Im 75 yrs old my husband is 80 we both have severe osteo arthritis , mine since i was 52…read moreprogressively worse now ,my hands feet knees back shoulders and neck . resulting from multiple injuries / surgeries including 2 total reverse shoulder replacements.i have bone spurs everywhere & in both feet causing me agony with every step . i have scoliosis spine curve of 67 degrees that started when i was a teenager .which is way too far gone for surgery at my age. but since my pain management dr can no longer prescribe Tramadol ,or anything to anyone to help the pain at all, i tried Dr Mukalel. as i was told its case by case basis at his office. after a 2 hour wait, the first thing he said to me was "Are you wanting to get opioids from me? " I just got out of surgery and rehab hospital for last shoulder replacement. He didnt even look at my records or history which had already been sent to him. He wouldnt let me explain all my surgeries. He didnt listen to me at all. He proceeded to bad mouth my other Drs and My insurance a medicare advantage Cigna/Heathspring. Which he says will not pay for treatment or the therapy he insisted will help me.He said I need a medicare with a supplement which I know is another 300$ per month for both me and my husband . we live on social security . we cant afford a 600$ + part D plan coming out of that. He is listed as a Cigna /Healthspring Dr. Why I dont know ?cause they have been paying for everything on EOB i get every month. .He said "Im not the Dr for you"Because I have too many things wrong .But he said I can do more Ablations on your husband and do surgery and therapy, I guess he does not like" White" women. but likes the White men? Very Rude . and I would not trust him to work on myself or my husband of 42 yrs. so back to hunting another pain management Dr. who believes in Pain management for old crippled people.Like Us ...what a waste of our day. Sorry this is so long .

I've waited about a year to make this review because I honestly needed to settle down and go…read morethrough a bit of my own journey with healing. My functional medicine doctor recommended that I see Dr Mukalel and I trust her immensely so I scheduled the appointment. The first appointment was very promising as he seemed to have listened. I scheduled the appointment to have some diagnostic injections (Mind you I had had problems with my back for over 20 years), some days were good, but there was always a little pain and then some days were horrible. I had tried just about everything. First thing everybody wanted to focus on my SI joint, but I had already had steroids, stem cells, prolotherapy, and physical therapy with no help. I had seen a chiropractor for years and got some relief , but it was very temporary. My MRI was over a year old, but the doctor did not care to order a new one. My first exploratory test should've been my first red flag. I was put under sedation just because they were going in deep under my joint and he did tell me that it was painful. When I woke up from the testing, I was tied to a wheelchair with my neck hanging over. My neck hurt me for days afterwards. I thought it was very strange that I was tied to a wheelchair. Anytime I've had any kind of anesthesia. I've woken up in a bed. I scheduled a follow up appointment and he wanted to know how my pain changed. Honestly, it didn't change much at all. It was better maybe for a couple of hours, but then again that day was not a horrible day pain day . It's very hard to make these appointments when you're pain varies because you make it weeks out not knowing how you will feel that day. I scheduled another appointment for injections that were not going to be quite as intense so I decided against the anesthesia. He came back into the surgery center afterwards and asked me how my pain was, when I didn't have a clear answer, a switch flipped and he was highly annoyed. I tried to explain to him that particular day my pain was not super intense, so it's really hard for me to tell right away. He accused me of not wanting to get better. He turned into a complete unhinged child. Raised his voice at me, screamed at me almost like he was showing off in front of people. It wasn't a flex, I was actually embarrassed for him and I was in total shock. I actually spoke firmly back to him, but I can tell you I did not need the intense adrenal shock by being berated and belittled in front of an audience. The nurse later came in and apologized I could tell she felt really bad and was trying to overcompensate for his behavior. Well, that sealed the deal. There was no way in the world. I was going to let someone with that level of emotional maturity do surgery on me. I'm 51 years old and have NEVER been spoken to like that by a professional. His office called me to schedule my procedure and do some mental evaluation on me with my insurance required prior to the surgery. I just let them know that there was no way I was getting the surgery. I decided to go to my dad's pain management doctor and the first thing he did was order a new MRI. I had a bulge disc at L4 L5 and my SI looked fine. For the first time I decided to get the steroid injection at L4 L5, just so I could know if this was actually where the pain was, my chiropractor encouraged me to do this. For the first time in over 20 years, I had no pain for about three weeks after the injection so I knew that's where it was steaming from. I didn't like the side effects from the steroid injection so I decided not to do another one, for the past six months I've been doing Pilates reformer and I feel about 70% better. I am so glad that I did not get bullied into the surgery. I might not have a medical degree, but I do know my body, and I'm not an idiot. And I will not be spoken to you like I'm a fool. I would do a lot of deep research and also get a second opinion. They tell you that the surgery is reversible, after speaking with another surgeon I don't believe that it I know this is a long review, I tried to make it as short as possible, I read the other one Star review on yelp and I would agree 100% exactly the way they explained his attitude is what I witnessed, very arrogant, God complex like he's the best doctor in the whole world, and nobody knows more than him

I have been going here since 2000. I have had one surgery by Dr. Cannon and 3 by Dr. Shah, so this…read morewill be primarily about Dr. Shah even though my experience with Dr. Cannon in 2001 was the same. I am amazed to see so many one star reviews but realize that people are going in with problems that are painful and not always 100% repairable. I have never experienced the staff issues with either Dr. Cannon or Dr. Shah's staffs. Dr. Cannon did my right shoulder in May of 2001 and I was back to original strength and flexibility as before my damage. In 2008, I had my left bicep detached at the forearm due to me thinking that I was much younger than my years playing volleyball. Dr. Shah re-attached it and the recovery was smooth and complete. In 2010, I tore my left medial meniscus in my knee while bowling. I went back to Dr. Shah and again the results were excellent. He advised me that I have a fair amount of arthritis in that knee so to be aware that there could be ongoing issues. We introduced a treatment of SyncVisc not long after surgery and I have not had any issues since. In 2012, I re-injured my right shoulder (old on the outside, young in the mind). This time to Dr. Shah. The recovery was long being in an abduction pillow, however, with excellent phyical therapy downstairs, I was back to 100% being able to do anything that I used to in time. I re-injured that right shoulder again 18 months ago while working overseas (fall in my apartment) and now finally getting the time to get at it. Today, from the time that I checked in until I saw the doctor was 8 minutes! When does that ever happen? I will get an MRI to check current level of damage but would not think of going anywhere else for my surgery.

And now I'm in more pain. My clavicle is sticking out of my shoulder making me look deformed. The Doctor refuses to make it right without me paying all of my deductibles and out of pocket expenses all over again. Thousands of dollars!

However, I stated to him before the procedure (twice )! already have X-rays and MRI images of my back. I made this aware before my injections. There was no need for the injections. The images I already obtained would have shown surgery could be needed. I asked him to look at the imaging which is why l asked for a second consultation. ****He should have told me this before my injections, not after!**** I feel like I just put a $3000 Band-Aid on my L4 L5 vertebrae. Least they could do is give a refund. Photo attached are my Xray images he deemed unnecessary to look at and his images he showed me as soon as I woke up from being under. This was a scam. Response to comment below: This was never about a guarantee, this was about giving me all the options and looking at the x-rays, which dr gentry deemed unnecessary. Funny how he looked at the X-rays AFTER the procedure to mention surgery but didn't look at the X-rays I had before the procedure.
