I saw Dr. Azar at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore for testing for a primary immunodeficiency disease, as I had initially been misdiagnosed by a hematologist with a different version of a PIDD. I was instructed to discontinue a medication I was stable on, supposedly so that testing could be performed. After I followed that instruction, his assistant later admitted that Dr. Azar never intended to do the testing he claimed required stopping the medication for. I was stunned. I should've never trusted him. I subsequently tested positive for the exact condition I had asked him to evaluate, which he had previously refused to test for, through a much more compassionate Immunologist. Turns out I actually have two PIDD's. I also have evidence in my genetics of having a primary immunodeficiency disease. Imagine if he had tested me for it like he had promised to! Unfortunately, stopping the medication led to five consecutive bronchitis infections and one pneumonia. One of these bronchitis infections was while I was still a patient of his, and he refused to treat it. Normally, and Immunologist would treat it so I was even more stunned when he refused to do anything, and kept trying to tell my primary to take care of it instead. That was an instant red flag, and the last straw for me. This whole situation was an outcome that was preventable. As good as usual- but even better now cause they are on zoc doc which makes scheduling an appointment super fast and convenient. I booked the morning I wanted to come in- and got the confirmation within minutes. Because you can book last minute , there's a chance you can be seen very quickly if he has no other appointments prior. I got there 15 minutes early and the previous patient was just leaving. I was in and out in 15 minutes, leaving when I was actually scheduled to be seen. Other times, it can be a wait. I called in the week before to schedule and ended up waiting an hour. So either way, be prepared to wait. Your actual time with him is pretty quick , granted you are seeing him for something standard like a cold. He will check out your breathing and throat/ nose and then prescribe you stuff. Other times, he will stick around longer if you need anything more extensive or questions. Bathroom is big, clean, always has soap and paper towels. Front desk girls are super pleasant and helpful, very calm voices and personalities. They are patient when dealing with you. UNETHICAL FOLLOW UP! If I could I would give them 0 stars. I visited this doctor because of some discomfort. He suggested I get an ultrasound which I did the following day of my visit. The ultrasound office contacted Dr.Azar's office immediately after reviewing my ultrasound and spoke with one of the staff members to informed them of my results. The Doctor was not in they left a message for him and faxed the results. I visited his office on Tuesday April 23rd at12pm and got my ultrasound on Wednesday April 24th around 1pm. I did not hear from the doctor's office regarding my results until today May 13th at 5:21pm. It took them THREE WEEKS to contact me after having my results all along. Not to mention that the good doctor is up on all the latest scientific & medical research and is also open to learning more and more things about the latest advancements.. a long way from hack doctors that only go by things they learned in med school and are "set in their ways" when it comes to how to treat patients. I did not have a good experience at all visiting the office. I came into the office to get my vaccination for my upcoming trip to South America. The front desk decided it was a good idea to suggest a full blood test prior to getting the recommended vaccinations (Hep A, typhoid, yellow fever) for traveling to Peru. She was quite adamant that this is the standard practice, but this sounds like a typical scheme to bombard patients with expensive clinical charges -- terrible practice. read more

