So, I had vertigo the other day and had to leave work early. it's no fun when the room is moving and you're not. :( Before I left, I researched on Yelp where to go near Central to get a massage. Antonina Bodywork was in one of the results. I decided to give her a call to see if she could fit me in. To my surprise, she had an opening the next day during lunch. I told her what the issue was and she went to work. I've never had a massage like this in my life. It was a bit strange though, since vertigo is caused by an inner ear something or other; she worked on massaging my face and neck muscles. Odd, but it worked! I left the appointment feeling absolutely amazing. My vertigo went away almost immediately and here I am the next day still feeling fabulous. I will HAVE to go back again. Antonina is a brilliant massage therapist: I was explaining to a friend that her hands are like x-rays--she understands structure and connection and it means that she has helped me massively with what seemed like they would be intractable problems. She has a good sense of humor, is easy to work with, and kind but not sappy. Her knowledge of anatomy is astonishing, it seems like it is intuitive, but it must involve tremendous amount of study and practice to make the connections--how the foot affect the shoulder, that kind of thing--that lead to healing. I lived in Cambridge for the year, and Antonina was one of the best things about living there! She helped me with chronic back and neck pain, and pelvic issues related to childbirth. She really understands anatomy and how different parts of the body influence others. She was strong and skilled and explained everything she was doing. I might write two reviews so I can give 10 stars! My most recent massage was a couple of weeks ago when I was in severe pain (bad shoulder, holding my baby ALL the time, etc.) Nothing I was doing at home was working. I went to see Antonina and by the end of the massage started to feel better and two days after that, it was like nothing at all had ever been wrong. She really takes the time to evaluate my situation pretty thoroughly before doing any work and gives me follow up advice. I've been to her for what I call "relaxing" massages which are just that; I feel like a new and better person after. And I've been to her for therapeutic bodywork...not very relaxing at all, in fact, sometimes quite painful. But Antonina is really communicative and caring and her work so effective, I actually drive an hour into the city to see her. I wouldn't go to anyone else. read more

A friend recommended Antonina to me and when I found myself in Cambridge I went to see her. She is truly amazing. She has a deep understanding of physiology, finding connections in the body that I never sensed (i think the pain is in my hip, and she finds a spot down the leg that gives instant relief). This is not the head-to-toe relaxing massage (though maybe she does that if you ask), but going as deep as you want ("You're the boss!" she reminds) to really alleviate structural imbalances. She also shows tips on exercises you can do at home to continue the therapy. She's also easy to contact via text or email to schedule appts. Antonina is fantastic! I had issues with my legs, which prevented me from dancing properly. After visiting Antonina's, she showed me that there were other issues as well and spent time discussing how the pain in my legs were caused by issues in the hips and back. She worked my whole body, focusing on my problem spots. I had never experienced such a specialized deep tissue massage like that before. She really knows her anatomy and gets to the deepest spots. Antonina spent time with me after to go over stretches and exercises that would help readjust the muscles in my body for better preventative care. Antonina is an amazing masseuse, and I highly recommend her. She is very knowledgeable about anatomy and how the musculature/connective tissues are interlinked. I visited her for some muscle tightness/tendinitis issues from long distance running. She was extremely thorough in analyzing my stance, posture and body positioning, and then working on the root cause of tightness and imbalances. Beyond the massage, she also gave me some targeted stretching exercises to do at home. Between the massages and the stretching, I have seen a tremendous difference pretty quickly. I cannot recommend Antonina enough. She does kinesio- myofacial massage, which is different from any other type of massage I've experienced. She also has an innate sense of what muscles are tight and can find things that you don't even know are there. She's also very personable and its very easy to feel relaxed with her. I started seeing her in 2012 when I was pregnant, and she helped me find my way to sleep (much needed). Since I had the baby, I've seen her regularly for various issues: hip pain, lower back pain, bursitis. She's helped me to be able to continue to run, cycle, do yoga, etc. She is a thoughtful practitioner who cares about her clients, evidenced by the fact that she spends a lot of time helping you find ways to avoid re-injury. I'd had many massages before first visiting Antonina, including nearly weekly visits to several wonderful people who I saw regularly for stretches of years at a time. Without question, Antonina is simply the BEST. I've been seeing her now for a number of years and I always leave feeling totally renewed. I'm a musician and have all kinds of knots and kinks on a regular basis. Antonina always leaves me feeling amazing after our sessions and simply cannot be recommended highly enough. She's incredibly strong and able to go deep down and really get at tough spots. But she's also incredibly sensitive with her hands and I'm frequently just astonished at what she can sense just from barely touching me - she has really "knowing" hands. She's also has just the perfect vibe - she is incredibly warm and kind and has a great sense of humor. From my first appointment - I think it's no exaggeration to say I've now had probably more than 100! - I've always felt incredibly at ease on her table.
