If you want someone who will follow your instructions, do not go here.

This year Allure was bought out by new owners and the new owners run the salon like a boot camp. Some of the staff have confided in me about the low morale and miserable work environment. This week, for the first time in five years I missed an appointment. My husband compensated the hairdresser $250 for the missed appointment. I then received a phone call from the new owner telling me that due to the missed appointment I was no longer allowed to be a customer there. Really? After five years of being a loyal, faithful and very generous client I am being kicked out the door.

The…read moreusual salon where I take my husband was booked for the holiday so I made an appointment at ST for him to get a buzz cut (he's partially bald). I informed them at the time of the appointment that he has moderate dementia. Also asked when I made the appointment if they'd trim his brows and was told yes. When we walked in I asked the stylist if she could also shave his chin since he has five o'clock shadow and his hair is coarse making it difficult to shave him with a razor. She agreed. He got the buzz cut - not the greatest - but nothing else. The stylist brought him back to the reception area and told me she couldn't shave him because he wouldn't lift his chin but cleaned up the sides. I was incredulous as nothing on his face was trimmed. I asked her if she could at least trim his brows. She got her scissors and a comb and trimmed the middle of his brows and told me I could do this at home. Poor experience, no effort made by the stylist to satisfy the client's needs.

One was due to an urgent pre-trip cut, the second was during a 6-week summer trip to Boston, and the third was because of a trip to Utah which really should have been preceded by a haircut. While I have even less hair than I did in 1985, Karen still rocks! She masterfully layers what I have left on the side and back. As a result, I've had 41 years of great personal care from Karen! At 72 years old, I will refrain from posting a photo because you would ask why a mostly bald guy cares about hair styling, but a good salon does make a big difference and allows me to go a little longer between cuts.

The first appointment she worked a literal miracle in changing a terrible hair cut I had gotten at another place, to honestly one of the best hair styles I've had, and it's growing out really nicely too. The last two appointments have been color correction with highlights and lowlights that matched my natural hair perfectly, and the last time we had some fun with a really pretty mauve color.
