No wheelchair ramp. 4 steps on one side and more on other. I asked employee and she said Nope, historical buildings and all, not very friendly or accessible. What a fun place to search for vintage and antique fixtures and furniture. As I work on updating and restoring our 1938 house, I'll be back. They have tons of light fixtures, hardware for doors, and furniture. It looks like they have salvaged wood as well some outdoor items. read more

Browsing the selection of salvaged materials at Aurora Mills feels a bit like picking through the bones of a thousand deconstructed houses, businesses and other edifices. In reality, it's probably more than that. There's a lot of really great, unique antique pieces here, from furniture to fixtures to fittings. The only downside here is that everything has its price, and that price is going to be high. Exorbitantly so. That said, if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind item, the missing piece of lost pair, or an objet d'art from a distant decade, Aurora Mills is going to be one of your best bets. read more

Aurora mills architecture salvage is a super duper fabulous huge place. Filled to the brim with amazing stuff. I managed to leave without a set of six nested ( graduated) copper pans. Heavy copper nicely lined- total 450.00. Never mind the seven foot long antique French bakery rack or the huge and in perfect condition double oven wood cook stove roughly the size of a small car. On the side of things you can carry - They have an ocean of Bakelite handles - all sizes and colors - you get the idea. Bet you could spend some quality time before you strolled over to the museum (multi building) communal settlement. Buildings are worth the trip. And aurora has at least one decent restaurant. So just go, make a day of it- and you had better beat me to the copper pans- I may be back and they are a killer deal. And, the people who run the place are delightful. read more

This place is huge. It keeps going and going and going. At the time we were there, they were getting ready to open a another building just north of the main building. Be sure to ask to go down into the dark downstairs back room. There is a ton of table bases and sing, and so many other things that I was impressed with. Everyone was super helpful and amazingly friendly. They answered our questions and also helped us with terminology to find what we were looking for. One thing to note is that the towns public bathroom doesn't open until later in the morning. It doesn't open till 10 or 11. read more

Hardware, bathtubs, some furniture, building parts and stacks of old wood fill several buildings and an outdoor lot. They have a good collection of one of a kind doorknobs, lock plates, drawer and cabinet pulls. In fact, Restoration Hardware should get down here, buy them up and put them back into manufacturing. They have a large collection of 3d letters of all kinds. They are missing out on the opportunities in their aluminum letters - no X or O! They do have a selection of industrial cast iron table legs, they are expensive at about $4-500 per set of 4. Everything is clean and well displayed. Their Portland branch is a little hipper and industrial. This location is almost exclusively traditional antique aesthetics. I think it would be a fun job to have a business like this. Categorically ridiculous prices. $10 for a cotton bandana from the 90s or oughts? $275 for a basic brass nautical light? prices do not improve proportionally on the larger items. If you're exuding cash through every pore and have limited time to shop, shop here. If you just want to enjoy a look around and gain inspiration, come here. I read several reviews that mentioned the exorbitant prices, and I didn't find that to be true. Their prices are fair for what they are selling. I like a lot of their stuff. They have an excellent, well-edited selection. But I have two problems. I never want to feel like a store is too good for me. And it feels like I wasn't their type of customer. I'm thoughtful and friendly, they weren't so much. But, okay, antiques people are not known for their people skills. My bigger problem: the woman at the front counter told me that they only sell authentic antiques and if something is a reproduction, they make a special note about that. This seems to be technically true, but I saw what seemed to me like a blatant misrepresentation. Upstairs, they have a beautiful steamer trunk. It's a lovely teal color with green and pink rosmaling. The price (were it truly what it was) was excellent. I have seen similar ones online for easily twice that. The front has a painted monogram and the year (1826) painted in fancy lettering. When I opened it up to look, it looked like it was old, the boards were sanded, but unevenly and there was a little box built into the trunk. The box lid was pretty trashed. It could have been nearly 200 years old, or maybe 100 years old. You know what isn't that old? The paint job. It isn't aged. The outside of the trunk shows no signs of use. And who puts a year on the outside or their trunk? Their initials, of course, but the year, why? Why would the outside look so nice when the inside looks old and used? Wouldn't they have aged the same? And wouldn't the outside, the one that was exposed be in worse shape, not better? Also, the outside corners are clad in a decorative copper that has just been nailed on with finishing nails. I doubt, if this had been used; that it would have stayed on. And 200 years ago, they didn't have machined copper nails to match. So... someone tricked out an old steamer trunk and tried to pass it off as an ornately painted 189 year old treasure. Was Architectural Salvage fooled when they bought it? Or did they make it this way? I am betting that they were fooled. As it is, it's very pretty and even knowing what it is, the price is not bad. So why represent it as something it isn't? It makes me feel like either they don't know what they are talking about, or they're willing to pass fakes off as real. This stopped me from buying today. read more

