My girlfriend and I have been here a few times now. It seems to be hit or miss when it comes to…read moretheir karaoke. (which is their main attraction) We've noticed it seems to be a lot busier and much more fun whenever the karaoke DJ is the man known as Big Mike. As previous reviews have stated, this is generally an older crowd. Granted, Friday/Saturday night karaoke seems to be drawing in a younger crowd as of late, which is nice. Drinks are reasonably priced, I suppose. I was a bit baffled that the first night I went in, the bartender, who I think doesn't work there anymore, told me I couldn't get a free glass of water after a few drinks, but had to buy a 2 dollar bottle of water. One, I think they don't do that anymore, since I've gotten plenty of water in a glass since then. Two, this is an incredibly bad thing to do. I think it's almost unethical to a degree to not provide water to your patrons, considering the establishment's a freaking bar! That'd be my one complaint. My experience having fun there when Big Mike is DJing clearly shows considering after that I still give this place four stars. It is rather smokey, so please keep that in mind. But hey, it's a bar, so use common sense when it comes to that. ;) So yeah, if Big Mike is in the building, you're bound to have a good time.

It may be a dive bar, but everybody there was very welcoming. Can't understand the negative reviews. I will be going back. And if I could give it more than five stars I would. Highly recommended!!! I'll see y'all again soon, thanks for the great time.

Food really good, service was awesome and the ambiance very nice too. I would go back again for…read moresure!

While in town for our yearly vacation, we decided on Woody's Roadside for a quick and easy dinner…read morebased on the reviews and pictures, as well as recommendations from a few locals. Unfortunately we were left pretty underwhelmed with the experience. It's not that Woody's is bad, per se, it just isn't...good. The service was great. Our server, Jaclyn, was very attentive and helpful. She didn't hover but she made sure we had what we needed and was nearby if we had questions or requests. Jaclyn recommended the margarita, which is where things started going downhill. My dad ordered a classic lime margarita and didn't take more than a couple drinks of it. We all tried it and agreed it just had a nasty flavor. Sort of like bad white grape juice? It was weird, and of course there's a little asterisk on the menu that notes all alcohol sales as final. We were unimpressed with that but didn't even try to argue the point. Our food came next. It was actually incredibly fast service, especially considering the 30-top that was seated when we arrived, with their orders given to the kitchen right before ours. Everything was hot and fresh, though not all delicious. Here's a run down of my family's reviews of their food: Build-A-Burger w/ Amer. cheese - A bit too thick and tough like the meat had been slightly overworked, but it had a great flavor and was seasoned well. The edges were burnt and it was well done, not medium well. Good beer-battered fries. Spicy Hawaiian chicken sandwich - Very flavorful and tropical but the toppings made the bun soggy and the ratio of filling to bun was way off, even with ham and lettuce removed. Crab cake tower - The fried green tomatoes and sauce were great, as was the corn bean salsa that came with it. The crab cakes were good too, though nothing special. The shrimp on top were juicy and well-seasoned. Wouldn't go back for it though. Korean pork tacos w/ mac & cheese - They were okay. The slaw included was a bit too sour but the pork was juicy and flavorful. The mac & cheese was too bland. Chicken strips & fries - The chicken tenders were cut wrong so they were hard to eat. I had to cut them up with a fork and knife to get bite-sized pieces that I could chew. They had a good flavor but the technique needs some work. The beer-battered fries have a strange seasoning on them that got more unpleasant the more I ate, but everyone else liked them, so that's probably just me. This is one of my least favorite restaurants we've been to on the Gulf Coast, which is unfortunate because I honestly thought I was going to like it a lot! For the price, I don't think this is a great place, especially because it's pretty out of the way from the main drag(s).
