ZERO STARS IF I COULD. Absolutely disgusting experience…read more I would strongly caution against anyone from having United Environmental brought into their home as part of an insurance or mitigation claim. I did not personally seek out or select United Environmental. They were brought into my home by another mitigation company after a flood and I was trusting of the process to a fault. I understand that the authorization I subsequently signed created a direct contractual relationship between United Environmental and me. However, after this experience, I would never voluntarily use this company again. From the beginning, United knew this was an insurance claim. My signed paperwork identified insurance for billing and authorized direct insurance payment. I was not given any paperwork prior to the work that detailed the price or what was considered authorized work. United ultimately submitted a bill for approximately $7,800. My insurance did not simply refuse to pay the bill. Because of concerns regarding United's scope and pricing, my adjuster had the charges independently evaluated by TWO separate abatement companies. The first independent company estimated the work at approximately $3,300. A SECOND independent comparison from PW Stephens Environmental, which came in higher at approximately $4,600. Rather than choosing the cheaper estimate, My adjuster paid based on the HIGHER independent estimate in an effort to reach a fair valuation. There was no attempt from United Environmental to reach a mutual agreement. They claim to have been 'ignored' but I have copies of ALL the emails sent to them asking for reasonable time to get comparative quotes. NO insurance pays exactly what you what just because you want it. Welcome to the world where healthcare can't keep people alive. Peep the dates and times on these text messages treating me, the homeowner with ZERO time to work through it. Thursday at 4 pm to pay them in full by Sunday. One full working day to figure it out or pay over 4k out of pocket. Notice she also claims 'for transparency' the owners of the company were included in her threats, but then in later messages she claims the insurance emails went to the 'owners' which is why she wasn't getting them. Thought they were transparent? Seems like the owner can text and threaten clients... obviously forwarding emails is beyond her skill sets. So from my perspective, this was not simply an insurance company looking for the cheapest possible contractor or refusing to pay a covered claim. USAA obtained two independent professional evaluations, chose the higher of the two, and then communicated directly to United that the second assessment confirmed its findings regarding what it considered the reasonable scope of work. United demanded I personally pay approximately $3,200 of the disputed difference and filed a legal intent to place a mechanics lien against my home if I don't. That is the part of this experience that I find absolutely disgusting. I fully understand that contractors deserve to be paid for legitimate work. I also understand that my contract contains language making me responsible for certain amounts insurance does not cover. I am not claiming otherwise. My issue is that this is not simply a situation where my insurance policy excluded part of an accepted bill. There is a documented dispute over the scope and valuation of the work, supported by two independent abatement companies, and I am now the homeowner being pursued for thousands of dollars in disputed charges. It is incredibly upsetting to have a company brought into your home after property damage, during an already stressful insurance claim, only to later find yourself facing demands for thousands of dollars and threats involving a lien against your home when two independent industry comparisons reached substantially lower valuations. And I have the documentation. I have United's estimate, the comparative estimates, my signed agreement, and USAA's written correspondence explaining its position. This review is not about simply refusing to pay a bill. It is about how I have been treated after a legitimate, documented dispute arose over that bill. United Environmental may not have been a company I personally selected in the first place, but after this experience, I can say with absolute certainty that I would never choose them in the future. Zero stars. I would never recommend United Environmental to a homeowner dealing with an insurance claim.
