This review is for their Hubbardston location - it is the saddest "zoo" I have ever been to. The animals are in extremely small spaces, with limited to no enrichment. For example, the otters have no water to play in, and the fox is in a very small cage under the stairs. It's entirely indoors (except for some lucky owls outside). The inside looks like a partially finished garage, with hard cement floors that are barely covered in straw or old blankets in the enclosures. The animals have no place to retreat to - in many cases the tops of their enclosures are open and children can reach in whenever they want.

Me and my fiancé came here for the first time on Saturday. Everyone we interacted with was so accommodating and knowledgeable to make our experience wonderful. I can't thank everyone enough for making our visit so enjoyable. We did the 1 hour private tour and I got to meet Hazel, the capybara. I got to hold a toucan too. We had so much fun

Great spot for kids to learn about animals and interact with them. The staff are very knowledgeable and excited to provide educational tours. The focus on animal rescue is great.

I came here for my birthday specifically for the Capybara encounter. I saw a video of Hazel online and I had to meet her. Paige took us to meet Hazel and she was friendly and knowledgeable. Then we did a "pick 6" tour. I originally wanted to see the wallaby, but our tour guide Benji recommended something else. I'm so glad he did because I got to meet Splinter the South American paca and he is SO cute!!! Benji also took us to see foxes, armadillos, kangaroo, and the kinkajou. He was also friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to anyone. You can tell they care about your safety as well as the animals.

I took my teenaged son here to have the capybara encounter, and it was great! We loved seeing all the exotic animals they had and interacting with as many as possible, but Hazel the capybara was his favorite by far! He got to feed and play with her during his scheduled encounter, which was well-worth the price! I highly recommend this place and its staff to anyone looking to see exotic animals in New England!

Smaller, more interesting and more personal than any zoo we've visited, Animal Adventures is all about getting really close to a variety of interesting and sometimes exotic animals. Would you like to pet a porcupine, feed an alligator or walk with a tortoise? Then this is your place. They offer general admission starting at $15 which is self guided and includes animal shows, or a variety of private guided tours, where you get to go into the cages and interact with the animals. We selected their 90 minute tour, which provided us with a personally guided tour with a zookeeper assigned to our group of six, and included hands-on introductions to a variety of their animals. Some of their animals include owls, kangaroos, porcupines, foxes, alligators, snakes, armadillos, skunks, wallaby, emu, and more. These can change as Animal Adventures is actually a rescue providing "homes to unwanted and unable to be cared for animals, while educating the public about these animals." We had a great time and spent a couple of hours here, petting a boa constrictor, porcupine (better pet them in the correct direction!), tortoises, emu, goats, lizards, bunnies and more. Our 3 year old companion had a great time, and the adults did too! This is a real gem to visit when in the area, a must see if you like animals.

I'm a little on the fence with this place. When we first pulled up my kids wanted to leave. First impressions definitely weren't the best. The zoo is spread across several buildings and outdoor exhibits. On one hand, there were a ton of opportunities to get up close to various animals. I didn't pay for the guided tour but we ended up having a couple of staff members showing us around and it was almost like a personal tour. My kids loved hearing about the animals and being able to touch so many different ones. The animals were clearly loved and the cages were very clean. When I asked where the animals came from I was told some were from zoos that couldn't care for them, or personal pets turned over. On the other hand, some of the enclosures were clearly inadequate. The large alligators in cramped conditions were the most notable. Some of the animals seemed to be lacking something, maybe mental stimulation or a companion, they need and were exhibiting odd behavior. The zoo felt more like someone's personal animal collection that got a bit out of hand. The animals are also used to travel to schools and other paid events, which could be stressful for anyone. Although my kids loved it, after their initial reaction, I wouldn't return. I generally like to support rescue zoos and the work they do but this just didn't feel that way to me.

Welcome, you will have a blast!

It was clear to me that they really know each of their cats and care for them very well--they took the time to get to know me and understand what I was looking for, and suggested a cat who seemed like the perfect fit. They both were eager to answer all of my many questions throughout the process and even helped me out by dropping my new kitty off since I don't have a car. My girl had a few minor health issues after arriving (most likely due to the stress of moving/change in food) and Susan offered me advice about different things I could try and followed up numerous times to make sure she was settling in okay. The process overall couldn't have been any smoother and I am so appreciative of Guardian Angels and the care and diligence they put into finding good homes for all of their cats. CARMAH or Cat Rescue of Marlborough and Hudson is a rescue organisation which does a fantastic job of adopting out cats. Even during this hectic period of Covid when applications are flooding shelters and rescues, they do a thorough job of reviewing all applications and respond quickly to all inquiries. CARMAH has no bricks and mortar base and so relies on many volunteers and staff to take in unwanted/stray cats and place them in foster homes where they are lovingly kept until forever homes are found. I dealt with Liz, who is the adoption coordinator. She was unbelievably helpful. After everything on my application checked out, and they certainly do contact all your references, she arranged a great virtual visit with my kitty's foster mum. Jennifer was so open and kind and was available for emails and texts. Picking up my new fur baby was done very safely with all safety precautions due to Covid. I could not have been happier on my drive home with my new kitty. She is exactly as she was described. I have seen instances with other shelters where the cat has not matched its description. Since my new kitty has been home, I have maintained the relationship with kitty's foster mum, who has been so gracious and helpful. I also had dealings with Melissa and Brittany, also with CARMAH. Again they could not have been more helpful. So from new kitty and me 10 out of 10 "mewows" for a purr-fact experience.

