I ordered two pies for Thanksgiving (pumpkin and apple crumb), and they were both fabulous with beautiful presentation! I couldn't believe how easy it was for pickup - Phyllis called me as they were coming out of the oven on Wednesday. Where I live (DC area), the pie places have lines around the block for pickup and charge double. I couldn't believe the quality, the prompt and friendly communication, the ease of pickup, and the price. I will absolutely order from here for all baking needs when I'm in the area. I placed a carry out order and was told that it would be ready in 30 minutes. I showed up exactly 30 minutes after getting off the phone, and I was told my food wasn't ready yet. It took an extra 10 minutes after I had arrived on time.. I noticed that the staff were all wearing masks even though the mask mandate is over, which I was glad to see because most of the people working there were very young and probably not vaccinated. My entrée came with a side of pasta, and the sauce reminded me of the sauce you get at church spaghetti dinners. With this being an Italian restaurant that has a chef on staff, I was expecting a red sauce that would be more tasty. If I had to take a guess, I'd say they use those gallon cans of tomato sauce as a base. Perhaps I'm a little bit more picky than most about my red sauce because my mother always made homemade sauce from tomatoes that she canned from her garden. As a visitor from California, I hit Angenetta's twice during this stay. It's a very welcoming place, and the owner, Phyllis is very nice. You can tell it's a hands on place that is well tended to by its owners. During the first visit, we were seated immediately per our reservation. We had an awesome server, Liz ... so friendly, helped answer questions and checked in regularly. That night we saw the dessert case which is all house made and well labeled. Every one is there to help and we walked out with 4 desserts to go. Try the peanut butter cheesecake for a real treat. Everything was good. And please try to go on a night that they have Wedding Soup on the special menu. Every restaurant in Youngstown offers this soup and this one was the best ever had. So fresh. I had two bowls. Tonight's visit again was a pleasure. Phyllis greeted us and remembered us from last week, and we were again seated immediately as we had a reservation. We had Marina tonight as our server and the service was great again. Even the busboy, Nathan, was so nice and the whole place makes you feel like family. The eggplant special was great and luckily they had wedding soup again. I can't believe I missed this in prior visits. Friendly, family like, full of smiles, and the food was delicious. Not impressed with my pork chop entrée...both the pork chops and the vegetable did NOT have a lot of flavor. If I return in the future, I would never order that again. We were up in Canfield for a football game. We had some time to kill. We asked a gentleman out for a walk where to eat and he told us to come here. We went and really enjoyed the food. I was very disappointed and will not order from here again. The restaurant is very small, employees were rude and our dessert was inedible.

Unfortunately, we did not even get to try it. We arrived at 3:40pm (apparently 20 minutes before they opened) even though online it said they were currently open. The doors were unlocked but we were promptly met at the door by a very rude lady who did not even say hello but instead just kept repeating that they did not open until 4. My husband was able to apologize in between her speaking and let her know that we only wanted to get dessert, to-go if necessary. However, she still refused to let us even see the desserts, continuing to simply state that they did not open until 4. There was no sense of warmth, customer service or hospitality. We will never visit again which, by the glimpse of the dessert case, seems a real shame. read more

Let's say you wanted to have a great restaurant. What would you need? I won't keep you in suspense, because this place is the real deal. EVERYTHING they serve is excellent; not just very good. The prices are very reasonable. The staff is friendly and never intrusive. The owners, the Olins, made a splash about 20 years ago with The Emerald Diner in Hubbard (about 10 miles northeast) which set a new standard for how great a little diner could be. They sold that place a while back, and this place in Canfield is more upscale but still casual, and they improved on it. The cuisine is well-balanced, American fare, leaning sometimes towards Italian. Everything on the menu is done right; there are no weak spots that I've encountered with anyone I've dined with here. Tony Olin proves that you can be an honest, hardworking chef, restaurant owner and manager, delivering a super experience with a kitchen staff that only does right. If his prices were twice what they are, the food would still be delicious and of top quality -- so why not keep the prices great if difficult-to-believe? Oh, and by the way, they have a great bakery. And a decent wine list. And they do catering, and they do it all the time. It's difficult to resist going to Angenetta's for a meal whenever I am in Canfield, because the place just is THAT GOOD. They have a large menu with lots of delicious offerings. I ordered the chicken salad with grilled buffalo chicken. It was great - a nice size portion, lots of toppings, and plenty of chicken. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. The ambiance is fairly causal. We went for nice lunch. The only issue I had with the dining experience was the service. It was a tad slow for my liking. My boss and I were in town for work and after reading the reviews fully expected a good meal with all sorts of service rudeness/craziness or some kind of staff meltdown. Alas, it was not to be. The service was great. Our waitress was on the ball and made sure to replenish out beers as needed. The food came out promptly. Four stars for service. The fried cheese was good. I have never seen fried mozzarella in block form before. The rest of the food was pretty good although the Marsala sauce is more watery than I would prefer. I'm absolutely floored by some of the reviews of Angenetta's on here. I've been going to Angenetta's since they opened, and while I no longer live in the area, I still frequently return when I'm in town visiting. Understand that this is a family owned restaurant - which many of the reviewers below seem to forget and expect some 'cookie-cutter' chain on route 224 to be their experience. Perhaps leaving the Youngstown area for a couple of years will help them realize what they're then missing in a place like Angenetta's. As cliche as it sounds, this food is made with love. The men and women in the kitchen are passionate about the food and they are recipes that have been shared for decades. Tony and Phyllis, the owners, are consistently surveying the floor of guests and making everyone feel welcome and like a regular. If there's ever an issue with an order, they're the ones apologizing and taking care of any issues. Located next to Canfield High School, they do then have a lot of young staff, whom are working there as their first jobs, so please be understanding of this -- just like you once worked your first job and probably struggled. I was in there a few weeks ago with my husband and my 7 year old son and had horrible service. We never got water, and no drink refills throughout the meal. We placed our order, and I specifically pointed at the pasta and meatball on the kids menu and asked about the size of the meatballs, in case we wanted to order more. The waitress said that they were a generous size. After she left the table, I saw her in a heated discussion with one of the chefs. She came back to our table to discuss my sons order of Gluten Free pasta (which we did not order). On the heels of her leaving the table, another waitress shows up to discuss the Gluten Free pasta. They finally bring our salad and bread and right on the heels of it, the food came out. They served me and my husband and it took some time for my sons order to come out. She brings over a small bowl of spaghetti with no meatball and when I ask where the meatball is, she said that the chef said no meatball comes with that order. Obviously they don't know the menu there. He started choking and a woman at a neighboring table offered us her water. No one came to see what happened or how he was doing. No one came to check on us after delivering the meal. My husband had to go to the counter to get and pay our bill. I called the next day and was berated on the phone. I tried to tell them what happened, and was cut off. I was called names and accused of trying to get people fired there. All I wanted was someone to listen to what happened. Instead, I was verbally abused and lied to blatantly on the phone. A few weeks later I got a $10.00 gift card in the mail. The worst part is, we ate there regularly. It was my favorite restaurant in the area, and even when we were served raw chicken, our waitress was on top of it and made the dinning experience better.
