Drove 30+ minutes to my appointment in Columbia only to be told I was six (6) minutes late, which was debatable, and that there was a five (5) minute grace period. They cancelled the appointment. Looked on the site and on all communications...zero indication of this (wild) five minute grace period. I don't know if this is a Columbia-specific office policy, but it's a bit ridiculous. That was the last straw for Anne Arundel Dermatology, which has been progressively going downhill for the past 12-18 months. Will look elsewhere for dermatological health care, especially now that it appears to be shifting to focus on sales and cosmetic procedures. read more

I've been a patient of A.A.Dermatology for probably 30 years, although I believe that--in its earlier forms--the ownership or responsible parties were local, whereas now it appears to be under the umbrella of some kind of huge corporate overlord. In the last 2-3 years, my experience has been like this: While Dr. Gamber is just fine, no complaints, the admin side of this practice is impossible. I have total body skin checks, (as recommended) 2x/year. I cannot schedule my next 6th month appt when leaving, because they "do not have books that far out. Please schedule in 3 months." Good luck with that. Neither online nor calling gets you anywhere. (You might get a callback in about a week.) I have resorted to walking in (although it's 20 minutes from home,) and waiting in line to schedule an appointment. I have done the same thing after receiving a barrage of emails and texts insisting that I have a balance. Logging in didn't work, so I did finally have to appear in person to be told, no, I did not have a balance. After my recent winter appointment, I received no bill. I did get those above-mentioned texts, but was conditioned to view them as spam. I honestly don't remember whether I should have a bill from somewhere unless they actually send me one. However, in a month or so, I started getting calls from a collection agency, ascertained that it was for an A.A.Derm bill (which I'd never received.) At this point, the "portal" miraculously worked, and I paid online. I have tried to share this general dissatisfaction with whomever is in charge, but there is no actual management contact info to be found online. Do you complain to a specific doctor? I'm not sure it's their fault. Anyway...this may be the trend of modern medicine, but for now I'm switching to my partner's derm practice where--so far--I can call, get a human, and schedule right away. read more

