I ended up at the Hall one day recently because a friend had a coupon for a free sandwich from one of the vendors. I wasn't in the mood for much, so I wandered and took in the large variety of food and drink on offer. (If you can't find something here to satisfy yourself, you're not trying hard enough.) The space itself was large, open, and very noisy. Restrooms were clean. I'll be back some day when I can bring a beer drinker so we can experience City Fountain. They still have 5 or so vendors though some have changed since the last time I was in. When I ask about the sign, they said that they are made to put that sign on the table even though those items are not part of the current weekend sales. They advertise a sale but do not honor it and try to rope you into thinking there is a sale when there is not.

Over…read moretime, this mall has generally been a good spot to gather with a quality set of stores, though there's definitely a lot more competition nearby with good options in all of the surrounding shopping centers that cover all the different varieties of shops and restaurants. With lots of indoor malls closing nearby, this setup has become a bit more of a rarity, and personally I still like having a large spot with furniture to sit down at when I need to rest, a climate controlled area for when it's too hot or cold outside, and lots of fun spots to do seasonal pictures. With Hawthorn 2.0, I'm quite excited for what is to come. It looks like there will be a fresh set of solid anchors like Perry's Steakhouse, AMC, Dave & Busters, Macy's, etc. If this develops similarly to Randhurst, this would be a great spot to gather in Vernon Hills. Even before this is complete however, Hawthorn Mall has retained more quality tenants and has an overall cleaner and more modern look than some of the other indoor malls nearby. With the next closest similar offering being Woodfield Mall, this is still a fairly unique offering.

They have a nice variety of ready made food right up in front, including now a fresh warm cooked korean sweet potato. Although it's not as large as the H-Mart in Niles, we've always been able to pick up the preferred items. We've bought fresh fruit and a lot of other basic Asian market staples from here, including some harder to find items like green tea pancakes. Checkout is pretty fast as well. Parking lot is smaller of course, probably more so since it's on almost triangular shaped intersection - however at least it's still easy to get in & out of since it is on the triangle intersection!

The Avenue has a lot of history behind it, once the only major indoor shopping facility in Milwaukee proper and the one time largest food court in Wisconsin, its great to see the thoughtful re-vamp of a historic part of Milwaukee. The newly re-branded Avenue is considered a shopping center, shared office space, and apartment building. While there are few retail stores, and plans for one or two more, it is not really a shopping center. Just on the other side of the building is a bustling food court wit many great options from local vendors. The many retail stores at one point have been converted to apartments, a creative way of keeping the historic look of the mall space. The space continues to have more potential and its great to see the history that still remains.
