Clinton gave me much more time than promised and shot in several rounds. Between rounds he considered what was and was not working, then adjusted some detail such as lighting or posture. All the while he was good- humored and easy to work with. I find it hard to pose for the camera and it took a while to get head shots that looked natural and suitable. To make a long story short, I paid extra for engagement photos, they sent a very young college girl to take them, they came out TERRIBLE! Then they tried to retouch us with Photoshop and turned us into crayon people, very amateur (email me if you want to see them). A few of the pictures where we're sitting down has my butt crack was exposed, I mean, who would even take that picture? A heads up would have been nice!! The owner offered to take my photos for our reception which came out better, but we still don't have engagement photos that we paid extra for. They offered to take new ones and then disappeared... this was over a year ago. The DJ service was even worse! The guy showed up, and clearly had no experience as a DJ/Master of Ceremonies. The crowd was bored, and everyone left my reception (which started at 6 PM) at 9 PM!! I've gotten so much feed back from my friends and family that despite not wanting to hurt my feelings, said they were totally bored and wish the DJ had played something to make them want to dance. The photos on their website are not what you are going to get. I wish I had paid the $2500 for a real photographer instead of trying to save some money. It's like the old saying goes: "The cheap comes out expensive" or "You get what you pay for"!

About a month ago, I received an email from Heavenly Studios. It was pretty out of the blue; we had…read morenot heard from them since the wedding. They were not thrilled about my review and were hoping I would take it down. Apparently their photography business has been affected by reviews on Yelp. Also, it turns out they no longer offer the DJ package we purchased. I've never had a business ask me to remove a review so I contacted Yelp HQ for help. Yelp HQ thought my review was perfectly fine by their standards. "Yelp exists as a platform for customers to share their experiences, good or bad." They also stated "However, business owners are encouraged to address concerns over Yelp reviews via the site- that they're contacting you separately at all is a little odd." Business owners comment in response to customer reviews on Yelp all the time. If Heavenly Studios has something to say, I think posting a public business comment seems reasonable. So, to make things extra clear... my review was for the DJ PACKAGE. We appreciate that Heavenly Studios went the extra mile to set things right by finding us a new DJ after things with the original DJ fell through. However, even before the first DJ had to back out due to personal reasons, we experienced horrible customer service. Yes, they came through for us at the very end. And yes, we were happy with the DJ at the wedding, but it wasn't exactly flawless.

Viv was immediately our first choice because she has an incredible portfolio of photographing in redwoods and nature which is sometimes very difficult to photograph with the different lighting. We are a bit awkward but from the get go, she was easy to talk to and was also organized. Our wedding was on the casual side so we did not have a planner but Viv was on top of everything and even though we had a day of coordinator, Viv was the one coordinating when it was her time and took lead which was much needed to wrangle everyone. The wedding was a tiny bit chaotic, running behind and rather short but Viv did a fantastic job capturing candid moments and making sure to pull us away for portrait photos away from everyone else before the wedding ended. She was professional and there wasn't a moment where I thought she was distracted. Her work speaks for itself but I really love that she shoots in multiple formats and captures the light and nature around the subjects so clearly and naturally. I often wish our wedding was slightly longer or not running behind because that would have given Viv even more time to take amazing pictures! Becca goes above, beyond, and "Yes, and!"…read more When my guy and I were searching for wedding photographers, we noticed from her galleries that she knew her way around redheads :P and that her candids really captured the character of the people and the energy of the event. When we started talking to her and working with her, we were also really excited and impressed by her creativity and the way she collaborated to expand on our vision. We had some amazingly ridiculous ideas for our engagement shoot and she affirmed AND added to them; she showed the eff up, and drove around Oakland with us, props and costumes in tow (she even responded to a drunk photo-bomber with grace and grit :P) We were shocked at how much fun we had! Both of us are kind of allergic to canned/posed photos, and Becca has an amazing balance of making sure our heads were tilted the right way so the composition still looks good, but not giving sooo much direction that it would be super stiff and awkward. We were cracking up at some of her prompts: "Okay so Lizzy, I want your shoulders turned this way but your energy going that way" and honestly, it worked! She knows how to cultivate a really nuanced and connected experience by describing things really specifically but leaving a lot of room for our playful interpretation and authenticity. On the wedding day, she brought the same balance of flexibility and strength/leadership. I had at least 2.5 meltdowns, and Becca was kind and solid throughout everything.
