TL;DR: It's authentic California style Mexican food, and it's great. Go eat it, now. Just visited this place about an hour ago for lunch. I'm from San Diego and heard that the guy who opened the place was from California as well, so I had to come in and make sure he had legit Mexican food. My wife had the fish tacos, and they were amazing. The fish is unbelievable here in Oz, and makes the fish tacos even better than the ones we get in Cali. Nice and crispy fish, with homemade corn tortillas, jesus, so good. I had the fish burrito, and again, shit was off the hook. Big hunks of crispy fish, rice, beans and guacamole wrapped in a nice flour tortilla. Too big to finish at the time, so I took her home to enjoy while I write this review. Other things... the salsa was perfect, bit of spice, but not over the top. It's BYO, but there's a bottle-o right next door, so convenient to grab a drink as well (cause you cant have fish tacos without beer, or some sort of booze, it's bad karma or some shit). The owner was super nice and we chatted for a bit, top bloke.

Great authentic Mexican which is hard to find in Australia. Will definitely be heading back next time I am in Newcastle.

Alright Mexican food but obviously not authentic. Service was great and I liked the overall feel of the restaurant. Would come here again.

Best Mexican I've had outside of the USA. Highly recommend the veg nacho or chicken taco

Two more burrito challenges have been added since AND a dessert one. Finish and get your picture on the wall. I shared Amarillo fries to start. Curly fries with a cheese sauce. Didn't look like much sauce at first but it had gone to the bottom making most of the chips underneath soggy, which was a shame. The crunchy ones on top dusted with seasoning were yummy. My enchiladas were a decent serving with Cajun spiced corn on the cob and fragrant rice that was more rice than fragrant. Yellow rice is not fragrant if it tastes the same as normal white rice. $6 for a small side serving of avocado was too expensive. I tried my partners nachos but the beef topping tasted... manufactured. Like Mexican or bean soup from a can. The service was fast. We couldn't book for two people. They only take group bookings. Joining the Wests Group that evening gave us a 10% discount.

The Big Ass Burrito Challenge is cool, even though you don't get any reward for finishing something that most likely cost them $2 in wholesale rice, but is awesome nevertheless. Recommended simple place to go for Mexican in Newcastle if you don't mind walking through miles of sad people on pokies.