Something has happened with the the practice...in January of 2023 my wife cancelled an appointment with Dr. Gamber, a day or so before. I have called and written them at least 6 times, including a letter to Dr. Gamber...protesting the $50 cancel fee we saw in bill(s). $50. Today, June 2024 we get Bill Collector letter! Literally the worst dermatology experience I've ever had was at Anne Arundel Dermatology in Annapolis. Next thing you know, my wonderful practice in Greenbelt became part of this lousy network. They lost all of my medical records (a decade+ worth), started billing me for some other client's botox, and began in-person oversight of my favorite NP that was so insulting it made me feel horrible for her. Very difficult to reach a live person, website is not user friendly for figuring out how to reach a live person, and they don't confirm appointments nor send reminders. I've been trying for 2 days to reach them because I was surprised to see I had an appointment scheduled for today. Finally after digging around and trying several options on their phone line (45 minutes of my time), I got a hold of a live person this morning, and when I did, they wanted to charge me a no-show fee for cancelling an appointment I didn't even know I had, and when I pointed that out, they actually said they would be charging it automatically so I have "no choice". The one time I went to their office months ago, I waited for an hour to see anyone (despite having an appointment). The provider I met with was great, but not worth the terrible staff experience. The staff, while I waited, was laughing and communicating as if the department were closed... yet my $30 co-pay was taken before I even sat down to update my file. I made an appointment with them. I then cancelled it a week or two in advance. I then received a message the day before that I had an appointment still. I called and let them know that I had cancelled it. They apologized and said it was cancelled. I then received a message the day of or after my appointment that I missed my appointment. I called and let them know that I cancelled it TWICE at this point. They apologized and said it was cancelled. I then received a bill in the mail for $50 for failure to show. I called and let them know that I cancelled it THREE times at this point. They apologized and said it would be taken care of. I then went to my rescheduled appointment and they said I had an outstanding balance of $50 on my account. I explained the whole thing and they apologized, saying the billing department messes up all of the time and it would be taken care of. They were overly apologetic and assured me it was taken care of this time. I finally felt good about it. I just now received a bill in the mail so many months later...for $50. I called and now I'm being told that the notes supposedly show that I never called. Is this real life? I will never pay this $50. This office is an absolute joke. Nevermind the fact that when I finally made it to my appointment, the dermatologist spent three minutes with me. 30 seconds were looking over my entire body to make sure there were no more signs of skin cancer (something I'm overly and rightfully concerned about). The remaining 150 seconds were of him trying to push the COVID vaccine on me as I continuously said I wasn't interested at the moment and I deal with my PCP on those issues. I would not recommend this practice. I just posted this and five minutes later was called and told the $50 charge will be removed. I honestly have zero faith in this being factual. I am new to the area and this was my first appointment to the Annapolis location. I should have trusted my instinct when the office manager I spoke in making the appointment was cold and impersonal. But I had a concern regarding skin cancer, so I went my appointment today. The receptionist seemed almost annoyed that I was there. And I left before I saw the PA. Here's why... I waited over an hour and still had not been called in. And there was another woman waiting who was there ahead of me. And the woman before her had been waiting over 1.5 hours! I had to spot her so she could use the bathroom because she was afraid she would miss her turn. There was no one at the front desk to ask where the bathroom was so we had to call out and knock on the door to get someone to help. They were also annoyed by that. No one came to graciously apologize or tell us why there was a long delay. If there had been an emergency, we all would have understood. While I waited, I had time to do some research and look at highly rated dermatologists in the area. My daughter had a mole removed with a hack over a year ago...the "doctor" left a huge hole in her back...no sutures..no bandage...nothing...I've never seen such a horrible mole removal...the scar is huge. Today I received a no show bill for an appt for my daughter...she DID NOT have an appointment....we NEVER would see these people, NEVER...I'm surprised their malpractice insurance has not been cancelled after all of the complaints, that I have read a least. NEVER NEVER let these people treat you for anything...any doctor that would gauge out a mole and leave an open wound is dangerous. Frankly, I'm not sure what some of the one-star reviews are all about though I'm thinking it may be doctor-specific not office-specific so let me start by praising Dr. Lisa Laumann whom I saw during my visit. My experience was very very positive and I definitely felt listened to and cared for. The staff was friendly and helpful when I called to make my appointment and later when I arrived to fill out my paperwork. Dr. Laumann and the nursing staff were professional and communicated well with each other (evident from not having me repeat everything I told one person to the next one and next one like you have to do during most office visits elsewhere). She examined me thoroughly, gave me her diagnosis, gave me suggestions as well as prescription (which with my insurance cost me all of 75 cents!) She seemed to have been spot-on since her prognosis has definitely been correct thus far! read more

