I've grown to love it, and I'd call it my favorite place to shop for antiques in the area, quite certainly because they practically have everything you could ever want from an antique mall! This antique mall is a part of the stretch of antique places along Main Street in Clarence; they're all connected as a part of the whole 'Antique World & Flea Market' business. Uncle Sam's Antique Co-Op previously sat in this location. Inside it is most certainly a booming antique mall, with separate areas for a couple of different vendors, and all sorts of items on display for sale. In particular I noticed old books, vinyl, LIFE magazines, clothes a ton of old photographs, and they also had a ton of cool jewelry and furniture. I actually spotted a couple of things I would have been more than happy to buy if they hadn't ended up being so out of my budget. Also included in the antique mall is a small area designated as the 'country store,' which offered baked good mixes, noodles, seeds, even fudge! There are also a few home decor items that aren't technically antiques/old, but they're designed in that style. I've brought home so many of my favorite antiques from here - recently a re-purposed oil lamp, a framed heinz ketchup ad, and a mesmerizing pilgrim lady I had to go back and buy because I couldn't stop thinking about her eyes. I'm half convinced something possessed me. She just wanted a home! (Wow, she's a crazy antique lady, huh?!) Staff was incredibly friendly, probably the most friendly I've ever experienced while antique shopping. While making our rounds we were frequently asked if we needed help with anything, if we wanted to see anything behind the display cases, ect. We were also kept very informed on items that were on sale. I wish I could have found something to take home there, as it feels like the sort of store you would love to be able to support. I highly recommend this store for people who are just starting to get into the antiquing world. For example there was a stand with a used doll they were selling for $20. What??!! Their used jewelry section was better but again, I'm not sure I would buy earrings that someone wore for $10-15. This is not a wholesale establishment- this is an antique store filled with items that have been collected from estates. Some people say "one mans trash is another mans treasure." I say 90% is still trash, but it doesn't hurt to look. Everything in here is old. They have a little of everything from furniture to mattresses to glassware to pillows to rusty old tools to collectible sports memorabilia to costume jewelry to Christmas decor to makeup products. Picture everything you've ever seen in your grandparents home and transport it here. This is not my cup of tea, but I totally get that it is for a lot of people. Why the 3 stars? The man behind the register was not wearing a mask when he cashed us out for our $1 rusty tool purchase. Furniture is stacked upon furniture but all of it beautiful and reasonably priced. The owner is very sweet and there is a book where you can write down specific pieces you are looking for and he will keep an eye out for you. It's worth having a conversation with the proprietor because they also store items offsite, so he may have what you are looking for. This place also has a nice collections of home decor items which have been seen on Mad Men. How cool is that? They also host play readings after hours and took part in the Infringement Festival. This store is a wonderful addition to Allentown. Definitely stop in to see what is there or to reserve the space for the world's smallest baby shower. It's that cute. It is located within the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Wadsworth and Pennsylvania. The entrance is on Wadsworth, but there is parking available via a driveway on Pennsylvania. Additionally, there is handicap access available. If needed, call from the parking lot and one of the volunteers will come to escort you to the code-required elevator. Okay. Now that we know where Serendipity can be found, what can we expect within? At least one serendipitous find. For instance, last Saturday my daughter, just prior to attending a graduation party, found a graduation card there, obviating the need to stop again to buy a card. That could not have been more serendipitous. Okay, okay. Imagine a thrift store and an antique store got married and had a baby. Serendipity? But, of course. You won't find clothing, as a rule. Not saying never, but Amvets and Buffalo City Mission have clothes. At Serendipity you will find collectibles of myriad types, books, jewelry, lamps, dinnerware, pottery, home décor, eclectic gifts. Perhaps a hat. Possibly a shawl. Books are nicely shelved and categorized. Every other thrift store I have been in could take a lesson. The glassware is also eye-catching. The Co-Op is three stories of antiquey goodness. While the furniture is extraordinary, someone always beats me to the punch. They's always a sold sign on each beautiful piece. The Co-Op mostly has glassware, but this is definately a place to check out if you're into antiques. I've found a few vintage instructional manuals that have come in handy. There are a few drawbacks to the Ransomville Co-Op. The first being is that they are not consistently opened. I have dropped by many times only to find a sign saying that they'll "be back soon." Now I always call ahead to make sure someone is there. Another thing that bothers me are the posters strung up around the Co-Op. I think one "you break it, you bought it" sign should suffice. Or even one in each corner. There just seems to be a lot of them. But overall, this is a nice place.
