His staff were excellent, professional, and knew how to put everything in writing, in such a way, that the insurance company could not deny the operation. A lady named Tiffany handled all that and always referred to me as 'sir,' which is a great customer service experience.
I was terrified the day of surgery, up until the moment Dr. Coirin met with me. This was about 10 minutes before the anesthesiologist put me out; subsequently, Coirin began hacking me to bits. His demeanor was calm, quiet and congenial. He gave me a brief synopsis of what was to happen; his own calm demeanor and confidence, put my mind at ease from that moment on. He's done it literally hundreds of times. Possibly thousands of times. He has probably performed bariatric surgery approximately the same amount of times, as I have lifted a fork to my mouth in my entire lifetime. The man is a professional.
Enter The Anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist asked me if I had any questions or comments before we began, and I told him "Mother Superior, Jump The Gun." I thought those would be cool last words if I didn't make it out alive.
I knew it was the real deal when they rolled me onto the operating table and blinded me with white lights.
Then, an unspecified period of time passed and I woke up in an unfamiliar place as if no time had passed at all. I asked the nurse for a drink and I was given a squirt of a citrus-tasting beverage. Later, I was taken to my room. The surgery had gone well, I had five tiny incisions from the laproscopic procedure. Most incisions were held shut with only two staples.
Dr. Corin met with me the next two days in hospital; he was very calm and professional with me. He didn't spend much time with me, it was all business. He entered and gave me a pep talk while I was rushing on the hospital-induced post-operative opiate coma. I barely remember what he said, he just kind of smiled and said, in his French accent "remember, it's just a tool." He left.
Thanks for giving me a new shot at life, Dr. Coirin. I've lost 8 pounds at 4 days post op thus far.
EDIT: As of May 28, 16 days post-op, I have gone from about 292 pounds to 263 pounds. The initial weight loss felt crazy; I would have horrible breath, and I later learned this was quite literally my own fat being chemically broken down and expelled through my exhalations.
Dr Coirin's staff have been great to me so far, they even stayed late to help me fill a prescription refill. This was after my several persistent calls while Coirin was in surgery. They have never given me any attitude, it's been all professionalism. read more