Very poor experience...... Made an appt to do an annual mole check, ask a few questions and freeze off some skin tags. I'm new to the area and wanted to establish a relationship with a dermatologist in Annapolis. Did not get to see a Dr, was briskly met by Catalina (PA) who told me she didn't have time to do a physical mole check and I would have to schedule another appt for that. REALLY???? I was specific about my request when scheduling. They are really good at collecting your co-pay....... but not so good with customer service. Think I will find somewhere else to go! This is an email I sent today to the office manager of the Weems Creek Facility, I hope it helps with some decisions out there... I had an appointment today at your facility in Annapolis Weems Creek today. I went for a simple skin cancer screening and to have a spot looked at that i was concerned about. All went well, front desk was kind and helpful, the girl who took me back to the room was also kind and informative. She told me to remove my clothes down to my underwear and the Dr. would be in shortly. Well that was when my experience turned uncomfortable. The Dr. was abrupt, seemed hurried and uninterested. He was cold, and gave me the feeling I was wasting his time. He even asked me "is there a reason you have your clothes off?" THIS was humiliating to say the least. I would expect such behavior from a Walmart cashier BUT NOT from a DOCTOR! I don't expect a red carpet at any Doctor's appointment BUT I do HOPE to be treated with, kindness and compassion, a Doctor should take any patient's concerns seriously no matter how not serious they are. I will NEVER come back to that facility again and I plan on sharing this experience with everyone and anyone who will listen. PA referred me to them and requested the appointment. They called me almost 2 weeks later and left a message. I called them back that same day to schedule an appointment. Could barely hear the person on the phone and mentioned they sounded like they were a mile away from the phone (you could tell it was on speaker phone). They said it was on my end. I told them that my PCP had referred me and that I got a call earlier that day to schedule an appointment. The employee told me she had none of that information and asked for my information to schedule the appointment. Earliest I could be seen was July. Got halfway through getting the appointment made and the employee hung up on me. Called back and there was no answer. The next day I get a call from PCP office telling me Anne Arundel Dermatology said they reached out multiple times and could not get a hold of me. ( A lie.) I called Anne Arundel Dermatology again and spoke to Jenna/Jennifer (I was given both names for this employee). I again told her that I could not hear her and she suggested I call back because the issue is with my line. I tried to finish scheduling my appointment and she asked why I needed to be seen. I told her the PA referred me to be seen by a dermatologist. We went round in circles and she said she could not help me unless I told her exactly what I needed to be seen for. Between barely hearing her, her wanting to know EXACTLY why I needed to be seen (which I did not know) I lost it. I told them they had the paperwork. She said she was going to play the call for her supervisor at which time I asked to speak to her supervisor. She put me on hold. When she came back (amazingly she came through clear and I could hear her) she told me the supervisor was busy and if I give her my number she would have the supervisor call me back. I asked the name of the supervisor, she said Deja. I asked if she had a direct number I could call and she said no, she would have to get her to call me back at my number. I said I don't feel comfortable giving my number to her (Jenna/Jennifer) to which she reads the caller id with my personal number. I hung up. The call lasted 14 minutes. About 20 minutes later, I receive a call from Kelly (the manager). I said I was suppose to be talking to Deja (the supervisor) and she said that she was busy in a training. She said she listened to the call and that Jennifer needed to know why I needed to be seen so she could put me in the right group for scheduling. (???????) She then asked me the same questions, why do I need to be seen? I told her the PA referred me, I don't know. She went in to a long spiel about how they need this information and how they get referrals all the time yada yada yada and at that point, I tuned her out. I was done. I told her that they had called me and left a message and all I was trying to do was call and schedule an appointment. At that point, she said that was a WHOLE DIFFERENT SITUATION. She again went on a long spiel about the difference between them calling a patient and just a referral and how I should have told Jennifer that. At that point I told her that I did not feel comfortable or safe using their services. I asked that she destroy all information and records with my name. I have to commend the efficiency of the front desk, as they knew exactly my case as soon as I mentioned my name while I was signing in. The satisfaction ended there, however. I saw Dr. Gamber for a check-up and for a look at my acne, which consists of small bumps all over my forehead, but nothing else. I expected her to discuss it with me (i.e. how long it's been going on, my skincare routine, etc), but she literally did not even look at my face or discuss it at all with me, just handed me a prescription for a brand name prescription with no generic. Before my first visit, I was forewarned that Dr. Roscoe had a bad bedside manner. However, I was also told he was one of the absolute best dermatologist in the area. And I had a severe concern about melanoma at the time. Therefore, the best it was! I didn't personally find his bedside manner to be bad at all. He's very direct and doesn't waste time with chit-chat. I'm an engineer. Therefore, that's perfectly fine with me. Every visit since then, I've been seen within 5 minutes of my appointment time and he's keeping an eye on my skin health. All said and done, I'm glad I came here to see Dr. Roscoe and will continue to do so as long as I'm living in the area. read more

