I especially loved the mix of old and new--everything from the contemporary Temptations cookware I love to the vintage Pyrex I adore. One booth even had an incredible wall of Loungefly bags. Later in the day I wasn't too far away in Winter Haven so I stopped in. She wasn't exaggerating about the grand scale of this antique store. Susan and Diego Barreiro opened their business in 2000. They started working out of their den on Havendale Boulevard in Winter Haven but they outgrew the space so in 2014 they moved to this location. In 2022 they won Best of Haven, Best Antique Store. Treasure House Antiques and Collectibles is located in a former funeral home. There is 10, 000 square feet of inventory and 42 vendors. After receiving a greeting I was free to explore room after room filled with treasures, clothing, furniture and home goods. Some of my favorite discoveries were the vintage holiday decorations, mid century Christmas tree, vintage Pyrex, and vintage stove. Prices seemed very reasonable. Clothes started at $5, antiques and collectibles started at $5, and furniture started at $10. If you love vintage and antiques as much as I do, this is definitely a stop you want to make in Winter Haven.

It took us about an hour to walk through and had a lot of things we had never seen before, including some which created nostalgia. They did have air conditioning and fans all over the place, except in the garage, which could use them the most. An issue which cut our time short in that area due to the extreme heat. The prices seemed reasonable, but unfortunately, we did not find that, "had to have" item. We will be adding this to our frequent list, despite the travel time from Ocala. My only issue was there was so much stuff on the shelves, at times, it made it hard to see it all and the layout of the store is a bit confusing, which probably can't be helped due to the age of the house. This store is straight up my alley. There are two rooms plus a back area is filled with gorgeous vintage items. Everything is in mint condition and clearly priced which I really appreciate. This is a consignment shop which means folks leave their items here to be sold. In this type of situation I will sometimes ask if the price can be lowered which usually necessitates a call to the owner of the item but here everything was priced to sell. Some of my favorite items were the strawberry print cups and canisters, vintage floral napkin rings, the little ceramic collection of dogs, and a print of an owl. They had what look like hundreds of records and really pretty jewelry. I loved everything. If I lived closer I would be stalking this store all the time. If you find yourself in Bartow and love vintage you need to stop in. To quote a saying from the 1920's, this store is the bees knees!

There was a giant old school Mickey that greeted me at the door. I immediately gravitated to a large stack of pancakes that serve as a dish cover. Realistic food props are always my favorite accessory to buy for a house. In the back of the store was a large section of items from theme parks. Not just inside the parks themselves, but also pieces from hotels. Like even the phones from the hotel rooms! You can find all sorts of stuff. If you are into spooky stuff and like Halloween, there was lots of props and signs from Halloween Horror Nights. It was nice to see real antiques. Sometimes you go to antique stores but there are lots of vendors inside that have faurly new stuff. Mostly it was antiques. There were several rooms of art, home goods, dishes, collectibles, tools, records, toys, holiday decorations, jewelry, furniture, light fixtures, and wonderful smelling candles. There was quite a bit to look at but the aisles are narrow so you have to watch your step. Out back they sell plants. I found a small trinket box in my grandmother's China pattern. While paying I received 20 percent off and the offer of coffee and a slice of carrot cake from the sweet ladies ringing me up. I was delighted them up on their generosity. The great selection, fair pricing, and wonderful customer service makes this lovely shop a must stop in Winter Haven.

The Krazy Kricket was started by Lee Putnam and Susan Blenk who had a love of decorating and repurposing furniture. They started out selling items in a tent before graduating to a space in an antique store. In 2014 they were finally able to open their own store in the spot formerly occupied by the Appleseeds gift store. According to their website they carry mostly new gifts, a sprinkling of antiques, Ce-Ce Caldwell's  Natural Chalk + clay paint, Spartina, Mud Pie, Haute Baby and a variety of other brands." As soon as I walked into the store I could instantly see it was full of all of the things I love starting with the gorgeous flamingo chair. They had the line of Spartina Florida purses and totes that I adore. They had many beautiful home decor items, candles, funky jewelry, colorful scarfs, clothing, and cool bags. In the back of the store they have machinery that can custom embroider anything you want. You could literally pick up anything in this store and it would make the perfect gift for me. It's a good thing I don't live in Bartow because this store would be seriously damaging to my bank account. If you like girly things and you are in the downtown Bartow area you will definitely want to visit the Krazy Kricket.

The disappointment began before we even walked through the front door. The entire entrance looked more like a junkyard than a tea room: oversized plastic chess pieces, random wood on the wall where a sign had been removed, dark staining that looked neglected, broken flower pots, old rusted garden furniture. My wife and I almost turned around. Had we been paying that day, we likely would have left. But we had a gift certificate, so we gave it a chance. What concerned me even more was the safety. The steps were in poor condition, and the handrail was extremely loose, moving several inches side to side. As someone with a disability, that felt unsafe. Accessibility should be basic. Inside, the owner and our server were kind and welcoming, and I genuinely appreciated that. But both teapots had been placed on the table before we were seated, and my tea was already cold. I had to ask for hot water just to have a proper cup, which I wouldn't expect from an afternoon tea. The biggest disappointment was the food. At forty five dollars per person, ninety for two, I expected quality and attention to detail. Instead, the sandwiches and pastries were among the poorest I've ever been served. I could only manage a couple of small sandwiches and one dessert before giving up. What surprised me most after our visit was reading the five-star reviews. Based on our experience, it is difficult for me to understand how this place earns that level of praise. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism. The staff was kind, but kindness can't overcome serious maintenance and quality issues. An English breakfast black tea and a caffeine free herbal tea. Sugar and honey to complement. You do get a few courses as well. Soup and scone to start off. Then a tower of sweets and savory sandwiches. The cucumber sandwich was so good. I LOVED the soup and scones. Everything is homemade, amazing! The service was so friendly and nice. Our server poured our teas and explained everything we were getting. It was very relaxed and no rush. It was a great experience and we definitely left full! I would love to come back here again soon.
