Dr. Garg was straightforward and honest. He also was able fit me in for a consultation and MRI on my right knee in one day. I eventually discovered that my ACL was torn and MCL was partially torn. We talked through surgery and physical therapy options and I had clear next steps and an appointment with a surgeon within two days of contacting Dr. Garg's office. After three months of experiencing pain in my wrist and visiting another orthopedic doctor, I finally went to Dr. Garg and was pleasantly surprised by the doctor's professionalism and courtesy. A treatment plan was very clearly explained to me and was very accommodating. For the course of my PT, the doctor has been in constant communication with my PT specialist outside of this clinic. I've seen Dr. Garg twice for rib and back pain (one initial visit and one follow-up), plus a trigger finger problem. He's clearly very busy but took the time to diagnose me thoroughly (found something that had been missed by other providers), and also sat down, looked me in the eye, and took the time to answer all the questions I could throw at him. Dr. Garg is fantastic. I came in after slicing my knee open in an odd ski accident. And while I clearly had to skip out on the rest of my skiing for the season, I had too many other activities booked (marathons) to sit still. Dr. Garg had me in PT within 10 days, and has been pushing me back to full activity since. I, and all my friends, are shocked at how quickly I've been able to recover. I've been in the office many times, and think I've waited a total of five minutes for all visits combined. I've never had trouble scheduling an appointment. And Dr. Garg guided me to a fantastic physical therapist. I certainly hope I don't have to see Dr. Garg too often... but when the rest of my bozo friends hurt themselves, I know where I'll send them. read more

I had a terrible and costly experience with Dr. Garg. I went in for chronic hip pain. After the initial x-ray, he drew my diagnosis in stick figure form on a paper towel. He asked me no questions about my routine, my work, my exercise or any injuries. He was aloof and dismissive from the start. I should have followed my gut and changed doctors immediately. I didn't. After getting an MRI, he informed me briefly at a follow-up visit that I had tendinopathy in my my hip. I didn't. After changing doctors due to his termination, turns out I have arthritis and a labral tear. However, because he diagnosed me with tendinopathy, he was then able to prescribe a costly procedure which made him quite a bit of money. It is called Tenex and did nothing, obviously, since I didn't have the problem for which the procedure is intended to relieve. It was $1300 after insurance. Thank god I didn't choose the other procedure he recommended which was not covered by insurance at all. After the procedure, he gave me no information on recovery time or limitations. I asked these questions and he informed me I couldn't work for a week or exercise for the three weeks. This was verbal, there was nothing in written form about the recovery. Dr. Garg was fired from his practice shortly after all of this happened, coincidentally. He didn't lose his license but apparently his methods were so questionable, the other doctors in his practice no longer wanted to be associated with him. Obviously, AVOID. read more

Dr Garg did put me in touch with an excellent PT, but I was dissatisfied, overall with him. While I appreciate that Ortho docs need to be careful about over-prescribing pain medication, even though he just saw me, he refused to prescribe Vicodin, even though I was in tremendous pain, actively engaged in a PT program, and seeking further treatment from a neurosurgeon, and I was about to go on vacation for a week. I ended up needing to go to urgent care clinics every week (because those places will only write pain scrips large enough for about a weeks' worth of pain medication) until my surgery date. That shouldn't have been necessary. read more

The first time I saw Dr. Garg, He did not ask me, first, what was going on in my body, instead he showed me a stick figure and was pointing to areas on there, some of which correlate to my pain and other areas didn't (based an a xray he saw). When I got up to show him areas on my body that didn't correlate and also get clarification, he yelled at me and told me to sit down and be quiet, when I stood up to show him where I was feeling pain in my body (he refutes that he was yelling at me - let's just say that he raised his voice and scolded me - I was there and I experienced it - He says that he respectfully disagrees, which means that he has no awareness that he was being condescending and humiliating in his approach). He recommended that I get an MRI in my lower back, which I appreciated, because I think that was the right recommendation, but the whole time he had a scolding condescending tone in his voice and was treating me like I was bad and wrong for trying to tell him all of the areas of concern in my body (including tendonitis in my arms, possibly caused by Cipro). I wrote a review about my experience under "Chicago Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine." The second time I saw him, he was nicer to me. He didn't talk down to me, like before. I thought, good, maybe this guy was just having a bad day. He recommended that I see a pain management specialist. After that, I had a meeting with that pain management specialist that he recommended, for my lower back. I am waiting for an appointment to get injections. I went back to him a 3rd time because I wanted to talk to him about pain elsewhere - in my neck, left shoulder, mid back and between my shoulder blades (these are the areas that I tried to discuss with him the first time), because I thought it might be good to get an MRI in those areas to see what is going on. He seemed perturbed that I was trying to describe several areas of pain in my body and asked me to talk about them, one at a time, (he indicated that I was wasting his time to talk about all of this and that he had a lot of patients to see). He indicated that he had already told me to go to a pain specialist and that he was not the right person, and that I needed to go back to that person. Once again he had a scolding condescending tone in his voice. I thought the specialist he recommended was only for my lower back, and that I first needed to be evaluated by Dr. Garg. He acted like I should have known that I didn't need to come to him first. Or that I didn't know the pain I was experiencing in other areas of my body were all related to the spine, only, and that he would not be the person to go to (orthopedic doctors deal with issues of disorders of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and skin - my issues fall in that category, so how was I to know not to come back to see him for the other problems). Originally, when I told my primary doctor about my pain, she recommended an orthopedic doctor, so that is who I thought I needed to go to, to evaluate the other areas of pain, and Dr. Garg was the only one I could see about it, who is within my insurance network. So I assumed I need to to go see him about this, also. He said that it is very unlikely that having this many places of pain in my body would be separate problems, and so therefore I do not need to get an MRI of my mid back and shoulder areas. When I said, but it could be something else, and an MRI of those areas might be a good way to find out, he said, "how could there be so many different problems in all of these areas in your body?" I said "Old Age?," and he said that that is very unlikely, that the pain and stiffness in my shoulder is most likely caused by problems in my neck (I didn't know that, but he acted as if I should). He recommended I only get it for my neck. Okay, it made sense after he told me that, but again, how was I supposed to know that, and what is wrong with me suggesting getting an MRI for those other areas? He made it appear as if it were wrong to assume that, or ask about it. He told me that our personalities are not compatible. Yes I agree - anyone who can tolerate a scolding, condescending tone of voice will get along fine with him. You would also need to speak to him about only one problem in your body at each visit, because apparently, he has a hard time dealing with multiple issues. He said not to ever see him again. When he walked out of the room, I felt humiliated and angry to be talked to in that manner. Tears rose in my eyes and I cried for a while. read more