I was denied due to their belief that a fenced in yard (9ft PVC and unclimbable) is an unsafe area for them to enjoy the outdoors. These types of people would rather treat their pets as objects and keep them under lock in key in a small room rather than allow them the freedom to explore their own nature. I have loved and cared for cats for almost 30 years, never abandoned or given up a cat but apparently I am not capable of caring for them properly. The kicker is that I discovered the kittens that I attempted to adopt living outside underneath someone's stoop and sent them to Carmah for a chance at a better life. I apologize to those babies and hope they make it through the unreasonable and untrustworthy care of Carmah.

Our consult was with Nance, and she was very patient in explaining the process and talking us through some initial things that we were struggling with. Then, we started with a training package that included 3 private training classes and 2 months of group obedience classes. We also went to a few puppy kindergarten classes. Nicole did the majority of our trainings and she has been a god-sent. She is very good with the dogs, and her energy level makes the training classes fun both for us and our dog. We learned a lot from Nicole and she helped us to feel a lot less stressed out and actually enjoy the puppyhood. The obedience class is set up like a monthly subscription, where you can go to as many classes as you want. We end up going about 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes, as it is a great activity to mentally exercise our dog and provide socialization while working alongside other dogs. We also started bringing our dog to their dog day camp 2x a week. Tim was also very patient in explaining the process. The dog day camp has been great in getting her to play with other dogs and allows her to learn obedience from others aside from us.

This was my first time adopting so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect and it was busy the day I went. Everything was very organized and the woman up at the front was lovely and so was everyone that I spoke with up until it was my turn to meet the dogs. They brought the first little guy out (Humphrey who I adopted) and I immediately knew he was the pup for me. He was spunky but I could also tell he was confused and a little unsure. They went over in depth about how he resource guards over food, and I have quite a bit of experience with training a dog out of that behavior. They also went over how he was missing a couple teeth but his health check was clear. After I met Humphrey I told them I was 100% interested in adopting him. The holistic approach was already something I was planning to follow for any dog I was planning to adopt, so the fact that this was a holistic shelter was the icing on the cake! Shirley the owner talks with every potential adopter and she was absolutely lovely. Since then I if I have any questions or concerns regarding anything, I email her and she gets back super quickly. 7 1/2 months later Humphrey has blossomed more the I ever could of imagined and he is truly the light of my life and very trainable. Save a Dog would be the first shelter I would look to for another rescue! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, -Naomi & Humphrey

I don't remember the entrance being as expensive as it was: $38 per person but as a AAA member we scored a $2 discount each. There were three free shows/ presentations going on that day, which were posted on a big dry erase board: bird show, sloth talk, and an earth discovery creature feature. We made 2 out of 3 of them. My favorite was the bird show where they brought out 6-8 unique birds and each of them did a trick for the crowd, all while the trainers gave us fun facts about them. They had bleacher seating so very comfortable show. At the end, they had one bird who could take your money (voluntarily) and put it into a box with its beak. The money was going towards a good cause, so I donated. The sloth talk was also cool. We got to hear interesting facts about sloths and watch the sloth eat their lunch. They were also doing a Frozen skit / play for the kids when we arrived and it was pretty good and kept the kids there engaged. They have a great selection of animals throughout the zoo including large ones like rhinos, giraffes, tigers, and lions but also smaller ones like pigeons, ravens, parakeets, and prairie dogs. I did not go on / into any, but they have an overhead lift you can ride, zip lining, and a maze (not free). There is also a petting and feeding area with goats. One thing I remember there being was a deer park but I think it was closed off this time which was a bummer. For the most part, the zoo is shaded. They also have gift shops, snacks/drinks, and bathrooms throughout the park. We spent about 2.5 hours there, but might've missed a couple animals. The staff is friendly and helped us find our way around. There is a map and it's pretty good but we were just running low on time to make it to one of the events.
