Anthropologie in Carmel is a really beautiful store super clean, well organized, and definitely fun to walk through. Yes, it's pricey (as expected), but the clearance section is AMAZING. My daughter scored a pair of jeans that were originally around $300 for only $60, which honestly made the stop totally worth it. Only downside was the service... it wasn't great and felt a little unhelpful, which took away from the experience. But overall, if you love Anthro and want to hunt for deals, the clearance racks are where it's at. read more

Haven't been to an Anthropologie in a few years but Nikki made our experience so welcoming. She has great customer service and really stood out to us during our time there. The store is lovely and quite large with so many items to look at. I went straight for the impulse section, and their cook books and Halloween/Fall decor. During our time in the store, we were never greeted or asked if we needed help with anything, despite many employees walking past us and making eye contact. Just felt like their noses were turned up at us the whole time we were there. I was shocked. I guess a "hello, welcome in" is beneath them. I won't be coming back to this store. read more

I love Anthropologie. I love the vibe, the style, but as you may know, they are a little pricey. This location is great. It is well-maintained. There are plenty of employees around to assist you if you need it. They are also extremely friendly and welcoming. The dressing rooms are always impeccable and there never is a way to get you into a dressing room. The sale section is always full and you can really find some great pieces and deals there if you look. I really have nothing bad to say about this store in this location. The only thing I wish is that it offered more. I have been to several anthropologies, and this one by far doesn't carry as much product as the others do. I also noticed going in, but they don't offer too many of their A+ , plus size clothing here. I know so many wonderful plus size people who would love to shop this location but can't because things are not offered there in their sizes. I would love to see more product and more plus size clothing there so everyone feels comfortable coming into the store and shopping. Architecturally this is my favorite Anthro store by far. It meanders around and has lots of little nooks and crannies for displaying the store's whimsical merchandise. The changing rooms are downright wacky, accessed by walking through a courtyard off to one side of the store. I am usually inspired by the recycled design style of the store display, with great flights of fancy in color and form. I have to say this visit the window was more lackluster and faded into the grey rainy Carmel day. This trip the merchandise was showing a bit too much restrained good taste, and a whole lot of beige and blue. I still love my charming pottery and colorful clothing finds from this store, but I do expect a bit more artistry from Anthropology. read more

Stopped in on a Wednesday. First time here. Store is huge. Everything is sort of everywhere. Wasn't greeted once. Saw maybe 4-5 employees though? Even overheard their little pow wow with the manager talking about numbers and percentages for the day. Four of them literally standing there and saying "let's go" and then continued not to greet or speak to the people around me. I stood in the shoe section for a few minutes holding a shoe. Two women at the counter just kept chatting about how some woman returned some shoes and how they smelled. Approached the counter with two items. The woman took her merry time coming over. No hello. No did you find everything ok. She took an attitude with me which I found pretty ironic. Checked me out and that was it. Awful customer service. read more

The service is second to none at this store. Friendly and professional staff. The selection is great. From the smallest of sizes to larger sizes, something for everyone. I love that I can go in to look for a gift for someone and always find something for myself. They are pricey, but I must say they are excellent quality clothing. read more

It was my first time at this location, and I was super impressed. They had a great selection and size range, and the overall vibe was fun. Until it wasn't. That being said, the service sucked. I was greeted once at the door and left to fend for myself the remainder of the time despite being followed around the store. No matter where I went or which way I turned, I was met with the judgmental and watchful eye of a suspicious employee. I'm highly confident I was racially profiled at this location so much so that I had to leave after being made so uncomfortable. I will not be returning and highly recommend any people of color reconsider shopping at this location. They're opening a location at Del Monte Mall soon, I would wait for that. read more

One of my favorite stores ever! I try to make a point of stopping by whenever I'm in Carmel. It is one of the largest Anthropologie stores I've ever been too. So many lovely and wonderful things to look at! I adore the clothes at Anthro. I really appreciate that the ensembles I purchase are of good quality and are super cute. So important! May 7, 2021 between 12-1 p.m. We were just in the Carmel-by-the Sea Anthropologie. My husband and I were very disappointed with the customer service. I watched other shoppers and noticed they also were left alone to navigate the store without help. Finally I stopped an employee coming out from the backroom to ask for help. My husband and I visit Carmel By The Sea 3 or 4 times a year. I had seen a darling accessory online so we strolled through The Plaza and over to Anthropologie. An associate who later identified herself as the manager was shadowing me. How do I know? She was mindlessly straighten items on a rack that were symmetrical and perfectly straight. Then she walked around my other side and finally asked if was finding everything I needed. I asked if they carry any plus sizes. They do not, nor much in petites. She didn't approach the blonde/fair skinned customers. Just me. I'm Italian. Olive skinned. Plus size and 56 years old. I decided to only purchase a headband. The least expensive item I've ever purchased with Anthropologie. I told my husband about the incident. He was lounging in a comfy armchair outside. He just shook his head. Wore my new headband to dinner that evening. I know the company has made the headlines regarding racial profiling. Perhaps this location needs a bit of additional training. San Ramon ( near our house ) has a lovely welcoming staff. Shopping at that location from now on, or online. read more

