Shear Art Beauty Salon

This is quite a so-so salon. On the one hand, it's convenient and cheap, but on the other it's…read morecheap and unreliable. And yes, I realize I used cheap as a pro and a con. Let's elaborate. Shear Art is pretty simple to get to and notice, being easily spotted on Northmount Drive. They have a nice, bright neon sign advertising their whereabouts and even have a window display of all the things they offer. This includes facials, waxing, hair cuts/colours, updo's, nails, etc. Their prices are a little below average which is pretty nice if you're looking for a quick fix. $8 for eyebrow waxing is among the cheapest I've seen in the city. It's great if you're tight for money but are in dire need of some hair removal or a hair cut. Being cheap also has it's down side. You can tell that it's cheap, which is why it's a negative. The salon doesn't look to be the cleanest I've ever seen with dust bunnies in the corners and hair everywhere. It looks like a below par salon, but the stylists are all professional and good at what they do. And so we come to unreliable. I was in need of a quick trim the other day and remembered how inexpensive Shear Art is. I also remembered that they opened at 10AM, so I decided to head over. It was almost 1045 and the store was still closed. Sadly, they lost a customer that day since I didn't want to wait around in hopes that it was opening that day. I've also had one of the stylists cancel an appointment on me only a few hours before it was scheduled. That's not cool. Shear Art has got it's good and bad, but which one outweighs the other will have to be up to you. For me, I think the bad side of the scale if running a little higher.

I've had better haircuts at home in the Bay Area in California. I'm here on vacation and wanted to…read moreget a trim of my hair. My hair was short, but I wanted it shorter. I wanted to get a #2 on top and #0 skin on the side, your typical fade. I went in, and there was this lady and telling me my hair was already short. I call BS because I know places back home can get it even shorter and that's how I like it. It was only her there. I got on and she used a battery powered trimmer. Didn't even get it down to my skin and didn't cut my hair on top evenly. She probably didn't have the tools, but then again what kind of salon is this? She finished with me because her tools couldn't bring it down even shorter. She said if I wanted it shorter, I'd probably need a razor. AGAIN, I call BS because I've been to other haircut places and they would do an amazing job. After it was all said and done, she charged me $26.25 for a fade that didn't even meet my requirements. YES YOU READ RIGHT. THIS IS NOT A TYPO. $26.25. Back home it would cost me only $8 AND it gets done RIGHT. Needless to say, this will be the first AND last time I get my haircut here. If I visit Calgary again, I'm avoiding this place like the plague.
