Dr Rosenbaum recently removed a plate and screws that had been implanted in my ankle after I broke my fibula last year. The plate and screws had become quite painful and were causing significant irritation. Dr. Rosenbaum explained the procedure to me ahead of time and, due to the extent of the surgery, it was thought that I would be unable to walk on that leg for at least 2 weeks. When I had the plate and screws implanted a year ago (by a different surgeon) I was unable to walk on it for 6 weeks which, for me, was torture so I was not looking forward to being out of commission again even if the duration would be 1/3 of the time of the prior surgery. I showed up at the surgery center where everyone I encountered was extremely friendly. The surgery began ( I was given general anesthesia so I was asleep). I awoke to find that Dr. Rosenbaum had used a different technique than originally planned and the surgery was actually less invasive than planned. Thanks to the skill of Dr. Rosenbaum, and his willingness to alter the plan, the incisions were smaller that the one larger one I had expected an, because of that, I was able to walk on my leg the next day! I highly recommend Dr. Rosenbaum not only for his obvious skills but also for his flexibility in doing what is best for the patient. Hopefully you will never need foot/ankle surgery but if you do Dr. Rosenbaum is the doctor to see! I've been reluctant to write this but as it's Boston Marathon week and I went to Dr as a semi elite runner still in my mid 40s (1:16 half as example), raising multiple thousands for cancer charity in honor of my deceased dad and no longer can run, here are my thoughts. Nice guy, great bed side manner, but that's it for positives. I came to him in the fall of 2022. I had left heel pain and showed a heel spur. I tried rest, PRP, etc and still hurt. After meeting with Dr, he recommended surgery. I asked if this would impact my running career and he said no and recovery would just be a few months. With that I agreed. Got surgery end of Oct 2022 and said I would be back in Boston for marathon in April. Months go by and go to PT and my inside heel hurts. Whitney sees me and says recovery can be 12 months (never discussed by Dr). I see Dr and he says no idea why hurt. Have to go back for surgery in Sept 2023. Now he recommends to remove bandage in 2 days. I do and a week later blow a hematoma (more than a pint of blood on floor and I turn white and collapse). I see him and he confirms and doesn't know why. No cleaning. I get infected. Few weeks go by and another surgery to clear infection. Eventually start PT and therapist sees weird stuff and hematomas. Sutures emerge. Dr needles me and confirms hematoma. Eventual incision opening and stays open for 3.5 months. Dr even jokes I should be a nurse for keeping clean but does nothing to see why. Now heel is still open and eventually I see plastic pieces. The anchor screws from Arthrex are coming out. MRI confirms a popped anchor. July of 2024 now having 4th surgery. Dr Rosenbaum recommends bandage removal after a week and I don't want to but he insists so I do. Skin gets compromised and eventually pieces of antibiotic beads come out for days. Scab develops. He says fine. Well it wasn't because when scab removed I have a huge dent in my heel. Eventually he has no idea why I hurt still so I see another ortho in practice and he promised to come up with a plan. I never hear from him again. My guess is he gets so many patients because he's easy to talk to and he's book smart, but explains nothing in full and pushes surgeries, especially with Arthrex products. I have learned he's made over $300k from Arthrex for speaking and consulting and is "best friends" with the rep (from staff). He has forgotten his oath and is now for profit and not doing the right thing. I have 3 young boys and their only memory of me is on couch and crutches (oldest even said all you do is lay down). He has cost me my physical health, mental health (if I didn't have wife and kids would prob not still be here) and ability to be a father and work. He's a horrible surgeon and leads people down a path of surgery and tells you what you want to here. Please do not have this man touch you or anyone you know. I walk in more pain now and look deformed vs when I went to him. I have a dented heel, growths on side heel and now fibromas on foot. I'm looking at a few more surgeries to try to fix things from another Dr. Please go to Boston or NYC for any foot ortho needs. Your life may depend on it. I saw an ortho in Boston. He said I should have never had this surgery and my running career is now over and to accept it (which was my everything and raising so much for cancer research). Also shows how Rosenbaum cut a ton of bone out and called it a "bad haircut". I never agreed to more than the spur removal. Dr. Rosenbaum is a poor surgeon and person. He is driven by money and not the proper protocols. Others people I have met said their ortho recommended no surgery and/or tenjet for the condition I went to him for. I could've avoided all of this if his pockets weren't his motive. Avoid him at all cost!! He's also scrubbing poor reviews so please see this before seeing him!