This place is flat out amazing, filled with all kinds of wonderful salvage, beautifully displayed and rich in its variety and quality. VERY pricy, but really no gripe there. Im told they gather this stuff from all over the country. This place could be my FAVORITE place. BUT the woman running the joint while were there was surly, dismissive and rude. and not just to us but to other customers as well. Retailing is about service. I will NEVER return here. Horrible. And I live in large 1899 Craftsman home, Im always remodelding and looking for "THAT" piece. UGH read more

A few years ago I was trained to be able to look at a building and correctly date its construction and recite the properties of its design based on all the little clues that the exterior yielded. So walking in here my brain went into overdrive for a split second before shutting down completely. (On an aside, I always wondered what the result of too much of a good thing was.) Entablatures, bracketing, doors, and leaded stained glass windows all were clues of finely crafted Queen Annes, Shingle Styles and Greek Revivals of days past. There's so much to look at, and one really isn't too sure where to begin. Yet the worn pathway of the old wooden floors and the squeaks of the timber stair treads lead the way while alluding to finely woven stories of life and home. Where a man ruled his public parlor and study, his children were seen and not heard, and his wife was left to hold the family and house together without a true place to call her own. And here in little Aurora sits the dissected elements that made these houses actual homes. Amongst the piles of construction materials and furniture are tucked little gems of humankind: tin cans still with oil, roller skates with worn leather straps, postcards scribed with familiar salutations and apologies for never finding the time to write... It's a bit of an eye opener that the romanticized view of yesterday may be lovely, but in honesty these people were not much different than you and I. While we've learned to treat these buildings and materials of the past as if they're fragile artifacts, we must remember that their already tough lives and fine craftsmanship allow for future years of use. Finding what you dream of here isn't the problem in the least. However deciding upon the item that honors the spirit of your home and is just the right fit can be a bit of a daunting task. But the perfect pieces is in here somewhere. One just has to look for the clues. read more

Eager for a treasure hunt? Aurora Mills is a real treasure trove of architectural and old-house items great for restoration work or today's mixed-media art. It's one of those places ~ like Rejuvenation, like Hippo Hardware, like Old Portland Hardware ~ that's a "must-search" if I'm looking for specific hardware for our Victorian home or something worthy of repurposing. It's also just a fun place to stroll through to see what's been added to the ever-expanding inventory of items. Sticker-shock? Many of the salvage pieces are pricey, but they're pricey anywhere because they cannot be reproduced. It just goes with the turf when seeking vintage items of this nature. read more

I truly like coming here and finding items for my projects. they have a good array of different items to pick from. I notice a lot of reviews about prices and agree a little that they are high but for the convenience of not having to hunt all over for something it is ok to me. Their lumber prices are better than some places i have shopped and they have a great assortment. They have some industrial items that i have not seen anywhere else before which makes it a gem for projects. I asked for help if they had a certain item and they had 3 people looking to find some for me to look at, i felt that was pretty good service. read more

We drove about 45 miles to check out this place today and it was so worth it! The selection is amazing, mind blowing, in fact. Yes, prices were high, but the antiques are unique. We bought 39 feet of corrugated roofing for only $58. The staff both inside and outside were very friendly and helpful. (And the dog was welcome and got a biscuit.) We will go back to get an authentic post for our front porch when we get to that project. read more

