Came to conclusions not from her own observation or listening to me but rather from what her staff "told" her. Did not afford me a complete exam (never even looked at my arm). All she wanted to do was upsell me on a complete skin cancer screening. Spent less than 15 minutes with me. When I told staff I was not satisfied my problem was resolved, all they did was look at me and say "sorry." Completely a waste of my time and money. Don't waste yours too! I've been going to Annapolis Dermatology Associates for almost five years. I switched from another larger firm nearby after one visit. Doctor Renfro and her large staff are amazing. The place is beautiful, marble and granite and very well lighted. Ample staff to help you. Rates are affordable. I've never had to pay anything beyond my co-pay. I literally looked forward to my annual appointments there. I have the same PA each year and she is so fun. They follow-up and really care about each patient. One of the PAs resolved a problem I've been experiencing for more than 15 years when no other doctors could figure out. It was a miracle. I've had a myriad of procedures done here and no scars or issues. My parents have also gone here and have nothing but wonderful results and reviews about ADA. I highly recommend it. read more

I took my daughter to Annapolis dermatology in October 2024. The visit and service went just fine. No complaints. I decided to pay the $30.00 required copayment in cash after seeing the doctor. I remember it specifically because we also needed a note from the young receptionist for my daughters school at the same time. About 3 weeks later, I get a notification via text saying my copayment was outstanding. I attempted to pursue the matter but was advised that the issue was with the office and not the billing department . Beware. read more

They accepted an appointment for my young son, knowing his age. When we arrived and were seen they told us he was too young for their care and to go to pediatric dermatologist and then billed us. Left multiple messages with reception for the manager and left a voicemail with the manager and have not heard back. read more

Today, I was not impressed with the NP who I saw today for post procedure; she was hurried, distracted & her energy off before the appointment 'began'. She looked me up and down, from the waiting area; not in an ushering 'right this way' but rather a funky vibe, as if she was 'doing me a favor' by seeing me. Gaul. She neglected to greet me professionally or introduce herself (which is a basic and easy script to deliver: "Hi Ms... I'm so and so, I'm a __ here, & I'll be doing your XYZ today") She rushed to start, before the door was closed (giving, me the privacy I'm due) so I gave a verbal & physical cue by pointing to the door with a um, yeah; so she'd close the door. I awaited the introduction (which never came) & directives; I felt like I had to literally pull info from her. Clearly, she was checked out and already on her way home, mentally. This was a very quick midday visit on a Friday, maybe 15 min, at best, but it was a scheduled appointment one that demands professionalism, a steady hand, patience, communication, etc. if you're going to be touching me, get in the game, be present, or see the sideline--You're doing a disservice otherwise. Maybe she's fatigued, but these are basics & it definitely gave pause. This particular experience is not practice reflective as a whole, mind you, as my latter review with Front/Back end, Dr. Mesky, his nurse, PA Reid & his MA/Scribe- met & exceeded my expectations with flying colors. They themselves warrant the previous 5 star review. PS: I'd give a name here, gladly so she can be instructed on professional etiquette but she failed to provide; nor was she wearing a name tag- maybe it was her last day. read more

Really bad practice. They represent everything that is wrong with modern medicine. You never get to see an MD unless you need the Mohs surgery. I went the them for a couple years and was misdiagnosed for two simple conditions the entire time. I had sebboraic dermatitis but the PA never recognized it somehow. As well and a rough patch of skin and was prescribed cortisone cream which did nothing. Like most patients I had confidence I was being handled properly. Then my wife had some moles removed and the office policy is that they can only do 1 per visit??? Why?? So they can bill additional visits. They said it was too much trauma for the body. I asked another dermatologist and they laughed at it. He acknowledged that they don't get paid as much for multiple procedures in the same visit but obviously it's fine. After finding another practice the dermatologist immediately diagnosed my sebboraic dermatitis... and he was an actual MD, not a PA. He prescribed me a shampoo and almost immediately it was under control. He also gave me 40% urea cream for my rough patch and within a couple months it was gone. After a little research I'm not sure how a dermatology office missed this. All they seem to care about is removing moles. I understand this is a business but the way they practice is literally one of the many reasons medical costs/insurance is so high. People in general trust anyone in a lab coat which opens is up to being taken advantage of. Dr Renfro can you please explain with medical evidence why you can only remove one mole per visit?? read more

