We found out today why you should ALWAYS use a local locksmith. First, we tried the list of "best Greensboro locksmiths" on the Real Yellow Pages (YP) website. Big mistake! We called a few of these companies, trying to get price quotes, and all were clearly out of state. We chose a company called "Local Locksmith" (not!) and were quoted $48. But after we gave our address, we got a call from someone saying it would cost $90. At that point, we tried to cancel, but we kept getting random calls from various numbers, all apparently part of this big network. We tried another business on the YP site, but they also apparently were part of the same network, because they insisted we still had a job pending with a locksmith so they could not send anyone. Meanwhile, we kept being bombarded with calls, many from 855-828-9999, which a google search revealed had been reported numerous times for phone spam and harassment. We finally wised up and went on nextdoor.com, to get neighbors' recommendations for local locksmiths. Not one of the locally recommended guys were on the YP list, by the way. We called Andersen-Whitehurst, recommended by 2 neighbors. They were busy but referred us to Anthony's Lock Service, also a local business. (It's nice to know the local "little guys" have a network of their own!) Anthony's sent out Dale, who was very nice, quickly unlocked the car, and charged $50. We highly recommend Anthony's Lock Service. Moral of the story: Use a local locksmith! read more
