This place is A-OK. It is open pretty early for those who, like me, sometimes get to campus a little early to get some work (procrastinating) done.
They offer the typical Austrian cafe variety of coffees, sweets (pastries), and some sandwiches. I have had opportunities to try coffee and pastries here.
Coffee is good. Not the best, not the worst I have had. It is definitely not the worst on campus. If I were to approximate its ranking, I would say that Library Coffee is a little better, and coffee at Mensa is a little worse. This is a good middle ground.
Pastries here are made fresh. I got here early enough today to witness the loading of raw dough into the over, unloading of fresh baked goods, and with the accompanying "ding dongs" of ovens signaling food is ready.
Don't let this excite you too much, the pastries here are only okay. Yes, it does work to their advantage that they are fresh, but I have still had better ones in other small cafes in Vienna. Again, they are not the worst. I have had pastries like this in other locations (namely in the U.S.) that were worse.
Chocolate croissant for instance... Good, but lacked flakiness, and chocolate filling was lacking chocolaty-ness.
Definitely a solid place to grab a cup of coffee and sweet something when you are on campus early. But if you get a to-go cup every day, it may be worth considering other options. read more