I went in to see Dr. Azar in November when I was new to the city and needed to set up a new general practitioner. When I went in, I had an overall good experience. He understood my conditions and was very attentive in making sure I was getting what I needed. The reason for the one star review is for his office staff, mainly Patricia, his office manager. One of the reasons I came in was for a refill on my Ventolin inhaler. Dr. Azar assured me that he could give me a year's worth of refills on my inhaler because it's just for asthma rescue and not a controlled substance. After losing my inhaler on the train this morning, I went to pick up my second refill to find out that his office had filled out the prescription incorrectly. It said to dispense 18 but with no refills. At this point, the pharmacy told me to call Dr. Azar's office. On the phone, I was met with Patricia, the incredibly rude office manager. I've never had anyone at a doctor's office speak to me the way Patricia did. After trying to explain (over and over) why I needed the inhaler and that the prescription wasn't filled out correctly, she said she'd need to get back to me. I called back several times trying to get it sorted, each time I was met with increasing hostility by Patricia despite my attempts to explain that I wasn't trying to make her life more difficult and that I just needed my prescription corrected. When I asked her to leave a message for Dr. Azar to call me back personally, she said she could write it down but couldn't control whether he called me back. When I said that was unacceptable, she said "When you call your friend and leave a message, do you expect them to call you back?" to which I said, "I'm not leaving a message for my friend. I'm leaving a message for my doctor who's medical services I've paid for so yes, I do expect a call back." She said if I wanted to guarantee that I speak to him, I should book an appointment. I told her that I didn't need another appointment and that I just needed the prescription that their office messed up, corrected! In the end, I was able to get a 6 month refill despite Dr. Azar's initial promise of a year refill during my November appointment. I still have no idea if I'll be able to reach Dr. Azar or not. I'm not really sure how to defend myself in this situation either. The whole interaction left me feeling like Patricia took advantage of me and treated me with disrespect because she didn't feel like doing her job properly. It's a shame Dr. Azar has such a bitter and flippant office manager because I liked him as a doctor and felt we had a good appointment and that if I could've spoken to him or someone who was actually interested in the wellbeing of his patients, this wouldn't have had to have been so difficult. read more

Do not go here if you are at all concerned about being billed incorrectly. I went in for an annual physical and I was advised that I could not SPEAK during the exam. If I were to SPEAK to the doctor, I would then no longer be billed as an annual physical because I may have a concern that I wanted checked out. I was also told IF the doctor found anything wrong during a physical (is that not the point of a physical??) he could not address it, as that would not fall under a "wellness exam" as I was found to be "not well". For the doctor to address any concern at all, I would have to come back to another appointment. This is the most scammy doctor's office I've been to. I have no idea if Dr. Azar is a good doctor, but I decided to leave rather than risk a sketchy office billing me for incorrect things. Never again. Stay away. read more

Dr. Azar is really a wonderful doctor. He spends time getting to thoroughly know and understand his patients medical history. I would highly recommend him. He doesn't rush his patients -- a quality that I sincerely appreciate. I believe that when a physician rushes his patients the possibility of missing potentially serious issues increases. I have never had such a bad experience as I did at this office. From the reviews, the Dr seems great, but the office staff was incredible aggressive, hostile, and misleading. After telling me that they accepted my insurance, the front desk woman insisted on payment before I saw the Dr; I tried explaining that I have a secondary payer and that's where it all went downhill. She kept pushing me to pay, getting more and more hostile and aggressive, yelling at me. I came to the Dr hoping to get help, and instead walked away feeling attacked and lied to. Dr. Azar is a personable doctor, I went to him for a general check-up and some other testing. Each time when I got the bill from the lab I found out that Dr. Azar had requested testing that were outside of the scope that the two of us had discussed, and that I had no interest in receiving. He continued this practice even after I had a conversation with him about this. I've been going here for the past four years. And, although I haven't personally seen Dr. Azar myself, I can vouch that his past two physician assistants, Dr. Billy Liu and Dr. Yao was phenomenal! Unfortunately, I found out that they no longer work with Dr. Azar. They're both currently with New York Presbyterian to complete their residency. I would go back to either one in a heart beat. I've been to different doctors my whole life. Honestly, none has ever shown as much compassion and care in their line of work as much as Dr. Liu and Dr. Yao. I'm sure Dr. Azar is just as amazing. I've been a patient of Dr. Azar's for about a year after a referral from a coworker. Everyone in my office goes to see him. He is genuinely kind, caring, sympathetic and treats you like a human being. I logged in to my BCBC account (FL) and found the doctor, listed as an in-network provider for me. I called them to set up an appointment and they informed me they don't accept my insurance since it's from Florida. I asked them could they please let BCBS know to update their list, so other customers won't receive the same negative surprise. The receptionist said they won't do that. Every other doctor I've seen in NY who accepts BCBS has accepted mine regardless of the state. If they do have a limitation for NY only - fine. But to bluntly say that they're not interested in updating the information about them in the BCBS database is wrong. This is the age of internet. read more
