My journey to iOrthoBIOLOGIX began in July, 2015, at 63 years of age, with chronic, excruciating, bone-on-bone pain caused by osteoarthritis. It was debilitating. I sought the only solution I was aware of at the time - a steroid shot. In late August I attended a clinic in California for unrelated reasons. During an education session we were told about Platelet Rich Plasma injections (PRP) and stem cell transplants. I opted to have a PRP treatment done on my knee and was pleasantly surprised with the results. My knee was comfortable for about four months, then the pain gradually returned, until by the end of February 2016, it was excruciating, leaving me barely able to walk. I looked for someone in our area that did PRP and met a doctor that also did stem cell transplants, so my focus switched to that. In the spring of 2016, after recovering from arthroscopic surgery performed to "clean up" my knee, I had the transplant. One or two injections were administered into the joint. Unfortunately, the doctor that performed the procedure passed away unexpectedly. There was some relief after the procedure, but honestly, I was a little disappointed with the results. Still a believer, though, I had heard there was a doctor in Charlotte doing this kind of work, and I tracked down Dr. Tucker, leaving a message asking him to call. He returned my call that evening after hours and spent at least forty-five minutes talking with me, honing in on bone bruising as one of the main causes of the pain. I had my first face-to-face consult with Dr. Tucker in October 2016. He was thorough, patiently showing me ultrasounds and explaining my issues. His exam was gentle and his manner caring and informative. He explained the various procedures and the steps involved in performing them. I had MRI's done in November, and Dr. Tucker presented me with a detailed proposal outlining several options. He took the time to explain the pros and cons of each option, allowing me to make an informed decision. In November, I was also fitted with off-loader braces, designed in my case to help relieve the pounding on the inside of my knees that caused the problem. The plan was for me to start wearing them immediately. We were never able get the braces to fit properly, but not for lack of many adjustments on the part of Dr. Tucker and his bracing specialist Justen. They ultimately fitted me with a different style brace. I mention this "semi-fail" just to make the point that Dr. Tucker looks beyond the obvious and tries to address the problem in totality. On Valentine's Day, 2017, Dr. Tucker harvested cells from my pelvis and my abundant adipose tissue. He processed the products in his lab and injected them into my knee, doing multiple injections into the soft tissue between the joint and into the bone at the sites of the bone bruises. The post-op plan was well-thought out and clearly explained. The office followed up to make sure all was well and made themselves available for questions. This also applied to rehab. They had a strategic plan and communicated it to the physical therapist, requiring regular updates. Initially, I did not respond as well as expected, possibly due to the fact that I have Type 2 diabetes, so I opted to have what Dr. Tucker calls a "fertilizer". Since my response to the initial treatment was slow, Dr. Tucker was aggressive with this, again focusing on the bone bruising. It has worked! I am almost totally pain free, can easily move about my daily activities, can easily care for my grandchildren, and am becoming stronger every day as I do my rehab exercises. As exciting as physical healing has been, the real delight has been interacting with Dr. Tucker and his team. His staff has always been pleasant and helpful, especially Tara helping me with the paperwork I needed. Dr. Zeckser examined me once, and he too was friendly, gentle, and communicative. There is a young man, whom I have never met, always busy in the lab. And of course, Dr. Tucker and Justen could not have done any more to make my experience a good one. In 2014 while playing soccer I completely tore my ACl, tore both sides of my meniscus and had significant bone edema in my femoral condyle. I received the traditional orthopedic surgery using a hamstring tendon to replace the ACL, had both meniscus shaved down and micro fractures done on the femur bone. After the procedure, my surgeon and Physical Therapist told me at the time that I would never play soccer again. In December of 2015 my surgeon elected to re-do the microfractures as the original attempt did not produce the needed results. In August of 2016 I received a series of Synvisc injections as I was still experiencing pain, discomfort and inability to perform my desired day to day tasks and athletic activities (I was unable to run and jump). I injured my ankle a long time ago. I am 46 now, originally injured in high school and have been dealing with this since I was 31. I've been diagnosed with everything from Gout, to Rheumatoid Arthritis to end stage Arthritis of my ankle. My life was so limited, when I came in everyday I was having some real pain. I was hurting so much I didn't feel like going to get food or anything. Pretty excruciating because I do construction and climb roofs. It got so bad I was eating ibuprofen. I had previously talked with Infinite Wellness for similar treatment. Dr. Tucker was more intensive in his analysis of my right knee and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Physician that spends all his time and focus doing Stem Cell treatments. This knee had been scoped 3 times, with knee replacement in the future. Avoiding knee replacement was my main goal. I had been experiencing pain in my left shoulder off and on for about five years (I am left handed, so I do everything with my left). About two years ago the pain in my shoulder became very intense and was occurring every six months. Each time the pain would last about two months gradually disappearing and then occur again after six months. When it first occurred, I went to a doctor who told me it was a torn muscle in the shoulder and that I needed surgery to correct the problem, but that the muscle would probably tear again. In January of 2017, the shoulder pain happened again and I went to another doctor who basically told me the same thing. I did not opt for the surgery but I decided to do some research on alternatives. I had a terrible fall in April 2016. I fell off some steps, landing directly onto concrete. I twisted my right knee in every direction and tore almost everything inside of it. I came to Dr. Tucker with a torn hip labrum complicated by a cyst that had developed. I also suffered from an old tendon injury in my quadriceps of the same leg. It had taken 4 months to be properly diagnosed and in that time I had tried everything from soft tissue treatments, regular chiropractic treatments, physiotherapy, shockwave therapy and dry-needling, but nothing helped and I was in constant pain that went from my lower back, through the hip and extended down my leg. My husband had successful treatment at iOBX many years ago. Dr. Tucker's stem cell procedure left me with a much better knee...so glad I went through with it. I had meniscus tears, loose ACL, bakers cyst etc... one unstable knee that would "swell up" after intense exercise, never really draining and creating a feeling of "presence" on a daily basis. 12 weeks post stem cell procedure and 3 weeks post booster (stemish) and I feel like I have a new knee, meaning I hardly feel it at all...the way it should be. Doctor Tucker and his team aren't like your ordinary medical staff. To say they go over and above to make sure you're taken care of would be the understatement of the century. They actually care about you as an individual and create the treatment that suits your needs. They check on you afterwards to see how you're progressing and let you know if you need to make any changes whether it be medication, how your brace is fitting and when to wear it, etc. They did an excellent job not only with me, but my parents as well. I had multiple issues going on at the same time, a hip labral tear being the primary issue. I received significant relief from my stem cell injection by Dr. Tucker, and he was also able to identify some issues with my iliopsoas that previous regenerative medicine doctors had missed.
