This wasn't our first rodeo buying or selling property. From our past experience, real estate…read moreagents from the most reputable companies are usually in it for the money, to quickly buy or sell your property for you. The politeness will be there initially, but as time wanes, their patience tires and they just want their commission and to move on. This time around, we opted to go with Redfin's business model of salaried employees and work with Peggy Papazaharias. From the very beginning, we couldn't have appreciated a better agent. Throughout our 1+ year of looking for a property in multiple towns 10+ miles apart, Peggy was sweet, polite and attentive. On tours of homes, she would actually help point out things in the home to watch out for and houses to downright just avoid. Most agents would try to spin things for the positive, to try and get you to buy the property. She never once lost her patience. If she was not available to tour a house with us, she would ask one of her colleagues to attend with us. We actually felt like we built a personal relationship with Peggy who we are more than willing to work with again. She made the whole process a lot smoother and pleasant. Even after we had gone in contract, she had consistently dropped us emails or text messages to see how things were going. I've seen one too many times where other agents start to lose interest once the contract was signed. If somebody wasn't responding, whether it be the seller, buyer's attorney, seller's attorney, mortgage broker, or title company; she'd try and reach out for us. We had a good idea of potential real estate brokers and title companies we wanted to work with. Rest assured, I did my homework, creating spreadsheets and spreadsheets of all the good faith estimate fees the banks/mortgage brokers and title companies charged. But once she gave us her recommendations, we wholeheartedly trusted her advice and opted to work with those companies. Long story short, if you want to skip all the legwork and research, take Peggy's recommendations. We wound up saving a very considerable amount from closing fees. Her guidance and advice throughout the process was invaluable and nothing but positive experiences. If you're looking to buy a property around Long Island, New York and are considering breaking away from working with a traditional real estate agent, I'd recommend working with Peggy from Redfin. And don't forget Redfin also refunds a portion of the commission to you that they make. That's just icing on the cake!! Peggy, many thank you's for everything that you did for us. We love you and will pass on the good word to all our friends and family looking to buy/sell property.

We get to select the houses that we want to see from their website and caitlin would schedule them for us. She would tell us what to lookout for in a house since we were first time homebuyers. And when it came to giving an offer she would tell us whether the price was fair and what she thinks of the sellers. She also gave us a list of inspectors and mortgage brokers to use. They were great too!! We didn't have to scramble to look for them ourselves. Caitlin was also very responsive whenever we called or emailed her. The BEST PART about going with Redfin was that we also get some money back after we close the house! Now why would anyone not go with them???

The visit was presented under the auspices of a grief group she was running with her husband, but given the circumstances and the timing, I found the unexpected visit very difficult and upsetting. Whatever the intention may have been, I felt the timing and circumstances were insensitive. I hope Mara Realty will be more mindful of families who may be experiencing a recent and devastating loss and exercise greater sensitivity in approaching them.

Raffaele was extremely helpful in showings us all the different houses we looked at. We probably ended up seeing nearly 70 houses, but he was extremely patient and never tried to push us towards anything. He was fairly knowledgeable about the inner workings of houses and was able to spot a few problem areas in different houses. He was available pretty much any time we needed him and was generally successful in scheduling all the appointments we requested. Michael helped us with the negotiations, getting an inspection, and some of the other critical stuff once we found the house we wanted to buy. Redfin's website is really great for searching for houses and setting up a search criteria to email you updates daily. It's organized nicely and is very user-friendly. If I see someone professional, pro-active, thorough, courteous and intelligent, I hold on pretty tight as it's not very often people like that come around. Such is the case with William Ortiz from Redfin. All these traits that place him in the highest ranking order of real estate brokers exemplify one simple and stellar characteristic: He Loves His Job. He has this instinct when it comes to what people want, what people THINK they want and what really works for them. He knows how to delicately yet firmly, guide you in the right direction. You feel safe with William. There's a sincerity in his actions. He understands that this is one of the most important and overwhelming decisions of your (and your family's) life. Also, he's patient. Patient to a degree that requires praise. As potential buyers, were all over the map and very indecisive, for a LONG time. We kept shifting our requirements and got to a point where we felt frustrated and had lost sight of the end game. Before I even realized where we were emotionally, William sensed our exasperation and (unprompted) called us and spent tons of time discussing our expectations and helping us clarify our needs. I could spend hours reviewing William's impeccable handling of every situation in our home search and purchase but it would likely end up the length of a short story! Therefore, to keep this short and sweet (well, sort of), I don't think we will every use another real estate broker every again. GO TEAM WILLIAM!
