I have been taking my daughter here for over a year. She has learned so much and completed several projects. My younger daughter also stays here during the lessons and just hangs out with the girls. Aside from learning to sew, it's also a great opportunity for them to socialize with other girls and get in some "girl time". Fabric and other supplies are available for purchase separately. I find this to be super convenient rather than having to go somewhere and buy them as I'm a single dad and am totally out of my element in a fabric store. I appreciate everything that Lisa does for my girls. She makes it easy for me as all I need to do is drop my girls off and I know they're in trusted hands for two hours each week. I get text message reminders the day before and if there's a problem, I can take her on a different day. Lisa is always willing to accommodate. My daughter has been going to Angel Threads Sewing School for over 3 years. She loved it so much that I was inspired to go, too. I've been going for over 2-1/2 years. Lisa encourages everyone to start with a simple project, so my daughter started with pajamas. My first project was a tote bag. These initial projects give the student the chance learn the basics of sewing. After the initial project, Lisa lets the student select whatever project they want, as long as it is within their abilities. If she feels that a student isn't stretching themselves enough, then she will suggest that they try something where they can learn a new skill. I have worked up from that initial project into making complex dresses and jackets (see the pictures I've posted as examples). My daughter and I both have also been successful in using the skills gained from Lisa to start and complete sewing projects at home. She also has helped us adjust the patterns to ensure a better fit. Basically, these are the things that I love about Angel Threads Sewing (besides obviously learning to sew): 1. Flexibility in projects. Some sewing places restrict you to a specific project. I like that we can choose what we want to work on. Lisa somehow makes this work, with everyone working at different stages of different projects at the same time. 2. Flexible scheduling. I like going the same day each week, because it works for my schedule. But, my daughter's schedule is a bit trickier, so I like that I'm able to schedule a different day each week for her, if necessary, or let her skip a week or two. She just picks up where she left off. Sometimes, she goes twice in the same week if she's trying to finish a project. And, sometimes, we go together. 3. We have fun in our lessons. I go to an adult lesson, and it's a relaxed atmosphere where we have conversation while we work. But, I find that Lisa really shines when it comes to working with the kids. She's patient with the kids (some of whom are at a tricky age), and they all love her. My daughter and I look forward to our sewing lessons. If you are looking for an awesome place to learn to sew (or maybe get some help on a tricky project you've started or want to start), then I would recommend this sewing school. If you want to learn the craft of sewing, do not, I repeat DO NOT go to Angel Threads Sewing School. I'm not sure what the owner is teaching but it's not sewing. She hands out bowls of popcorn and has the students watch videos during these overpriced 2 hour lessons. Want to learn to read a pattern? Not here! Want to actually use a pattern? Again, not here! Want to learn to sew a button hole? You know what I'm about to say, right?? Yep, you guessed it. NOT HERE! In fact, this place doesn't even teach students to thread a sewing machine! This is basic stuff, people. Instead, students are given a very narrow choice of items they can make such as pillows, tote bags, and pajama bottoms. If you want to choose your own item to create, no such luck. Other items require a pattern, and as we've already established, patterns aren't used here! What this owner will do for you? Require you to purchase a package of 4 lessons up front at the hefty price tag of $180, and then do everything imaginable to get you to burn through those lessons as quickly as possible. Sure, she'll tell you the lessons can be used as your schedule permits, but then proceeds to text you every single week scheduling them FOR you. But wait, it gets better! If you do not respond to those texts, you will be charged for those lessons anyway. You read that correctly. She provides NO service and then keeps your money. If you see a pattern above (and it's the ONLY one you'll see in relation to this "school"), you're correct. It is all about the money at this place. If you are unfortunate enough to purchase a package, prepare yourself to receive regular solicitations to purchase products and extras. You can guarantee you'll be asked to purchase a sewing machine. Not to mention a $30 tote bag with a self-promotional Angel Threads Sewing logo splashed all over the front. Even their fabric is overpriced at $30-$35 per yard. OUTRAGEOUS!! If you want to truly learn to sew, I recommend you check out Rosanna at Orange County Sewing Lessons. Much more reasonable prices AND you will actually learn to sew! Lessons can be purchased individually as you go. She knows her craft and teaches it well. YOU decide what you'd like to make and she will guide you through it. UPDATE: Since I posted my review the owner of Angel Threads has clearly taken steps to falsely improve her overall rating. I had my first class today with my friend. We both purchased coupons from Plum District. We both made a pair of PJ's. The instructor was very upbeat and ready to help. You basically work on your own projects and get help as you need it. I am pretty much a beginner with some minimal experience as a kid. I can see enjoying learning in this friendly environment. It is almost like going to your girlfriend's house to sew together. The studio is in a cute residential area. It is very charming and french. I wish the space were a bit bigger, but she sure makes it work in there. If only I could get my house to work that well. read more

