We are regulars here as it's o e of our go to place in town. However, if it wasn't good we wouldn't keep going back. This time we had the Chimichangas with chicken and steak, Enchilada Almendradas with shrimp, Tacos de la casa, and the Campeche Chimichangas with steak. All the dishes were very good with lots of flavor. Those of us with rice and beans were also enjoyable. Two people had the Bird of Paradise drink and they really liked it. Only negative was our server never asked if we wanted more chips or salsa or to see if I wanted another Arnold Palmer. read more

Our waiter Ben was patient and understanding with my almost 2 year old. I ended up taking our food to go because she was being a little too wild for my liking and probably those around us. (I knew it was risky but I needed a break from the newborn at home and I was hungry/thirsty lol) I got chicken & onion enchiladas with the green sauce and rice and beans on the side. I've ordered this every time I've eaten here because I like it so much. I'm so glad I found a place so close to home with good enchiladas. I feel like I've tried a lot over the years. The rice and beans are really yummy as well. They give you chips and salsa right away after you sit down but not really a fan of either, I think they're free though so not a deal breaker. I also ordered 1 lime margarita on the rocks. I can't recall the name but I know it was the second option with the slightly better tequila, not the house margarita. It was kind of sweet (for my liking) and I initially thought it was possibly made with a mix and not fresh but Ben said that wasn't the case and brought me some extra limes which was kind. Wasn't my favorite margarita but that's ok, maybe it was just a one off (hopefully) and it will be better next time, or I'll just try something else! Looked like they had a lot of other great drink options. I know they have some kind of happy hour and serve brunch as well, but both I have yet to experience. My wife and I live locally to this establishment, so we visit every other month or so. For a little while (during and shortly after the pandemic) their quality went down. However, my wife and I visited last week- and much to our surprise, their food was excellent. Now, my wife is a native Californian and I lived in San Diego for about 35 years- so we know good Mexican food. We are, to be honest, Mexican food snobs. Too many Mexican food restaurants in the Midwest have Americanized the cuisine, with salsas so mild they're sweet rather than spicy. Store bought tortillas that are gummy and flavorless. Not Antigua Real! Who ever they now have chefing for them now... Knows how to make Mexican food! Excellent! Service has always been on par here as well! read more

I swung in because I was craving some Mexican. I was by myself, so I sat at the bar. Service was great and immediate. I ordered the fajitas with steak and al pastor. The steak was good, but I was thoroughly impressed with the al pastor. Not sure if it was a fresh batch, but it had so much flavor, I was blown away. Don't change a thing and I'll be a regular. This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. The Latin cuisine is authentic and delicious and it's difficult to pick a favorite dish. I've never had a disappointing meal here. After going here on few occasions now, I feel like this is solid choice for Mexican fare. Most recently I had the Nachos con Camaron...very tasty, the jalapeno crema is fantastic and puts this app over the top. This is one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants. I'm not a man that prefers presentation, I like good quality food but Antigua has gorgeous looking and utterly delicious food. The spicy salsa actually has heat yet it is still delicious, the burritos are absolutely smothered in sauce of your choosing, the creamy jalapeno sauce is my personal favorite. This is the second time I have eaten here in two weeks. It was just as fantastic as it was the first time. We were seated on the patio, as was our request. There was a light breeze blowing and they brought out some music. The atmosphere was perfect and we enjoyed sitting outside. I ordered pork with green sauce. I have had this dish at other places and undoubtedly this was the best version that I have tasted. The rice and beans had flavor and every sauce that I had was fantastic. My husband ordered some pork dish that had pineapple and that was just as flavorful...although I liked mine more! The staff was friendly and prompt. They took great care to make sure that they paid attention to cleanliness. I have heard the breakfast is amazing. I will be trying that very soon. read more

