Chapel Forge is a school that provides early intervention services for children from infancy through age 4. Some children have IEPs (Individualized Education Program) that address mental, physical, and emotional challenges that would otherwise inhibit their success in school and at home. Among the staff are physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and other professionals and paraprofessionals who are all trained and ready to help children work with and hopefully overcome a vast spectrum challenges. I am a huge fan of their inclusive classrooms, of which my son is a part. This is where there are some special ed kids mixed in with mainstream kids. In my mind, this will be good preparation for mainstream kindergarten. My child's time here has been marked by a whirlwind of activity. His class has 4 staff members and 17 students, which is an incredible ratio of 4.25 students to each adult. A special education teacher is in the classroom to focus on IEP goals with children who have IEPs. The only hitch is that since a bus does pick up and drop off I don't get to directly ask his teachers daily, "How was today?" though I can email or call them to check on that. The staff is amazing. AMAZING! Everyone from the principal to the maintenance workers greet the students by their names. They engage the children. They know what the kids are working on, and engage them in those ways. Our time with Chapel Forge has been brief thus far, but I'm absolutely impressed. We're getting better help through this public school than we were able to get through an expensive private preschool last year, whose staff was NOT trained to handle kids that don't fit the mainstream mold. Nothing against them, but it highlights the quality of the services at Chapel Forge especially as a public school. It is a little bit of a bear to get into with the application process, testing, and formation of an IEP, but you just have to know that it's a months-long process and keep at it. I'm so glad we did.

She started when she was just 2 years old, and as an only child, she has flourished in ways I never imagined within just one year. The facility is super clean. Cleanliness is so important for preschoolers, and Goddard takes it seriously. But it's not just the space that's clean--the staff are cheerful, professional, and genuinely happy. And happy caregivers mean happy children. If you're a parent who sometimes struggles with "mom guilt" like I do, you'll appreciate that Goddard provides a real breakfast. Not just a snack, but a hearty morning meal. It takes the pressure off when mornings don't go as planned and you missed breakfast that morning. Goddard is not a daycare--it's a preschool. I didn't fully understand the difference until my daughter started here. The teachers are amazing, the leadership team is respectful and professional, and the owner is warm, approachable, and lovely to speak with. When I moved to the area, I toured more than a dozen childcare facilities, and while many were just "facilities," none came close to the level of care, professionalism, and joy at Goddard Gambrills. When you enroll your kid at SOTI, you have just enrolled yourself at SOTI. Thats the biggest…read moredifference between this school and the public schools in the area. So make sure that you quickly form a routine that works best with your schedule, especially if you're student is in K-5. I don't say this as a bad thing, but it is something to be noted. The SOTI staff was great, their system keeps parent in the loop of whats going on in classes, and also with homework and events. My child had her favorites when it comes to teachers, but I try to explain that there is no one style of teaching. Sometimes you get a teacher that just seems to get you, and other times you get a teacher that others may love, but you don't connect with their method of teaching. It happens... We started out child at SOTI in the 4th grade, and there was definitely a bit of a learning curve that they had to overcome to catch up with the curriculum. I feel like SOTI is about 1 year ahead of the county schools. We definitely had to be hands on with helping play catch up, and the teachers met with us regularly for support. Even though we only stayed for 1 year. Our time here made a huge difference, that I can still see in our child's development. For new students coming in, the summer programs give the kids a chance to make friends before the school year starts. Events like the Father/Daughter dance and Gala give parents a chance to be social with and without the kids. We made so many new friends during out time at SOTI, parting ways wasn't any easy decision to make.

We are almost at the 24 hour mark and I haven't even heard from the director. I was able to get a hold of the assistant director who offered nothing but "we don't know what happened". The teacher who was in the room says Nina fell, but in her words "seemed fine". There is no incident report, no correspondence through the family messaging app, nothing but silence. I am angry, I feel betrayed and sick to my stomach that my baby suffered such a traumatic injury and likely had to fend for herself. She was neglected and I am so sad for what she will have to continue to suffer because of kindercare's neglect. After rushing to an emergency pediatric dentist, we've found out she will have to be put to sleep to have caps put on her teeth, because it's too painful of a procedure to have it done while she's awake. Parents, keep your babies safe and away from kindercare This is a guilt I will carry with me all my life for trusting them with my child's well being.

My child has dietary restrictions )which she had at Abingdon), but the older lady who was the "cook" at the Gambrills location flat out refused the food alternatives I brought for my child and said she wouldn't serve them. The cook told my child could eat other, limited food. That was wild. The one teacher at the Gambrills center that my child adored, resigned. I'm not sure why. I just never felt very welcomed and the center never felt very warm or friendly to me. The "friendly" felt very forced or fake. I was relieved when COVID hit and shut everything down the following month. I never sent my child back, even when they reached out for re-enrollments. Everything happens for a reason :-)

The quality of the education your son or daughter receives stands head and shoulders above the rest. I'm not saying other schools in the area are garbage or anything like that. I'm not putting other schools down let me be clear. Just that in my years of experience working with kids in after school, the teachers and administrators at NAPS do a better job than most. I looked at all the available daycare/preschool options when we first moved to the area and am glad we went through the wait list process and held out for the placement here. Bathrooms seem to solely exist for smoking and other .. activities. Homework is busy work, stacked up to try to replace the sorry excuse of teaching. Tests seem to be the only measure of intelligence. And the effect is that kids are depressed, cruel to each other, and making friends is hard. It was better than Jr. High. The school in no way prepared me for college. Here I made honor roll every quarter and found it easy to make good grades. My poor study habits made me into a very dumb college student. Having said that, there were good and bad teachers and good and bad experiences. Being a baby boomer, my class was humongous and I didn't know many people. I'm surprised how many people I met later in life that was in the same class as me. You'll never forget high school.