The staff at this location is superb! I shop here mostly for the sales, which, are amazing, and sometimes other items. I recently purchased a jacket right before the shutdown which did not fit well, so I had to wait 3 months to return it. I left the tags on, and kept it in the bag, but I was not sure they would accept a return after that long of a time, they were happy to take it. I am always impressed with the window displays and how clean and organized this location is, way better than the San Francisco store. I'm so grateful to have this antro near me so I don't have to drive to the Bay Area to shop. read more

The first time I visited Anthropologie in Carmel by the Sea was in June, 2021. I met and worked with Wardrobe Stylist Kelly who was absolutely wonderful! I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for, and at first set out to just compliment my existing wardrobe, but Kelly's sense of style helped me realize I could fit into and wear a lot of Anthropologie's beautiful clothes. She brought me pieces to try on that I normally would have never considered. I really 'take my hat off' to her for being able to choose things that were very complimentary to my body type and to my overall coloring (hair/eyes/etc.). She made the shopping experience lots of fun; even my husband, who was just sitting in a chair close by watching me try on all of the different styles she brought me, couldn't believe I was willing to go outside my 'comfort zone'. Kudos to Kelly! Fast forward to last week, when I came to the store a second time. The store was so beautifully merchandised, everything looked clean, organized and inviting. I had a fairly complicated issue that needed to be resolved, which involved the Store Manager, Maryann, who was extremely accommodating and exemplified what a true customer service experience is supposed to feel like. Anthropologie has become a major fashion retailer throughout the years, but I remember back to when it first burst onto the scene. Even though it is so much bigger now, the experience I had with Maryann and Kelly made me feel like I was still shopping in a small boutique. The clothes I bought the second time covered a lot of ground . . . the selection was so great that I was able to get some casual, dressy, and holiday pieces, which all came together as some very unique looks and color combinations. Thank you Anthropologie, Carmel by the Sea, especially Kelly and Maryann, for making my second experience at their store the best one yet! Always a friendly upbeat staff, great sales (in the special room) and I always find fun kitchen decor here. But what I love most about Anthropologie is that they carry my signature scent... What's up with the lame customer service? There will be a line of customers with one sales clerk ringing people up. While waiting in line, I watched 3 other sales staff meander back to the cash-wrap, putter around, and leave the area without even a glance at the customers. Hello? How about one of you girls put down your little task and get on a register? Then when you do get up to the register, the sales girls are dumb as posts. Once, I paid with a dollar coin, and the girl had to go ask her manager if that was real money? Seriously, WTF. It's a DOLLAR. Duh! I will say that the store does have interesting houseware items. You can always find some smelly candle or a nice tablecloth on markdown in the back. Their window displays are always creative, and the store is always clean, but the music is frequently too loud and the selection of products is too "hipster." To sum up: This store is hit or miss. Sometimes they have cool products for the house, and other times I simply walk out in frustration because I can't stand either the music or the ignorance of the staff. read more

Gorgeous store with a wide selection of clothes and home goods. Located at the second story of the chic Carmel Plaza mall off of downtown Carmel. One giant level. I came looking for a dress to meet my bf's parents and was pleasantly surprised by the selection as well as the adorable dressing room that is removed from the main store. Extremely friendly customer service (but it was a rainy Saturday, not very busy) and I was in and out in only 20 minutes. Added bonus, after shopping you can go to the coffee shop downstairs and drink cocoa and lust after other people's dogs. read more