Nice atmosphere.. attentive... fresh food. As a resident of Mukwonago I've eaten here a dozen+ times. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. One of my favorite elements is the layout of the restaurant. If you want to go somewhere and be able to hear the person across the table, this is a great spot. The food is delicious and more upscale then an average Mexican restaurant. Meals are about $10-18/plate. They have a good fish fry too... something to remember when you want a Friday Fish Fry and all the regular fish places are packed. A couple of my favorites are Arroz con Camerón, Enchilada Suizas, and their Churro/ice cream dessert. I was not a fan of their shrimp soup.. I prefer cold shrimp soup.. and this one had a thick tomato base, more of a shrimp tomato bisque. That's all personal preference of course. It was presented well (see picture) and I did finish it. In small town Mukwonago, food options are limited. This place has good Mexican food. It isn't anything necessarily anything to rave about, but it's good and they're usually quick. The enchiladas are always a good choice, but their fajitas are where they excel. They have pitchers of margaritas which is a good option money-wise if two of you are having some. read more

I am puzzled that Antigua Real received less than 4 stars. I love their food and have always had friendly service. The food is not the same old Tex-Mex style, which I love, too. This food represents other regions of Mexico and Central America. Fabulous, flavorful options. We ate there again just yesterday and once again, all three of us moaned in appreciation of the complex flavors and freshness of the food. Please try it. Good for lunch or dinner. The food isn't out of this world (and I will agree with any reviews that state their food comes out concerningly fast), but they do have a wide range of Latinx offerings & I've never had anything that I didn't like. I'm rating this a one star and we didn't even get to eat the food! A party of 3 entered the restaurant Monday evening August 9, 2021. One person went to the rest room, the other 2 waited for the host to arrive. When he did, he asked the usual question of "how many." The answer was 3 and was told the third person was in the rest room. The host responded, "oh, well we will wait for the rest of your party." One in our party said "he is in the bathroom." Then the host immediately turned to the next group and seated them. Then the third person walked out of the rest room expecting to find the other two seated in the restaurant. But no, now the host said "now there will be a 10 minute wait." When questioned why, the host responded "well, this is a common practice." In all my years of eating in restaurants, I have never been told your party cannot be seated because someone is in the bathroom. Unreal. We left. read more

This place is not that good. Service was horrible! Waited nearly 20 minutes to see a manager and still have not received my tortillas that it ordered from the server 30 minutes prior. The hostess I asked her to grab a manager, the manager showed up 35 minutes later. At this time not very crowded, no social distancing, and our server was not wearing a mask. Beyond rude. I drove 20 minutes to pick up my order just to find the curbside sign is missing. I call and am told to go inside. I politely request that they bring it out as I am in unacceptable attire (note: curbside is still listed as an offered service option on both google and their website). A man reluctantly came out, took my payment (I tip well), but upon returning with my food, endlessly scolds me for asking them to come out and trails on and on about not needing to provide the service anymore. We found our group at Antigua Real after driving down to the area on a Monday night only to find that our beloved David Allan's was closed and due to very limited options, Antigua Real got our business....and never will again. Not good, not bad, just meh. Definitely not a place worth returning to. Best part by far was the cold brews. Besides that, the booth that our group was placed in felt like it was on its last legs, rocking all over the place and the spot I was seated on felt like it could barely support a toddlers weight, forget about a 6ft tall adult male. While the portions are ample in size, only 1 of the 5 people in our group was really happy with the food. If I find myself in the area in need of food in the future, I am definitely skipping Antigua Real and going to Taco Bell up the road. read more

Great food as always for lunch today! Loved the Mar y Tierra tacos -steak & shrimp with tamarind & goat cheese. So yummy. Came with delicious black beans and rice too. Ate inside and it wasn't crowded at all. Lots of empty space around so felt pretty secure. I have not been eating out all pandemic- so this was a treat ! Im ready to start coming here regularly. Stopped in for drinks with friends and had a wonderful time! Jimmi O was our bartender and he could not have been more delightful. He was very busy but still managed to keep our drink glasses full. This place was recommended so I thought I would give it a try. They were very short staffed this evening, and it showed. It really wasn't the management/restaurant's fault...they are just having difficulty hiring new people. The staff that was working really showed teamwork and provided excellent service. As far as food, they have very authentic Latin dishes, and their margaritas are "to die for." I highly recommend the "Midnight Margarita." It's a blend of mixed berries and Tequila. You can really taste the blueberries and Snozberries. Goes down smooth! Plenty of parking, and they handle large groups. read more