I am 67, very light skinned, and have had a lifetime of skin issues; have been going to dermatologists quite regularly since I was in my early 20's. I have recently seen Dr Emma Lanuti, twice, and both times have been completely and supremely impressed with her- more so than any other dermatologist I've ever been to. Utterly conscientious and personable. Super sharp. Tons of common sense. Hasn't made me feel rushed, whatsoever. To the contrary, she's extremely thorough, and has made me feel as if I have my own personal dermatologist. She could not have been better, either time. As I am new to the area, I almost did not book an appointment here because of the reviews. So after having my appointment I felt I really needed to make a statement. My experience was quite wonderful. I was early for my appointment, they took me right away, there was no wait in the examination room, the doctor came right in. Dr. Meskey was delightful, we laughed, he did a thorough exam and I left feeling very good about the care that I received. Everyone was warm and welcoming... Simply nothing to complain about. Brief update post surgery. Please read the longer review preceding with more detail. I more or less followed directions for wound care but was fastidious about keeping things clean. A little leaking the first day but none after that. Stopped in today for suture removal. As my day went I ended up twenty five minutes early and was prepared to wait. Processing in was fast and easy. I was called within five minutes by a PA whose name I missed (sorry ma'am). A few quick snips (I didn't watch) and some instructions for care over the next weeks and I was back in my care in twenty minutes - before my appointment time! Darn good for an afternoon appointment. It has been my observation that medical practices, even good ones, suffer from reception and administration shortfalls. In my experience Annapolis Dermatology Associates does not suffer from that shortfall. Efficiency and patient service reign supreme. read more

I have been a patient at Annapolis Dermatology for years. They have definitely gone downhill. Billing has deteriorated. With primary and secondary insurance my providers do not charge me personally. Same used to be true for AD. Recently I have been separately billed. Sometimes they correct their errors but not always. Today I was subjected to a long delay (30+ minutes of waiting) after appointed time. Mood music was abusive. Last year they fouled a biopsy and failed to diagnose a melanoma. Luckily a second biopsy caught it. No one ever admitted their negligence or apologized. Operation required an in hospital stay at a D.C. hospital which was no fun. I was considering changing dermatology provider but they just merged with the provider I was considering. read more

My mom recommended I go here swearing by Dr. Renfro after having several bad dermatologists in the past. While I agree with some other reviews regarding bed side manner being below average, I had a good overall experience. Scheduling wasn't tedious, but it wasn't a quick call. They set up all your new patient info on the phone then give you info to go online and fill out new patient forms there instead of in office which is nice! They also got me in quickly when I said I was experiencing pain. Once in the office (I only arrived two minutes early), I was moved into a patient room right away. The girl there got quick info but not too in-depth and told me the PA Caroline Beuhler would be right with me. And she was! Two minutes later she was in the room with a scribe (not my favorite to have extras in the room and I wasn't asked or prewarned--partial reasoning for deducting a star). She was quick like other reviewers complain about but she was thorough and had clearly reviewed the forms I put online. When it came time for her to prescribe an antibiotic she was familiar with my reported allergies. One complaint is that she pushed and squeezed on my inflamed cyst that I was there about after I had mentioned several times that it was painful. I understand this was necessary but this is that instance where a warmer bedside manner would have made the pain more forgiving. TLDR: overall good experience; quick, thorough service; knowledgeable staff; nice office environment; easy access and parking. Would recommend! read more

My experience with Annapolis Dermatology has been less than ideal...in fact it's been abysmal. Im sure most others may have had a better experience, though my fathers appointment had been delayed 5 times for removing his skin cancer. We have been assured that it's not life threatening, though I can tell you that doesn't make you feel any better. After 5 delays we have now been asked AGAiN if we are willing to change our appointment time. We're done!! Bye bye. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. My biopsy came back as Basil cell skin cancer. I went to the office for surgery day and Dr. Refro, first time meeting her, greeted me, 2 seconds later she is drawing on my forehead in the wrong place. I informed her of that so she goes to my file comes back over wipes off the mark and began drawing again in the wrong place. The scar from the biopsy is gone. They didn't take measurements or photos therefore don't know exactly where to cut. I then called off the surgery like anyone in their right mind would do. This is very upsetting to me. I will never go to this office or refer anyone to them. They are very unprofessional. After this experience it does make you wonder how many people that just don't know any better this may have happened to. read more