After having a bad experience at another local dermatology practice (discussed in a separate review), I searched here on Yelp to see if there were any better options. I, frankly, wasn't sure I should use yelp to help me pick a doctor. But after having a really bad experience elsewhere on my own, I decided to give yelp a try. What I learned was that I should check on yelp first. Yelp is as helpful picking a doctor as it is in picking restaurants. Anne Arundel Dermatology had great reviews and in my personal experience this week was that they live up to their reputation. If you have lots of extra money, lots of extra time, and you enjoy frustrating yourself while being treated badly, I would go somewhere else. If you are looking for prompt, efficient, high quality professionals, that provide superior care, please learn from my mistake and come to this practice first. On Monday 4/30/18 i went to the dermatologist for the first time in 10 years. The last time I went i had a horrible experience that left a bad taste in my mouth for doctors. Growing up I was ridiculed for my skin even by my own mother so it took a lot for me to face my fear and actually go. My first impression was of the receptionist. She was so sweet and had a great smile that calmed me. The new patient paperwork went quick and then I was taken back. A few minutes after arriving in the exam room dr. Roscoe and the nurse Kim came in. From even the first words out of his mouth i knew I made a mistake. He didn't listen to a word I said. When asking what medication i was on i mis spoke my new prescription and he snapped at me saying that there's no such medicine with that name. He was brash and ride and not even understanding. When explaining that a lot of creams I've tried did not help and speaking with him about different options he shut me down. It's his way or no way. When telling him I also had psoriasis in my nose he told me that psoriasis cannot get in my nose (yes it can) that I need to see an end its not his problem basically. When he left the room I was in tears. My confidence was shattered. Kim came back in by here and started talking to me. She was so kind. She went to get her office manager Michelle. When speaking to her she can we me down and wanted sincerely to help me. She caught the other dermatologist Janet before she left for lunch and had her see me. Let me tell you, Janet has been by far THE BEST doctor i have ever seen. She sat there and listened. She explained everything clearly. We have made a game plan on everything we will do. All dr. Roscoe wanted to do was give me cram and scalp oil and send me on my way. Janet actually talked about ALL options. I will be coming back because of Michelle, Kim and Janet. Thank you! read more

Dr. Gamber was helpful 5/2013 when Salisbury MD urgent care, Peninsula Hosp ER and my primary dr at the time, All misdiagnosed and prescribed treatment that made things worse. Today, I asked for samples of the Naftin she prescribed. A few samples would have been so helpful - my pharmacist has to order the prescription - or that's what I was told, this afternoon. Almost immediately after telling me to get dressed, the nurse barged in. I said, "I'm not ready." She pushed 2 tiny samples into my hand, 1 for the wrong prescription. Dr. McGuigan and Dr. Lonergan are great docs. Both are top notch diagnosticians from my experience. Very thorough and precise with the treatment. I see others have complained about bedside manner. I'm not sure what they are talking about - as both of these Drs are friendly enough. I want my dr to be well educated and trained at the best schools - so I get the best diagnosis and treatment. Both of these Drs went to the best university, med school, residency program and training. Do the research and see for yourself. In my opinion, these Drs are top notch and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well trained dermatologist. The office staff is very nice, warm and welcoming. read more