I saw Dr. Aneesh once and I am not going to see him again. He gave me steroids knee injection and did not tell me about side effects, even though I asked him. He mumbled about temporary pain and possible infection. I got anxiety, insomnia, weakness and hormonal changes. Found later that most people have it. Its impossible that he did not know about it. I think he just cared about making sell, so he could bill insurance company. Dr. Garg and his team did an excellent job of listening compassionately and providing solid recommendations, clear explanations and sound treatments. In March I saw Dr Garg for a strain calf. I was training for a half marathon in Nashville and began to feel pain in my left calf. Dr Garg put me on a soft boot and told me I would feel better in 10 days. He also had me attend physical therapy at Novacare in Lincoln square. I had stopped my training for 1 month and was very worried I wouldn't make the half marathon. But with the help of Dr Garg and the great guys at Novacare, I made my half marathon and I feel awesome. Glad I was introduced to Dr. Garg by a former patient. He treated me for a radial head fracture, communicating clearly and concisely from my first visit. He created a treatment plan and checked in with me frequently to ensure I was healing appropriately and gaining mobility at each phase of recovery. Dr. Garg and his staff were great. This was my first visit. After X-rays, Dr. Garg reviewed them with me (thankfully confirming no structural problems.) Evaluated movements to determine problem and prescribed PT, which is already going great. Made sure I understood everything before leaving. Dr. Garg is a serious downgrade from my other Ortho, but unfortunately that Dr doesn't deal with hip issues. Dr. Garg sent me to pt for six weeks with a wobbly diagnosis after which I was still in the same amount of pain. He then sent me for an MRI with contrast. The MRI doctor had to inject me with dye through the area that hurts and when I reported back to Dr. Garg how much it hurt and how severe my pain was after his response was "It shouldn't have hurt..." Well it did! Upon seeing my results and the MRI he concluded that my abductor was the cause of my pain and wanted to do a laproscopic surgery. HOW IS THAT ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS RECOMMENDED?! When I should apprehension he was almost forceful. Nope! I went and got a second opinion. That doctor informed me that Dr. Garg likes to recommend Tenex as a first course of action often. She also informed me that my injury would not improve with the surgery suggested. I am still furious, but also not surprised since I never felt heard by him for the four (?) appointments. I'll never go back to him and I suggest you never start. read more

Dr. Garg is the best. he treated me twice in the past year. once for my broken left knee, and most recently for my severe tendon pain (and slight tear) in my right elbow. i could say so much about his attentiveness and care for my well-being, but that will be immediately obvious to anyone who is treated by him. he loves what he does, he is passionate about it, and he is deeply devoted to his vocation. most recently, he worked serious wonders with my elbow, which had been causing me pain for almost 3 years, and was becoming unbearable. in only 3 short months, i am well on my way to a full recovery. again, this is an injury that had worsened over the course of 3 years, and previous attempts by other doctors in that time were unsuccessful. Dr. Garg chose to use PRP therapy with my injury. 3 injections in 3 weeks, followed by 3 weeks of very limited use, followed by PT for 3-4 weeks, and i am amazed by and SO grateful for the results i am currently experiencing! thank you thank you THANK YOU, Dr. Garg. you are a gem in the medical world and i am blessed to have been guided your way! read more

I saw Dr. Garg after about 6 months of knee pain after a fall. I was recommended to him after attending a PT session since I was an active athlete before this knee injury. I felt completely dismissed by him and his male assistant/student that was in the room. He did several quick exercises with me and laughed at the way I was doing some of them which made me feel completely uncomfortable. He dismissed my questions about his diagnosis right away and I overheard him talking about me with his student when he walked out of the room. I understand it must be difficult to get through many patients in a day but it's important to hear your patients and their worries since most of the time we don't have the medical knowledge to advocate for ourselves. I wouldn't recommend Dr Garg to anyone, but specifically to women, as he seemed very condescending through my whole experience. read more

First visit he talked to me about side business, athletic, sports clothing. Wanted to know about my knowledge of investments.
