The height of the statue and the background of the public garden makes this one of the must see attractions in the city.

George Washington is probably the figure with the most statues and this is one of the most impressive ones. In the garden it's the most prominent feature and is a popular site to check out for tourists. Check out the rest of the surroundings while here because they're nice. The statue is only one of many you can see. It pretty much is closest to the western entrance of Boston Public Garden. It has a humongous pedestal and can be kind of intimidating. The statue is in very good shape. Clean and there's no trash around. The statue also is a popular gathering site. Lots of demonstrations take place around here. This is also just cool to hang out at and take a few pictures. Behind it is the famous footbridge. The statue also is in front of the Boston skyline. Quite a few people get a selfie in front of it. The statue can get quite a crowd especially when it's nice out. Cool statue to come and look at. It's also important to check out the rest of the garden. There's lots of other important people who have statues.

There is a little area that is enclosed with a heater similar to the one at the Fenway station. Unfortunately the heater was broken. A train comes by every 10-20 minutes at night, while in the mornings and noon it's every 5-8 minutes. The train around this area does go a little slow so leave for your destination early. Keep in mind if you get cold easily, don't sit by the doors. A breeze comes in every time they open the doors. If you sit in the middle or away from the doors the green line does heat up!

When you look at the "not to scale" map of the MBTA network, you might think that the B and C and D…read morelines are actually really far apart from each other. Except that out here, Reservoir station, Cleveland Circle Station and Chestnut Hill Avenue Station are within about five blocks of each other. An easy walk and maybe if you're riding the Green Line into the city, you'll have a quicker ride from Reservoir since there aren't as many stops between here and Kenmore. Reservoir is on the D branch of the Green Line. A solid above ground station, it has good cover to protect you from the elements, plenty of waiting area, audible and visual announcements of the next trains in both directions, and automated ticketing machines for purchasing a Charlie Ticket or adding value to your Charlie Card. The station is between Chestnut Hill (about a mile away, outbound) and Beaconsfield inbound. There are a number of bus connections upstairs.

The Reid Overpass…read morecarries Memorial Drive over the rotary that forms it's intersection with Brookline Street and the approach to the BU Bridge Featuring a beautiful red brick facing with classic stone accents, a total lack of simple maintenance is allowing the Reid Overpass literally to fall apart. Over time the mortar between the bricks and stonework has deteriorated, causing many of them to hang loose or fall off completely, either onto the roadways or occasionally striking a vehicle traveling underneath. It is a very simple and inexpensive maintenance task to routinely "re-point" this type of masonry and extend it's lifetime. The Elliot Bridge, further up the Charles, has a similar brick facing and also is suffering the same despicable negligence. The wintertime "freeze-thaw" cycles accelerate the damage when water gets into the ever widening cracks and masonry joints. Without the Reid Overpass, traffic on Memorial Drive would be as miserable as it is across the river at the Commonwealth Avenue intersection with the BU Bridge. Eventually, structures like this get so bad that they must be rebuilt at great expense (if not closed and torn down, as happened to the gorgeous Sullivan Square Overpass!). Not spending the small amount to perform routine pointing and other simple maintenance ought to be criminally negligent! The Reid Overpass rates three of my stars because of it's beauty and efficiency. (I can't penalize the bridge itself too much because it's custodians fail to properly care for it.)

This marker sign is located in historic Concord Massachusetts and points out some of the very…read moreearliest colonial history of the area. With the same text on both sides, it reads, "This short stretch of street still known as the milldam was the site of an Indian fishing weir and was laid out along the dam built soon after the settlement of the town in 1635." The marker was installed in 1930 by the Massachusetts Bay Colony Tercentenary Commission. Online, there is more information. In pre-colonial days there was a dam that blocked the Mill Brook running through the center of town. It ran a water wheel and grist mill. The river has since been diverted under Main street via an aqueduct. All of the shops on Main Street were built after the dam was removed. Although the platform was open, exposing you to the weather, they do have areas where you can take shelter while waiting for the next train. There were a couple of restaurant options across the street on Brook St and nearby Hancock St. I was able to grab lunch or dinner before heading back to my hotel.

Wollaston Parking Lot in Quincy is convenient and easily accessible spot for parking. Has plenty of…read morespaces, especially for those visiting the area and wanting to get into Boston without the traffic. It's a well-maintained lot that was renovated a few years ago. Not cramped, good spaced out parking but it tends to fill up quickly during peak hours but I haven't experienced any issues. Alternatively you can park at North Quincy Station which is about a 5-minute drive further down the line. Overall, it's hassle-free parking as they don't have anyone in the booth like they did years ago. Be sure to have the PayByPhone app if you want to save $1, or just have them bill your car based on the license plate.

This is where traffic tends to pick up, especially after people fill up at Park St. One time a train broke down in the middle of the tracks. We were stuck in the train cart for over an hour. Then the fire department ended up evacuating the train and made us walk along the dirty tunnels and train tracks. My shoes were ruined because of this incident. No reimbursement. No honor. Japan's trains are beyond better.

For some reason the trains headed out to Riverside weren't running at Park St station, so I hopped on a Heath St train and got off here to wait for a D train. 2 D trains were bunched up, so the train that I was on was run as an express train.