Been to Dr. Gamber several times for my guttate psoriasis. To date, I am worse off than when when it began seeing this practice. Of note: The last refill for my Otezla was to be refilled even though I had not yet scheduled a follow up. By the time I needed this refilled, I was denied until I PHYSICALLY CAME INTO THE OFFICE. The next available appointment was 2 months out. So, they essentially sabotaged my condition (it got immediately bad after not being on the 2X daily medicine). Went to my appointment and was in with Dr. Gamber for 90 seconds! I was approved for a refill, and was told it would be transferred to my specialty pharmacy. Okay, fine. I will just start the regimen all over again as it was helping. Called to inquire about my refill with the pharmacy and was informed that it was not yet filled (48 hours after appt). A day later I get snail mail from the Doctor's office that I need to get another TB test done before they can refill my rx. Why couldn't this have been brought to my attention at the original 90-second appt?! Recently received a $90 bill for this particular appt, as well. I am beyond disgusted that I am worse off than I was when I began seeing this practice. I will not be returning and am in the process of disputing my latest bill. Not impressed with Dr. Gambers 'approach' I felt extremely rushed; my visit was all of 5 minutes, if that. I came in with several concerns, 2 main & some smaller, but walked away feeling like nothing was accomplished & or had better things to do. Nothing worse than feeling like you're wasting your time, when you have legitimate concerns, which I still had, when I left. I took the day off to have them addressed- by a professional who I felt I needed to 'pull' information from. I didn't come to play sign-in, blink, then pay. Not returning. I was impressed at the amount of time Coleen took to understand my concerns and discuss the products I currently use. So this was my first visit and I was late!!! If you've never been to the area before I suggest driving there before your appointment or give yourself enough time I get lost. Once I found it, it was really easy to find. There are lot of small offices and back roads that were throwing me off. But none the less the staff was very understanding and got me checked right in. When I visited the office I did not have to wait long before I went into the examination room. I had scheduled an appointment for suspicious spots and was a new patient. I was seen by a physician assistant who really didn't give me an exam and she didn't seem very interested either. In addition I was overcharged my co-pay by $5.00. I tried to get a refund but that seemed like an ordeal and had to make two calls to remind the biling department. Overall I was fairly dissatisfied with all aspects of this practice. read more

This place is very welcoming. As soon as you walk in the air is cool and not to cold. The sitting room is very nicely positioned. They offer free wifi for guests to use while they are waiting for there family or friends to get there checkup. The staff is very friendly. The have power outlets near one of the chairs if you need to change anything. read more

Don't waste your time or money at this place. My appointment was at 3:15pm didn't get seen until 4:05pm just for them to tell me they couldn't remove my keloid but they could give me a series of steroid injections and hope that helps. Nope you won't get rich off my copay. read more

My son took off work in order to go here for his cystic acne and I went with him to make sure that everything went ok. We arrived a few minutes late and then weren't sure which office to go in as they have several suites. I would recommend finding out which suite you will be in prior to arriving so it doesn't cost you time. The reason I say that is we get to the desk in the correct suite and the young lady behind the counter asked for my son's insurance card. I told her I didn't have it and was going to self pay. Then she said I CANNOT SELF PAY if we have insurance. That is not true and I have researched and found out that you CAN SELF PAY whenever you want and do not have to go through insurance. She and the other young lady behind the counter told me that it's against the law and they would be fined. Then I said well let me see if he got something in his email because we were never sent a card. The deductibles on the new plans are so bad they won't cover anything anyway so I was planning on paying out of pocket as I always do. Then as we are looking, she said it's almost 15 minutes after the appointment time and the doctor won't see you if you're 15 minutes late. I WAS RIGHT THERE!!!!! She was the one that was giving me a hard time about wanting to PAY FOR MY APPOINTMENT. So of course our time run out as we were unable to find information that she deemed necessary. I totally wasted over an hour of my time and my son's time in the middle of the day. It's really unfortunate that these young girls are allowed to be so rude to potential clients and make up bogus laws. Since posting my disappointment on Facebook, I found that many of my friends have had similar experiences at this place, so I guess it was a blessing in disguise that she was so rude that we were unable to see the doctor. I'll have to find another one now. I'm hoping that management sees this review and teaches their front desk people the laws regarding insurance or no insurance and how to be more polite. read more

Wonderful. I had surgery to remove a suspicious growth. They were completely fabulous. They exuded concern and compassion. I had gone to Annapolis Dermotology Associates before. That was perhaps my worst experience in terms of lack of compassion, disinterest and just cluelessness. In disgust I went to Anne Arunedl Dermotology. Again, fabulous. Especially Dr. Mary Farley and her crew. Totally professional, completely fixated on the patient and patient care. The exact opposite of Annapolis Dermatology. I honestly can't say enough good about either Dr. Farley or Anne Arundel Dermatology. read more
