. I changed my mind after receiving a call from the gym. They asked how was class, I said it was good. But I address my concern again in reference to the wraps, and I felt like it was being brushed off again. I work in customer service and I know how customers should be treated. All they had to do was address my concern head on and let the staff know that they should make sure that they let customers know if they have to pay a fee for items or not, and it shouldn't be told after you give someone something. My mind is made up know I will not be attending anymore.

The equipment is practically brand new (not sure when they opened). The bathroom is quite small, but since you are usually in there alone, it's not a big deal. There's a shower there, and a few lockers (lock not necessary). It's one of the best gyms I have ever used, and I've been to many. There are a few things that would be nice if they had, but for $12/week, I'm beyond happy. Love this place, love the people, and love the facility. Love. But what it has in comparison to the other two buildings does not make up for what it lacks. Just like the NCRB, there's AC all over the building! What I like about the IM building better than the NCRB is that the equipment isn't so close together, so it feels more spacious. The views from the windows are also more scenic than looking out of the NCRB. However, I think the IM building has less equipment than the other two recreation buildings. A previous reviewer described the gym as "state of the art." I think this is accurate. I was amazed when I first walked in soon after the renovation. It's bright and clean, and all of the equipment are updated. I like the open floor plan of the main weight room, and I usually don't have to wait long for a bench or machine. There are plenty of benches in the free weight area and sufficient mirror space. The eight squat racks and three deadlift areas are beautiful. I use the room across from the racquetball courts pretty often, and it's usually well-kept. It offers everything from kettle balls to boxes to TRX cables. I also use the two cardio rooms sometimes. The one on the second floor has some lighter weights and machines as well as treadmills and ellipticals, and the one on the third floor has rowing machines, treadmills, and Stairmasters. A unique area of the building is the lounge between where you enter and the weight room. There are TVs, foosball tables, and even a desk attached to a treadmill. The only thing I'd change about this gym is the availability of lockers. There are only about six tall lockers, and usually they're all taken during busy times. Other than that, I love working out here! I choose this spot over the CCRB always.