From the start ADA seems to more interested in making the most money off of each patient then the patient's care. I first signed up for a screening and had 2 spots that I wanted to get checked out. During my visit I showed the PA the 2 spots and started to ask about a 3rd. I was stopped and told that I would need to sign up for a full screening. So I did a year later. I was told that I had 2 spots that need to be removed. I was not allowed to do both the same day. This way you can charge me with 2 surgical procedures. On my visit that involved my scalp, I asked the Dr. if we could do the MOH's treatment and I was told no, not for that area. Well I later was called back in stating that they did not get all of the cancer. Now they want to do the MOH's treatment. Really. So I get charged again for another surgical visit. During my visit with the MOH's I ask about the Squamous Cell and I was told it was Basal Cell. That was strange because the whole time I was told SC. I was told that by the lab tech and the Doctor. So now they say it's always been Basal Cell. So now I am thinking I just had surgery for no reason and ADA mixed up my lab specimens. I asked about this with all of the nurses while awaiting results. I waited in the room for over 30 mins to get stitched up, and when the doctor came in she seemed frustrated. Dr. said I had SC roots and Basal Cell. ? I will never know the real story but this will be my last experience with ADA. As I stated before it seems ADA is only concerned about the money here are two other examples: I was asked how many steri strips I needed and I said 4 and then that will be $2 each. Seriously after what you have charged me and my insurance co. Finally the late appt charge. If your 15 min late you charge us a fee? That fine if we can charge you. I sat in your waiting for an hour past my scheduled time. I will send you my late charge! I sat down with there office manager and explained my experience. I was told separate procedures due to infection. She was very nice and listened to me but nothing changed. Oh one more thing, after my first procedure I sent in photos of my scar and asked if a stitch had come out. I never heard back from the Doc. The issue was moot since they cut me again. read more

I've always had a great experience at this place. I've had a few things removed and go in for yearly skin checks and the doctors and PA's are always very professional and helpful. I'm also a redhead, and admittedly overly concerned with everything I see on my skin, and they are patient with that as well. I often have to take my kids with me due to work hours and lack of childcare and they are very flexible and patient, letting them pick out prizes and giving me later appointments - you can even borrow an iPad to bring in with you if you have a longer appointment. On one occasion, I had the time wrong and was late by a half hour but they still took me in (they called when I was parking to find out where I was). No extra fees or charges. I'm not sure why all the bad reviews, but I have had nothing but positive experiences to report from my interactions with the front office, nurses, PA's, and with the doctors. read more

The receptionist who answered my call (new patient/appointment inquiry) was cross with me. She was rude, foul, impatient, and left me feeling very turned off by the practice as a whole. The physician had strong reviews on vitals.com, so I will follow through with making my first appointment, despite this experience, then update my review here. I am a doctor myself and will tolerate inefficiencies with a physician's office (but not mistakes) if I respect and connect with the physician. FYI to schedule a new appointment, you must: (1) Call to get a 9 digit portal code and provide insurance information; (2) provide all requested information in their online portal; (3) call again to review the information and schedule the appointment; assuming you are in-network. My insurance recently changed and while I did provide the type of insurance I have, I could not quickly pull up a copy of my new insurance card, so I said, "Also, I just confirmed with my provider that the physician is in my network and I do not need a referral." (which is true, time-consuming, and annoying to do, as we all know!). Instead of acknowledging this statement in any way (e.g., "I understand but we need to verify on our end as well", or "OK, you will have a chance to enter your insurance information in the portal"), she scoffed at me as if I interrupted her. Even if the office is slammed, there is no reason to be downright caustic to patients. read more

I've visited this practice about 6 times now, and I have grown tired and weary of how they do business. I have tried calling several times and have gotten long on-hold wait times-- despite the many receptionists that work at the Annapolis location. Canceling an appointment was impossible-- called 3 times, my call was never answered by a human being. I had a procedure done recently that actually became infected-- getting ahold of a medical professional, communicating with the office and that medical professional, and arranging for a time slot to see that person quickly was quite a process and burdensome. I felt as though I was inconveniencing the office, rather than being cared for and served as a patient. They claim that their core values are excellence, integrity, dedication, compassion, and respect. I honestly did not feel any of these values were in practice when I needed a follow-up visit to due the infection. I did see the medical professional the same day, but the process to do so was frustrating and time consuming. Not sure I'll be visiting this practice again. read more

I guess I should have read Yelp before I scheduled. I scheduled an appointment and told the operator that I was looking to get a cyst removed. I wanted to confirm that they could do it in a single appointment like my old dermatologist use to do. She checked with the office manager and said, as long as the cyst was less than 1 cm, no problem! I went in today, and was told I need a consult and the doctor who would do the work wasn't even in today, so there is nothing they can do even if they wanted to. Why do in one appointment when you can get paid for multiple appointments. I agree with the other posts. These guys are in it to see how much they can soak you for. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. read more