My Daughter Zoe has been going to Lisa's "Angel Threads Sewing School" now for a few months. She has created items that Zoe chose! Zoe is now on her 4th project. Each project Zoe shopped for both the pattern and fabric from our local JoAnn's Fabric's and took to Lisa to make. Lisa also has fabric and patterns available at the school. Zoe has learned how to use patterns, has learned to thread and use the sewing machine. I am so very proud of her and Lisa. Angel Threads Sewing offers a unique experience for anyone wanting to learn to sew or just looking for a fun way to spend a few hours doing something that you might otherwise do in solitude. I've sewn since I was a teenager but it is so much more enjoyable to go to a place where I can do something I love with other people. And Lisa is great with kids - always engaging them and patient. She makes it a fun place for them. I feel compelled to refute the claims of another reviewer who gave a poor review. What Lisa provides is a cozy, inviting and fun atmosphere with all the tools and supplies you need to create your project. Yes, she does start out new students with very simple projects like tote bags or pajama bottoms, but once the basics have been learned, she allows and even encourages students to choose more complex projects. She does review what that project might be and will give advice prior to proceeding if she feels it may be too complicated for the students skill level. Yes, she does let students know they can buy a sewing machine from her if they don't have one. She has years of experience using a variety of machines and knows what works best. If a student declines a machine, she still gives guidance and recommendations for what to look for and avoid when buying any machine. She does have shelves full of fabrics for purchase - not at $30-35 per yard as one reviewer posted - but at $8-10 per yard (most fabrics). There are some more expensive fabrics as well - upholstery types, silky fabrics and heavier weight fabrics for suits, etc but you would expect to pay higher prices at the fabric store for these. None of these additional items she sells are required. Lisa is providing convenience when she sells machines and fabrics. If you want to spend your time going to the store and buying them yourself, have at it. I have personally witnessed many a parent who is all too happy to not have to take their child to the fabric store to buy supplies and GRATEFUL to Lisa that she provides what is needed. Lastly, the negative reviewer took issue with the cost of the classes. If you break it down, each 2-hour class is $45 (or $22.50/hr). How many things can you think of that charges such reasonable rates? I know of some parents who pay that much or more to babysitters! Yes, she calls weekly to schedule the next class. If she didn't, I might forget. Everyone is so busy these days and I for one appreciate that Lisa keeps me on schedule. The claim that you get charged if you don't reply is completely false. If a student is sick or unable to come to class because of a conflict, Lisa reschedules. She just needs to be notified. She will charge for a class session if a student schedules a class but does not show and has given no notice they can't be there. To me, that seems fair and reasonable. I bought a coupon from online. She gave me her number, but she never picks up my call when I call her. She will call back, if she wants. The communication is only single direction. I went once. She called me the week after that, I was in school and pretty busy.So I could not make it. I told her I would call her later. I called her in the last month before expiration day, but she did not pick up my call. I left voice message, she never call back. There were still several weeks before the expiration day. She took the unilateral decision to stop the contract one month earlier. So I ended up going once only, even though I paid $80. Regardless of how long the coupon acclaims to be valid, the undercover rule is she expects you to finish your four classes in a row. If you don't follow it, she will not call back. read more

To be honest-I feel like my weekly sewing class at Lisa's is a therapy session in disguise. I am new to the area and was looking to get my sewing skills a bit father then just a VERY BASIC level. I found Lisa' website and gave her a call. The beauty of having lessons here is that it can be an 'anything and everything' kind of lesson. I first wanted to work in my hand embroidery skills. I showed Lisa some ideas and we went from there. She has an amazing knowledge of things, be it 'how to', where to get things like supplies (or a particular thread you might have seen) or how to start a project. I quickly decided I wanted to try and tackle something harder so I managed to make pj pants. I have been learning how to read patterns, make small adjustments to them and even tackle bigger projects that I never thought I could do. The 2 hour adult weekly classes are pretty freeform-you pick your project, and Lisa will help you be successful. I totally recommend this for anyone who (1) really wants to learn to sew in a relaxed environment and (2) needs a great 2 hour mental break and wants to learn a new skill in the meantime. Lisa is so engaging and supportive-she will have you sewing like a pro in no time. Classes are bought in 4 packs-but it's not use it/lose it situation. I read another review that said this but I haven't found that to be the case. There have been some weeks I have had to skip-and I can easily arrange that with Lisa, it's never a problem.
