If you're at all into browsing around antique shops, put this adorable city on your radar - even…read morethe city itself is an antique, having been founded in the late 1800s as a religious commune. It's super cute and historical - complete with its own walking tour! Aurora is a hidden gem - and is less 30 minutes south of Portland! The city is pretty small so it's definitely doable as a day trip depending on how long you want to spend antique-hunting. I've never seen so many antique stores in one place - there are at least 10 within walking distance, and a lot more if you include the ones outside of the quaint little Main Street area. PRO TIP: don't visit on a Monday though - as tons of the shops and restaurants are closed oddly enough. The city centers around historical Main Street which is pleasantly walkable and offers clean public restrooms and picnic tables to take a break on. It also offers a really interesting self-guided walking tour of the historic buildings and town called the "Emma Walk" and you can find it online here: https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2013R1/Downloads/FloorLetter/460 Another little fun fact - Aurora is the home of Life Flight - the largest nonprofit air ambulance company in the country - who knew?!! There are lots of cute boutique hotels and restaurants in the area - as well as major chains in nearby Wilsonville if that's your thing. Every summer they have a fun festival called Colony Days. The town is easy to find - right off I-5. And there's lots of public parking in the Main Street area. Aurora is really a true hidden gem - I'd never heard of it and only stumbled upon it after digging around on Google looking for a fun place to stay on my way out of Oregon that's close enough to PDX but not inside the city lol. Definitely worth a day trip!

So I don't visit a lot of antique stores, but I do enjoy escaping to the country and was intrigued by the description of this cafe and store. They have a lunch special that includes your choice of panini, soup or salad and gelato for dessert, all for under $10. One very nice lady works in the cafe and it took about 15 minutes to prepare our food. So you are left to wander the two-story house filled with antiques. Not a bad marketing strategy. The space is confined, but the items are well ordered. It is just not my thing. There are three small tables in the cafe and the food was only okay. The highlight would definitely be the gelato and you have your choice of two flavors from six offered with your meal. Part of the reason for the ho-hum review is that I can't help but compare them to White Rabbit Bakery just down the street. White Rabbit is a bakery that happens to serve amazing sandwiches. Scatter Creek is an antique store that happens to serve okay food. So come for the antiques and stay for the gelato.

If you come here, do not be in a hurry, since there is one sweet, kind lady running the antique store and cafe. So come with patience. I ordered their special. A Soy Chocolate Peppermint Latte. YUM!!! I have two other gals at my office who can't have milk, so I raced back to share with them. It is rare to find a perfectly crafted soy coffee beverage in this area. What a surprise!!! First (because I love to have my dessert first) I had their fat free, boysenberry sorbet which was also milk free. YAHOO!!! Secondly I ordered 1/2 an Italinan wrap. She made it taste wonderful even with the removal of the cheeze and cream cheese. The total for the coffee, sorbet & Italian wrap was 13.00. It would have been a better price had I cut some of my calories out ;) But who in their right minds would do that??? As I enjoyed my meal, I also couldn't help but eye some fellow diner's soup & sandwich meals that were brought out. They had their Creamy Asparagus soup in charming ceramic white handled soup bowls, and the bread looked SOOOOO luxuriously fluffy on thier panini's. I really enjoyed my time & meal here. It brought a nice calm to the middle of my busy Tueday work day. I will be back again.

To make it easier for the "wife" a plethora of glasses in carriers or glasses surrounding an ice bucket were manufactured. Lots of silver patterns and 22 carat gold designs, and as time went on, green and gold, turquoise and gold, black, red, orange and other colors followed. This shop has them all! Every type of glassware in every color in a variety of carriers. Since I'm a huge fan of mid century bar ware, and mid century in general, this was my favorite shop in Aurora. Along with the cocktails, chips and dip was a popular snack and the chip and dip sets come in just as many varieties and colors. There were dozens and dozens of them here! The store is packed with inventory which means lots of items piled on every available service. I fell in love with a set of tall cocktail glasses with a turquoise pattern and gold acorns. Each came with an aluminum pointy stirring spoon. To see the pattern, I carried them up to the counter where there was a small patch of free space! I ended up buying them. The lamps here are also beautidal and plentiful. very funky! And don't get me started on the dish ware! The starburst collection would be perfect for my house but I just can't right now! Also spotted an Eames recliner chair and ottoman. The owner rehopolstered it so rather than the original leather, it is now covered in shades of advacado and gold circles. The owner is super knowledgeable and knowso every designer and the pieces they created. She grew up during those times and remembers her parents always entertaining which is where her love for mid century bar ware originated. I'm super excited about the new glasses I purchased and I will make the 25 minute trip to Aurora from Portland just for this shop!