Waste of my TIME AND MONEY! Let me explain...The dermatologists here, well the one I had, did not help me at all! Let me start by saying, the pharmaceutical industry is a big industry, and it's all for profit. Doctors receive royalties or some form of compensation for referring patients to prescriptions. They gain contracts with these companies, and refer that companies product. Each medicine prescribed has risks, as everyone should know. It may fix or masks one thing, then you develop a problem with something else...I digress. I suffer from adult hormonal acne. The dermatologist did not even talk to me about my skin, she looked at it, gave me a run down of all the medications she can prescribe, which i was naming them for her since I've taken each and every one...she then recommended me going on Accutane...NO. So, I decided to try out the topical medications AGAIN...FAIL! If my acne is hormonal, which I have learned that it really is, then it's something I need to take care of internally, not applying topicals on my face to enter my bloodstream, and worsen my imbalance. She then proceeds to write the prescriptions, which I have found does not work. Because the doctor told me my acne is hormonal, I would have thought we would discuss my nutrition, foods that offset my hormones and foods that can balance them, staying away from dairy...instead of prescribing a bunch of topical medications that are not only irritating to my skin, but is only masking the problem and not treating the root cause. To conclude, the derm just threw a bunch of prescriptions at me, I felt rushed, left unsatisfied, and did not discuss the root cause...the root cause is hormones, and the cause of that was/is my nutrition. I can understand if I had the typical teenage acne that could be rectified through topicals, but this is hormonal so topicals are not going to cut it. I know this and I'm not a certfied dermatologist...a waste of my time and money. The office ambiance is nice, but the dermatologists (ive seen 2) does not care about the root cause, just masking the issue and meeting their goal in pharmaceutical sales with the partnering companies. They're not experienced in true skin health, African American skin, and the medical assistant that they have come in to accompany the doctor was stand offish, pointless, never asked the doctor my question, and uneducated. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! YOURE BETTER OFF DOING SELF RESEARCH ON YOUR CONDITION AND LOOKING AT YOUR PERSONAL NUTRITION AND DIETARY FOR SOME SKIN CONDITIONS. I have been going to Dr Renfro and Jim Heins for years and have total confidence in their operation, professionalism,patient care and thoughtfulness for the patient. I have had a number of procedures that included SC,Basil, Melanoma as well as having to have plastic surgery after one procedure. They always showed a genuine concern for me with every visit.They always followed up with phone calls to see how I was doing. My wife and daughter are patients and 3-4 friends who I recommended go there have become recurring patients and happy with results . read more

Dr. Tom Meskey is very thorough and knowledgeable while making you feel very comfortable. I have been going to this practice for over 25 years and Dr. Meskey does not do unnecessary procedures, he knows exactly what he is doing. Dr. Renfro saved my life 25 years ago when I had melanoma and I would trust her to do any surgery that is required and I could not recommend these 2 doctors any more highly. read more

I have many complaints and concerns about this office. First of all, the wait time is extremely long. Then, you see one person to check your skin (I do full body checks for moles), but it's another doctor that actually removes the moles. There is a disconnect in communication here. The doctor did not read my records to know my strong family history of moles, melanoma and other cancers, yet she's the one who recommends when I come back next. She will only remove one mole at a time for the reason of "to avoid confusion and infection"...I don't know any other dermatologist who makes you come back multiple times for multiple mole removals. I'm guessing this is to charge the insurance for multiple surgeries (and yes I had to pay a co-pay each time). When I asked (twice) for someone to look at additional moles when I go back for my stitches to be removed (because the first person who did the skin check missed these), they said yes...however, I just called to confirm this and the lady on the phone said no, noone is available that day so I have to make yet another appointment, which means yet another delay for questionable moles, possibly melanoma. In addition, it's extremely difficult to accommodate multiple doctor appointments with work and kids' schedules. Anyway, my skin, and my health, cannot wait. I highly highly discourage anyone from going to this practice. read more