And every once in awhile I can find some cool cheap housewares on clearance. I've noticed that their clothing clearance room seems less picked over than other Anthropologie's I've been to - I think this one gets less traffic. I cannot justify purchasing 100 dollar shoes.. why am I going to pay over 200 dollars for a pillow or a dress I can get at Crate and Barrel for cheaper (that is a scary thing when some place is more expensive that William Sonoma or Crate and Barrel..sigh)? The only thing I have ever purchased at Anthropologie is soap..and it was good soap at that... if i could give ten stars, i would. this place is organized, clean, sales associates in every single corner so if you need something - they're always at arms length. the fitting rooms run so smoothly, and i just canNOT believe how lovely the staff here are to everyONE. what i've noticed about this anthro is they carry a lot more items than the other anthro's i frequent. the cardigan selection is awesome, it seems like they have more of a variety of colors in stock... the odds & ends such as journals and all that good stuff - they definitely have more of a selection than other anthro's near me. sales associates are so friendly, accomodating - just excellent customer service all around. this is my all time favorite anthropologie EVER, beating out santa monica, san francisco, palo alto and even santana row. must be the laid back beach atmosphere, and how the beach is literally a few blocks down the street. if you've ever got time, it's definitely worth a trip to this anthro location :) read more

The clothes are always nice, typically a little over-priced, at Anthropologie. I know this store is relatively new, and this was my first time at this Anthropologie. The store has a good selection of clothes, and I found the cutest Ella Moss top. I was crushed to find out that it was the last one in my size and in my desired color because the one I tried on was a little frayed at the bottom... The sales clerk was nice enough to give me a small discount which I greatly appreciated; I probably would have bought it anyway, but I really appreciated her outstanding customer service. read more

This is my favorite Anthro store. It is spacious and has a huge selection of clothes and home decor accessories. The staff there are ALWAYS so very helpful, and if they cannot find a particular size/color, they will do the catalog ordering for you (can't beat free shipping). This Carmel store has a large sale room, and with 3 daughters who love the store as much as I, this room is where we like to hang out. I would give the store 5 stars, but the price tags on some of those clothes (that really shouldn't cost THAT much) holds me back. I know the pricing strategy is the company's - not the store's - but for most of their lovely dresses - we have to wait for a sale to make our purchase a reasonable one. read more

Anthropologie is one of my favorite stores. I almost hate going in there because when I supposedly go there to "window shop" I end up spending $300+ its so bad! But I can't help it, they have cute clothes. I love shopping at this Anthropologie compared to the others that I have been to (SF & SJ). The staff are always friendly and start a room for you right away. Very attentive, even when they're busy. The store is well stocked and neat. I never have a problem finding my size on the regular priced items along with the sale items. Because of their consistent customer service I frequent this Anthropologie. It's worth the drive. And after a long day of shopping you can go down Ocean Ave and relax on the beach. read more

This place was just so freaking cute!!! I loved what they had, and it was just so warm, friendly, and comfortable inside. I could've stayed in there for hours were it not for our tight schedule!! The only problem I have with Anthropologie is their high prices, but that has nothing to do with this location in particular. This one was just great. I was a very big fan of Anthropologie until I noticed holes (not due to moths. I checked) appearing in clothes that I owned less than a year. I'm not a careless person who throws her clothes on the floor and stomp on them with shoes. I take good care of my clothes and only wash them on the gentle cycle and hang dry. Anthropologie isn't exactly cheap so I expect the quality to match the price. Unfortunately this hasn't seemed so with half of what I've bought from them. So, I decided that I'm going back exclusively to M by MJ as some of the pieces I own from his label have lasted me for up to 9 years (and still going!) and not a single tear, rip, or any fading. I'll still buy Anthro's jewelry and housewares but I'm going to be much more selective if and when I ever buy clothes from them again. read more

Without exception, every time I've shopped at this Anthropologie, the staff has been friendly, helpful and never pushy (don't let my screen name fool you, I'm a gal). They always make a fuss over my dog and he's welcome in the fitting room with me (a big reason Carmel is so much fun to visit). The clothing is unique enough that I don't see it on every other woman and in every store at the local mall. Prices aren't a bargain, but they aren't outrageous, either. Their style is simply classic, timeless, and every so splendid. Of course, as with most things in Carmel (except for the Coach *outlet* mind you), Anthropologie is definitely overpriced but I still seem to keep coming back to them time and time again. I just love their cloths! Additionally, I branched out a little bit and actually purchased some housewares and other kitchen related goodies and such. To be honest, I thought the stuff would have been kind of junkey but in reality the appliance and other small kitchen tools turned out to be exceptionally reliable. So, if you're on the fence, you may very well might want to consider taking the plunge with Anthro. The only "bad" thing about Anthro really is the fact that it's kinda hard to find it if you're not familiar with the area. Basically, it's in the inner courtyard of the shopping center located by Tiffany&Co (roughly at the first intersection when you get into Carmel down the steep hill). Additionally, if you've made it all the way to Anthro, just go downstairs and visit the wine & cheese shop on the bottom level. The cheese they sample is simply divine. read more
