Easy parking and large facility with extensive art book library and inspiring artwork displays are positives. It's the quality of the instruction that keeps me coming back, specifically Tristyn and Wayne with their depth of knowledge and calm teaching style that works so well for me, they encourage me to try new projects like a lidded pot and 3-piece goblet, and then there is room for me to make small, easy, gifty projects in between the more challenging educational pieces. I first discovered ceramics in college and later taught it part-time while working toward my PhD. Finding the Visual Arts Institute (VAI) of Salt Lake City has been a real joy. I couldn't have asked for a better place to rekindle that passion. The ceramics department is outstanding, thanks in large part to Tristyn Bustamante, whose knowledge and teaching ability rival those of the university professors I've worked with over the years. The studio is well-equipped, with an excellent selection of clays, tools, and glazes, and classes for every skill level. What I particularly love is the friendly, collaborative, and noncompetitive atmosphere. The generous open-studio hours also give me the freedom to spend extra time creating, experimenting, and continuing to learn. I'm genuinely grateful to have found the VAI. It has given me the opportunity to reconnect with something I love in a welcoming and inspiring environment. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I feel incredibly lucky that Salt Lake City has such a special place for the arts.