This review is based on the credibility of the business. Honesty and knowledge of products is not optional in this industry. I have bought 4-5 pieces from this shop and I will now be assessing all for authenticity. We have been on the hunt for an antique lantern for the landing at the top of our stairs. We found one at Aurora Mills that was appropriate era, style, and dimensions. But it was substantially more expensive than all other lanterns in the store, as well as lanters offered by other architectural salvage sources. LIke double the price. I asked why the price was so high and I was told: (i) the "glass" was made of the mineral mica; (ii) the metal used for the lantern is bronze; and (iii) the designer of the lantern was Stickely (althought it is "unmarked"). All sounded reasonable and the lantern was great so we purchased. I have since confirmed that (i) and (ii) are blatently false, and I have serious doubts about (iii). I had the latnern inspected and the "mica" is plain stained glass. And I tested the metal with a magnet - not bronze, just iron. This is the type of business where we as consumers rely on the expertise of the dealers. In any event, mistakes do happen and I'm always willing to accept an explanation and resolution when an issue arises. That was the most disappointing part of the process. When I called to explain the discrepancy, I was told initially that they were quite embarrassed and would immediately resolve the issue with a price adjustment. Apparently they have an issue with quality control on product intake. That was 5 weeks ago. I have since called at least 5 times and sent more than 6 e-mails asking for a resolution. The attitude on the phone is quite dismissive, and my e-mails have been completely ignored. Really unbelievable given how important reputation is in this business. read more

Seriously? $70 for a 3-inch amphora? I'da passed by that thing at Goodwill without a second thought. $5 for old hotel-room numbers? Hippo Hardware in PDX sells them in bulk for $.50! $545 and up for salvaged doors? Again, try Hippo Hardware, the Rebuilding Center, or your grandma's attic for more logical prices. Walking around this store made me feel insulted and mocked. Luckily, the other antique stores in the neighborhood boasted a wealth of reasonably priced taxidermy and other glorious crap to behold. Skip this joint and go across the street to the tasting room for a couple of glasses of wine instead!!! read more

I was on the hunt for a shelf to add character to my closet and looking for an old piece of crown molding. I found a neat one that was marked 30 dollars and thought to myself, "that's a lot for an old piece of wood" but I thought it would be perfect for my project. I went to the register and was picking out some old drawer pulls with an associate (tiny ones at 14 bucks a pull) when an old lady came and said that my wood was marked wrong, 30 is what they paid for it, it was actually $165! I asked why and they said it was expensive to transport the items. I think that kind of mark up is robbery. Avoid this place unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket. read more

I just happened to randomly drive by this store today, and was so happy that coincidence brought me here. This neatly organized time capsule could keep me entertained for hours, but I just love sifting through strange, little oddities from the past. They really do have some beautiful and unique pieces, unfortunately, everything seemed quite expensive (the reason I'm giving it 4, instead of 5 stars). If pricing were a bit cheaper, I'd probably furnish my entire home with their collections! All in all, sometimes you see that one-of-a-kind piece that you just have to have, and I could definitely see this place as the perfect store to find such an item. read more

I enjoyed looking at the stuff they had, but I was far more entertained at the prices!! I couldn't stop laughing. Their prices are insane! You've gotta be a damn fool to pay these prices when you can buy this stuff off eBay for a fraction of the price. But apparently people do! Literally a piece of wood, square in shape, $35?! Galvanized rolled up tubes smashed up like it belongs in the scrap bin, $25/ea? Small metal lettering for $60-$80-$100 ea?!? Wooden pulleys for $100 when they're $5 on Craig's list. Horribly constructed furniture in bad shape with nails on the face for thousands of dollars?? They have awesome stuff there but they clearly believe it is more precious than it is. I'd expect these prices if they were smack dab in the middle of rodeo drive, but not Aurora. Busted up corbels for $50-100/ea even ones that are brand spanking new l made out of cheap line from Home Depot, $50!? Nasty busted up bankers type lamp for $450. Machine cast iron legs for damn near $1000! I can buy the whole friggin machine for less than that. They probably find their stuff off craigslist's free section then turn around and try to sell it for an exsorbitant amount of money. They had a wall full of old cast iron wall sconces for hundreds of dollars. I bought a set from an old restaurant off Craigslist for $12.50/ea. Maybe they'll buy them off me for $250/ea? read more