Visited Annapolis Dermatology Associates 4 months ago for them to inspect a discoloration on my hand that just appeared out of no where after one day in the sun. The PA not a doctor asked me what I was there for once she came into the room ignored it, said it was nothing, and was determined to give me a full body scan instead. THIS IS NOT WHAT I CAME IN FOR!!! She "found" 3 moles that she felt required biopsies, circles them with a pen immediately, and instructed her assist to prepare to remove them. Never even asked my opinion and really didn't give me much say in the process. They finally called me 2 months later with the results. Told me one mole on my back wasn't cancerous, but would need a more in depth surgery to cut deeper and wider just to be safe! I felt this may be BS, but asked around and got mixed reviews. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a second opinion because the lab used up all of the moles in the test per ADA office assist who called me. She didn't even hesitate to ask a doctor. Here was the final straw.....Went in today for a 12:15pm surgery. Arrived at 11:30am. Took me back to the room at 12:18pm.... No problem there. Laid on a table for 45 mins waiting for them to start the surgery while they all left. They finally came back in and smelled like food. I guess they took lunch. Procedure to 10 mins total. Received internal and external stitches. Discussed what was going to be given to me for pain management. All they would tell me is use extra strength Tylenol. No prescription if any kind. I told them with an incision like that on my back I would need something more. I now my pain thread hold and haven't use Tylenol in years because it simply has no affect on me. They refused and here I am in excruciating pain! I plan to file a formal complaint with the BBB and the medical board at AAMC first thing tomorrow. THEY ARE ONLY OUT FOR YOUR AND YOUR INSURANCE COMPANIES MONEY$$$! read more

I went there twice for appointments. They seemed okay, but I waited past my appointment time for service. I'm not a fan when doctors make it seem like their time is more valuable. Then, I moved back to Ohio and forgot about an appointment I had previously set up. They called me and gave me one day notice of the appointment and have a policy that you must cancel more than 24 hours before, so it was too late for me to cancel. Then, they billed me $50 to my home for missing my appointment. Absolute crooks. read more

I recently had a full skin exam with Reid, a PA. He biopsied a freckle on my arm, which came back "moderately displastic"...translation..."this might turn into cancer." I didn't think it was anything. Good catch by him. I went back to have this weird freckle removed a month later. The surgery was performed by Dr. Renfro and Christine, a PA. I didn't feel a thing. The music in the office was a nice touch. I saw a couple negative reviews on Yelp before my surgery, but my experience was 100% positive. Specifically, one reviewer was disappointed with the new PA (I assume Christine, who helped me on both visits and started in Oct). Not sure what the problem was...she treated me very well. According to Linkedin, she went to Bowdoin College, a top 5 liberal arts school in the country, worked at two clinical research firms (including Harvard Clinical Research)...she was also very friendly (and sort of cute). I would much rather see her than some doctor that went to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College. In sum, the entire office was very friendly. Everyone was top notch, from the front desk to Dr. Renfro. Both PAs seemed more intelligent and more friendly than most doctors I have seen. I hope I don't need more skin carved off me, but if I do, I know where I am going. read more

This practice has the worst administrative staff in the medical field that I have experienced. Don't expect for your paperwork to be filed correctly or your prescriptions to be called in correctly. When you call to resolve an issue, the staff that are designated to help are not available. If you do receive a call back, they are unapologetic for the inconvenience they created. The hassle from the administrative staff is not worth the potential benefit of the providers. read more

I have been going there for several years now and I have had nothing but great service. I've never had a problem with the desk folks. Granted, I haven't had an issue serious enough to see the doctor, but all of my check-ups with Reid Raleigh have gone exceedingly well. Reid spends as much time as needed to check me out and respond to all my questions and concerns. He is top notch in my book. I don't intend to go any place else. read more

The office runs like a cattle operation focused only on the bottom line: * packed, overrun schedules with long waits (but limited flexibility should a patient's schedule become overwhelmed); * poor communication regarding costs; * excessive additional fees for routine services, despite being an in-network provider; * thug-like fee collections and billing department. I have been a patient for 10 years, with quarterly visits for skin checks. As I have watched the office philosophy evolve, I confess I have begun to wonder whether the tens of moles I have had removed were solely for my own good. I received a VM that asked me to contact the office for my Biopsy results. As a person (cancer survivor) who has already had Mohs surgery, this was very disconcerting. The voice message (VM) asked me to contact a specific extension at the Annapolis Office. Calling this office is a real problem. The staff won't allow VM's to be left except during office hours. (Strange) The staff closes for lunch early, even though the greeting states that lunch is at noon. I have had hang-ups and no response to my VM's and not received an answer for the past 24 hours. If a patient is facing a cancer diagnosis, you would think a bit of sensitivity is in order. As a service organization, Dr. Renfro's team should be updated on sensitivity and responsiveness to patients with positive biopsy results. read more
