Mixed review for Angelo's - we visited on night one and had a phenomenal experience. 6 people and we ordered so much food - every single item was out of this world. My favorite was the lobster - and whatever sour cream/cheese/butter they serve with the baked potato was the stuff loaded potato dreams are made of. Second trip - prices seemed to have doubled and I'm not sure how our bill was so high. Lobster cost 3x as much as the previous visit 48 hours before, and while I understand market prices, that seemed a bit extreme. Also had trouble with our bill after it posted - the restaurant added an additional tip despite us tipping very well in pesos. Overall - great food, but pay attention to your bill. read more

We ordered a salad as well and it was pretty good. The interesting thing was that the salad came with no dressing, there were olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper on the table for you to make your dressing. Since first visiting the island in 2006, Angelo's has been a restaurant I can always rely on for a good meal. Throughout the years it seems that the food in Isla can be hit or miss depending on the season, but they consistently deliver great service and awesome wood fired pizzas. They first set you up with spicy olive and balsamic oils, then bring out a pipping hot rosemary focaccia bread for the table. The menu is fairly lengthy and has a little bit of something for everyone. Pizzas, pastas, grilled steaks, fish, chicken, salads, you name it. The pastas are decent if you really have a craving for some, but to me taste just like the stuff I make at home from a box. I recommend sticking to the pizza here, or the grilled plates which are cooked to order right in front of you next to their wood burning oven. They also have beer, wine, sodas, & mixed drinks, but after drinking on the beach all day we usually stick to non alcoholic beverages with dinner to give our livers a break ;-) This past trip I got their Margherita pizza which was really more of a cheese than your typical mozzarella, basil, and tomato, though still delicious. My husband got grilled steak with veggies that I have to admit I was a jealous of when it came out because it looked and smelled SO good! Prices are in line with what you will find anywhere else on the island, and we were even able to take half the pizza back to the room with us to eat for lunch the next day on the beach which worked out nicely. read more

We usually eat here several times during our vacation. So last night was our first trip to Angelo on this vacation. My wife and I both ordered the Angus ribeyes, medium well. They brought the food out to us and the steaks were rare. We told them we ordered medium well, so they took them back. They were gone a few minutes, and brought the steaks back to us. Once again, the meat was rare. I know some people like their steaks that way, but we don't. It actually turns my stomach. So after the 2nd failure, I wasn't mad, but I no longer had an appetite and neither did my wife. Having blood all over our plates just doesn't do it for us. The waiter said he'd take them back AGAIN. I was like "no, you tried twice, and both times the steaks were rare, we are done. " I also told him he'd better not charge us for non- edible food, and asked for the check. He brought us the check, and charged us for the steaks we couldn't eat. I started arguing with him, and asked to see a manager. He refused, and told us we were paying for the food whether it was edible or not. He also stated he could just keep taking it back to the grille. No sir, you clearly don't know the difference between rare and medium well, and I shouldn't have to send my food back 20 times for you to try and get it right. The fact you and your cooks don't know what you're doing isn't MY fault. So, we are done with Angelo, and after this experience, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. We're here on the island for 11 more days, but we will not be going back now, our EVER. So long Angelo! Wow their food is pretty awesome. The lobster tail was delicious. Their grilled fish fillet was fresh but a little bland. The calamari was good just not what I'm used to because it's not fried. It's sautéed. The risotto was good (they used a lottttt of saffron though). They give you a fresh piece of pita bread baked in the wood stove. Which is delicious. Their beef kabobs are really tasty but we had to send them back to be cooked more because they were super super rare. But they were good. And their grilled vegetables are also amazing. I'm very happy we came here. The service is also great. The staff is kind and helpful. I will definitely be coming back here again. read more

We came here with a group of 6 people and we loved everything about Angelos. The staff were very attentive, especially Alberto! We all enjoyed our food, we got several of the brick oven pizzas, including the pepperoni and prosciutto mushroom pizzas, as well as the lasagna, fettuccini bolognese, Saladin and strip streak. Each dish was delicious and very filling. The place is immaculate and the staff are very friendly. Thank you all, we will be back! read more

Food was ok, some dishes are way better than others. I had the tuna sashimi special encrusted in sesame seeds, came with a side salad. The tuna was awesome, side salad was just ok. We had a group of 12 & asked if we could split the check up before we ordered. We all ordered drinks, guacamole and dinners. After eating our guacamole we asked if we could order more. They tell us they are now out of guacamole.... Then when dinner is finally served one person at our table didn't receive his dinner and as the rest of us are eating cause the server came over to say his was on the way. We were more than half way through our dinners when his was brought over. After dinner the server brought a separate check to the person who did not receive their dinner till most of the table was about done eating, and then one bill for the rest of the table, which before we ordered we asked for separate checks and the server basically told us to deal with it. After about half an hour of sitting there figuring out our bill we could finally pay and get out of there. We will not be going back. read more

This place was great! Mariana was our server, and if it wasn't for her at the host stand showing us the menu, we probably wouldn't have decided to eat here. (Thank you, Mariana!) the spicy oil was great! Spicy though, be careful! My Fiancé had the tuna, which he said was the best he's ever had, and even got me to finally try it! It was good! We got the tomato mozzarella and it was awesome! The tomatos were so ripe and perfect! I got the margarita pizza and it was delicious. Food was great(!) but Mariana truly made our night. She was so funny and sweet, made sure we enjoyed everything and even made sure we got out according to our time restrictions (the ferry). Thank you! When we came in, we specifically asked if they had real Italian grounded sausage. A manager by the name of Guadalupe told us yes, and told us their restaurant is an authentic Italian restaurant. I then proceeded to ask the manager if the ground sausage was slice salami (Mexican style) because we already had that problem on the island few days ago and we do not wanted to be serve the "Mexican Italian Sausage". The manager (Guadalupe) said she knew what we were talking about and no, they do not serve the Mexican sausage and not to worry because they are authentic Italian pizza. We asked about it TWICE and she even repeated twice to us about real Italian grounded sausage. Once they serve our pizza, we notice it wasn't what we order! Right away we called the manager (Guadalupe) and she became very defensive and disrespectful towards us -as their customers- and basically she refused to listen to us and said: "This IS what we use here in Mexico!, if you don't like it I will take the pizza back and I won't charge you for it!". I then ask her if "she" was the manager and she says yes! I then told her politely as a customer we asked twice if they had real Italian grounded sausage and even show her a picture of what it looks like in case of any doubts and she even told us this establishment is authentic Italian pizza and still she came back with the Mexican -what they called- Mexican sausage and that is wrong because she misrepresented the restaurant owners and was giving false advertising just to get us inside their doors and that was not right. The manager (Guadalupe) got into an argument with me instead of understanding the customers needs and basically shut us off and walked away!!! I then ask her for our tab and her name however, the way she gave us her name it sounded like she lied to us too about her real name so hopefully the owners take a close look at their employees and correct this problem for future customers! It is obvious this is NOT an authentic Italian pizzeria and everyone should know about it!! read more

Tax evasion - alert I had a bad experience: when I asked for an invoice, I was told I had to pay 16% of VAT if I wanted the invoice, when the law in Mexico said clearly that it can not be done, in restaurants the price must include the VAT, a business who asks this, it is clearly evading taxes and declaring less income than it actually is. The food is good (considering), the service is average but evasion is a crime and does nothing to develop the region, please, tourist, if you like Mexico do not contribute to these schemes your damaging the local economy.