Real-ly terrific! Thanks to Yelp for shedding light on my newest addition to my Mexican fave list. The initial attraction was a children's Spanish cooking class. I've got to say for 40 min of free entertainment that captures and educates is a perk I've not found offered by others. Plus, I received 10% off my meal after the class. The food was good but lacked a few sides. My enchiladas didn't come with sour cream. Ok, no big deal and I could've asked. But, isn't sour cream standard? Still the food was worth the drive. And, they have an expansive coffee bar. I was extremely impressed with the service. I will say the most polite and attentive I've had in a long time. I'll certainly be back sooner than later. I was going to post a picture of our food, but it was too good to not eat it instantly. I would **HIGHLY** suggest the Pork Loin Al Pastor. It was a well presented dish that tasted up to its description. We also got the churro's for desert (see the posted picture) and it was a very sugary sweet dish. We read the precedeing reviews about the quality of service, and we had NO problems at all. Quick refills of sodas and chips had us happy right off the bat. Nice looking place and has a great interior. Food was good and the portions were just right. We split 2 entrees and a fried ice cream. Food was great. Service was just ok. Server was nice and pleasant just forgetful. It was not busy and she didn't look like her boyfriend just broke up with her. No excuse why she was not a good server other than she doesn't understand that her living is made from tips. I start my tip at the beginning of the meal at 30% and work my way down with my min at 10%. She didn't nt refill drinks forgot to bring something we requested 2 times. Just weird that you would do almost nothing as our server. She wasn't even the one to bring our food or drinks out either. So she just took our order and that's about it. She got 10% cause there were 4 things she had to do to get 30%and she did 1 of them. I'll go back but will ask for another server if we get this one again. read more

the place is pretty don't get me wrong and once you actually get to the food it's not half bad! but this place is extremely overpriced and overvalued. our service was horrible and the waitress couldn't even serve us alchohol because they were a child. we ordered one large sized mango margarita and they served it to us with no tequila in the drink at all, they then refused to add some for free and when we got tequila to add to it they delivered a 1/4 shot glass full of rail tequila and charged us $4.00 for the whole thing. what a dump. This place has amazing food! Went here for a first date.. first date was terrible and the guy left (thank god) but I stayed and enjoyed myself. I got the Al pastor tacos with Rice. Pork was amazing. Their salsa is sooooo good. Amazing staff. Very kind hearted people. Treated me with respect and made sure I was well taken care of. I recommend this restaurant 1000%!! Their menu is unique. Had such a nice dining experience here. I don't normally find myself in Mukwonago, so I took the opportunity to check out their food scene while there for a doctor's appt. Went around 11 am and was legitimately the only customer there which was great due to the attentive service and short wait. Wish I could be the only one in restaurants more often. I felt transported back to my volunteer abroad in Antigua, Guatemala with the ambiance, Spanish music and superb food. The waiter seated me in a prime booth next to the beautiful waterfall wall. Complimentary chips and salsa- chips came out warm, would have liked more salt. Salsa tasted like any other. Horchata- creamy, cinnamon-y goodness. Better than most I've tried Guava juice- I've taken a recent liking to guavas so was happy to see this on the menu. It was slightly creamy and bubbly with a subtle, natural guava flavor. Very refreshing. Roasted Egglplant soup- unlike anything I've really had. It wasn't liquidy at all like soup. More like a really, really thick stew. Had big chunks of eggplant that still had a little crunch to it in a chile sauce. Looked like vomit, tasted delish. Tamales calientes w/ side of guac- pork tamales topped w/ pico, sour cream and cheese served over potatoes. Came served on a sizzling skillet. It was so hot that it fogged up my camera lens when I was trying to take a pic #foodieproblemz You have a choice between spicy verde or a milder red sauce. Went with the spicy which had a nice kick.
