If I didn't schedule out far enough, then another client could schedule and I'd just have to miss out or schedule the next available day that that time was open. It's first come first serve so what Stacy did was wrong. I was then paired with Dr. D whom I saw for a few months and definitely felt much safer. Then due to availability, I switched to Sally and wow. She is the perfect therapist for me. I don't plan on leaving Desert Sage while they have a gem like Sally there. Disappointing and obnoxiously unavailable…read more All of my kids have attended therapy here at one point or another, and two shared the same therapist. One of my children needed consistent support but was suddenly dropped as a client under false circumstances. When I tried to find a different therapist, per my child's request and the advice of other medical professionals, I attempted to stay with the practice. An appointment was made with a new therapist, only for the practice to later cancel it and say my child was restricted to seeing only one other therapist, without providing any explanation. That therapist had limited availability, which would have required me to pull my child from school inconsistently. When I explained that wouldn't work, I was told, "Well, maybe this isn't the right practice for you." Not my child, me. I was advocating for my child to receive consistent care, and that response was incredibly disappointing. Don't waste your time here, you'll end up needing more therapy than what you walked in with.

I have been advocating for the care of my son, who is very sick, for the past 10 years and as we have navigated the dizzying labyrinth of psychiatrists, counselors, treatment centers, care centers, hospitals, and insurance providers, many of whom have been wonderful people, I would place Diane Newman as the most outstanding of them all! In all my years of seeking care for my son, Diane has been the only one to educate me about pursuing a Single Case Agreement with my son's insurance company which I had never heard of before. She guided us through the process with a successful result! We have had nothing but a five-star experience (I'd give them six out of five stars!) with initial conversations, setting up appointments, and their doctor-led, full model DBT approach which includes intake sessions, one-with-one counseling with a DBT specialist, skills-based group counseling, "Family Connections" training groups for loved ones of those in DBT care to teach them how to understand and supplement the care their loved one is receiving, and 24/7 coaching. This is the most multi-faceted out-patient approach to care that I have ever seen in the past 10-years of doing research (believe me, a lot) and my son is able to do it via Telehealth since we live 90 miles away from their site. My son's counselor even rearranged her schedule to make room for him in her schedule! We are on the front end of my son's care with DBT Arizona so I will need to update this review as he gets more deeply into their care process but he is as optimistic as he has been in a long time because of the way he has been treated by the DBT Arizona team so far. Thank you DBT Arizona for having patience with all of our questions, for making us feel like family, and for continuing to walk with us and support us with all the wrinkles and bumps in the road of this painful, yet hope filled journey.

Upon my arrival, the receptionist appeared surprised to see me and was rude and questioning about…read moremy presence. (Later, I followed up about the reception experience with the clinical coordinator, and she informed me that the receptionist is employed by Premier Businesses, where DBT Arizona is renting office space, and that the receptionist is not employed by DBT Arizona.) The situation became even more uncomfortable when the doctor escorted me into the room, where I was unexpectedly confronted with the presence of a male individual whom I had not been informed would be attending the appointment. I was not asked for my consent to have a learner present during my intake session until I was at the threshold of the room. In the follow-up phone call, I strongly encouraged the clinical coordinator to review and revise their policies and procedures regarding the presence of learners during intake appointments. An intake session is an inherently sensitive and vulnerable experience, particularly when a client is meeting with a provider for the first time. The doctor was not yet familiar with my personal history, and I consider it highly unprofessional to introduce an additional person into such a setting without informing me in advance and obtaining my consent in advance. The clinical coordinator explained that they used to obtain consent ahead of time, but it caused some of their clients to worry about upcoming appointments, so they changed to obtaining consent in real time at the beginning of the appointment. I reject that explanation. If DBT Arizona insists that consent for the presence of the learner has to be obtained at the beginning of the appointment, the said learner should not be brought into the room until the client consents. It would have been ethical if I had entered the room with the doctor, and she had asked me for my permission to bring the learner into the room. Only after my consent should the learner have been brought into the room. Having that person sitting in the room with his laptop open, ready to take notes and already being part of the equation before my consent, was not acceptable. It was presumptuous. The clinical coordinator also explained that she assumed, because I had previously stated that I would be all right with having a male therapist, it was okay to have a male learner present. To make that inference is completely unacceptable. Having an appointment with a licensed therapist who is male is different from having a male spectator present during an intake appointment without obtaining the client's consent first. They do not have biographies readily available for their therapists. After two weeks had passed since my original request and I still had not received the bios, I made an appointment without knowing anything about my therapist's qualifications, education, or experience. I was motivated to move forward and felt that the clinical coordinator was not helpful in this instance. The clinical coordinator explained that they used to have bios published on their website, but they had to take them down out of safety concerns. While I understand the safety concerns, I reject that explanation because those bios should still be readily available to the clinical coordinator so she could privately share them with prospective clients. It shouldn't take weeks to obtain bios. The clinical coordinator had an explanation for everything. All of the explanations were about how their current system works, and none of them addressed how they were going to improve the system based on my feedback to accommodate the needs of their current and future clients. If you are considering DBT Arizona, you need to be prepared to advocate for yourself and your needs. This is a place of business. Their primary goal is to make money. You will have to be in charge to ensure your needs are met. Be prepared to ask the right questions and be prepared to say no if you don't consent to certain situations.

After I mentioned that I was moving out of my parents' home, much of the session was spent with Dr. Tregoob looking for apartments on his phone. From my perspective, this did not feel like a therapeutic exercise. Instead, he periodically pointed out available apartments in good areas and encouraged me to act quickly if I found one I liked. My recollection is that he also arrived late and ended the appointment early, and there were long periods of silence during the session. The reason this is not a 1-star review is that I had seen Dr. Tregoob several years earlier and found him knowledgeable about anxiety management. While I had noticed some similar time-management issues during those earlier visits, I felt he demonstrated genuine expertise in treating anxiety. I called 3 more times the week of my appointment to confirm and still didn't hear back. The morning of she called me saying she was late cuz of her new puppy. When she arrived I was trying to openly communicate about what had happened. She then said "YOU'RE CLEARLY UNHAPPY" and I left.. GREAT SESSION. I was looking forward to meeting with her.
