Professional, dedicated and very compassionate doctor with an amazing staff! First, he has a single doctor practice, which is truly difficult to find these days. He delivers all babies himself except for a few nights a week where hospital OBGYNs cover for him, which he explained to us at the beginning. When I went into labor it was one of those nights and he still showed up with his big smile when I got to the hospital at 6am (one hour before his "shift", on a Saturday morning and right in the middle of the Covid-19 outbreak!- we were impressed). He is very kind and sweet and has great bedside manners. It was my first pregnancy and he listened to all of our concerns and explained everything with patience. He knew my name (and my partner's), my medical history, and you could tell he really cared about my wellbeing. Ultrasounds are done in the same practice before of after your regular visit so that's definitely convenient. For blood work,they have a Quest lab literally next door! The staff is just awesome! I have never seen a more effective staff in a medical office ever!!! I was mainly dealing with Daisy (she is just amazing) but everyone else is also very nice. Every time I called the office I got a response or a call back within the hour!!!No matter the issue (an email with a doctor note for work, information for my insurance, faxing referrals, questions for the doctor... anything!). They always call you back with any results, and explain stuff to you carefully. The practice uses the "my chart app" - very useful for appointments and records. I appreciate that they make an effort to know you and call you by your name so you definitely don't feel like "just another patient ". During delivery you could see Dr A.S is experienced. He is calm, reassuring, encouraging and very human. He really made me feel comfortable and safe. You can tell he cares about you and your partner (making him part of the event and giving him instructions that were definitely useful to help me). He was with us on a Saturday from 6am to 2pm (when the baby was born). He said he would come back to the hospital before we were discharged to check on us and he did twice!(Specifically during the weekend- this is what I call dedication and caring). I also love his approach to birth, as natural as possible (no inductions, unnecessary c-sections or episiotomies) but following the highest medical standards. I am extremely grateful he was my doctor and will definitely come back! read more

I found Dr. Scheinfeld through diligent online research once I found out I was expecting. My usual GYN is located in Dominican Republic and with a baby on the way wasn't going to be possible for me to continue services with her. Dr. Scheinfled has truly been amazing so far. I've had really bad anxiety about the process and what to expect all along and he has managed to ease it all away. DJ (the US tech) is amazing!! His staff at both the manhattan and Brooklyn offices are extremely nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I've dealt with some pretty aggravating pregnancy symptoms and Dr. S has managed to keep me cool, calm and collected. He believes in the least invasive forms possible AND is extremely knowledgeable in his craft. I plan on delivery at NYU - Tisch and truly hope my delivery is just as amazing as dealing with Dr. Scheinfled. I would recommend him in a heart beat! Dr. Scheinfeld delivered my healthy baby boy a year ago this exact date! My experience with him continues to be amazing. He's a caring professional and extremely knowledgeable. I envision him being there for my next two kiddies for sure! He's just as good a GYN as he is OB. I couldn't rave about Dr. Scheinfeld enough. I was referred to him from a friend when I discovered I was pregnant for the first time. He was pretty swamped with clients so I was grateful he took me on. I was a high risk patient and he couldn't have made me feel more relaxed and comfortable all throughout my pregnancy. I had an amazing delivery thanks to him. I delivered my baby 6 weeks early and he made sure to get her here safely. I have never seen a doctor who has been delivering babies for as long as he has that still cares so much about his patients. He stayed at the hospital for 24 hours with me, checking in every few hours. He could have gone home but he stayed in another room reading because he didn't want to miss anything. How he handled my somewhat scary (to me) delivery with ease and confidence will never be forgotten. If I ever move out of NYC I will fly back just to have him deliver any babies of mine in the future. I truly love Dr. Scheinfeld and will forever be grateful for all he did for us. read more

I have been incredibly happy with him as my OBGYN. I am having my first baby, and after calling lots of places and feeling like just an insurance number, Scheinfeld's office was the nicest and made me feel very comfortable. Its like having a small town single practitioner in a big city environment (he delivers at NYU). He's also a very calming figure, and I feel reassured that every thing is fine after every appointment. His approach is easy going and not intrusive, reassuring me that my body was meant to carry a baby and deliver it naturally, and he doesn't like to make unnecessary interventions. Which is how I feel about it too, so its nice to know your doctor is in the same page. So far he's been right, as my pregnancy has been drama free and relatively easy. read more

I've been thinking about this review for many months. I think Dr. S is a nice man, maybe one you'd want to share a beer with, but he was a poor choice of a doctor for me. I feel more loyalty to my fellow mamas out there and wanted to provide my experience for consideration. TL; DR: I found Dr. S to be generally dismissive and I ended up with what I believe was a medically unnecessary C-section under his care. Like many, he was recommended by a doula (two, in fact). I had been at a different practice previously, and I wasn't sure about the drawbacks of private practice, but I really wanted a natural childbirth and I felt that the doulas must have a special knowledge about his demeanor/actions in the delivery room. After my first visit, I felt skeptical, and I wish now I would have followed my gut. He dismissed pretty much every question I had, and I ended up getting the majority of helpful advice from my prenatal yoga teacher who had been a doula, among many other certifications. I also noticed several sexist and paternalistic remarks and that when my husband came to appointments with me, Dr. S mostly talked to him instead of me. It annoyed me, but I chalked this up to being "old school" in the medical system. I labored at home for a long time and came to the hospital almost fully dilated, as was my plan. I had discussed with Dr. S and my doula that I didn't want to push until I felt that my body was ready, but at 9.5 cm, I was told to start pushing. I didn't argue at that point even though I felt it was too early, assuming it might hurry things along. After 1 hr the baby had not descended much. Dr. S was in and out but seemed frustrated about the position I was pushing in. I wanted to be squatting, based on what I'd read/researched; he wanted me on my back holding onto the bedsheet for leverage (I don't know why he cared). When he would pop in, he said things that may have been intended to be motivating, but I found them quite the opposite. He more or less told me that I wasn't pushing correctly, which made me feel incompetent and indirectly blamed for the lack of progress. He kept repeating that it was a big baby, probably between 8 and 9 lbs (I had expressed concern about this in my appointments, which he had been dismissive about, and I felt especially annoyed that NOW he seemed to care). He also told me (again, for the first time) that I had a narrow pubic arch. His whole tone seemed to be: you can't do this. My contractions were slowing down, and in retrospect I think it was because he was stressing me out. I was having bad back labor and decided at that point to get an epidural. He said he thought it was a bad idea but both the nurse and doula said they thought I might be able to push harder with an epidural. They kept telling me that the baby's vitals looked great, and that it wasn't showing any distress and I was fine to keep going. After I waited to get the epidural and for it to take effect, I felt ready to start again. At that point, I was told by Dr. S that it was hospital policy that I had to get a C-Section now since it had been 3 hours since I started pushing. I was beside myself. When I asked why he hadn't told me that before I got the epidural, he said that he had told my husband (my husband denies this). When I pointed out that my husband wasn't his patient, he said that I was entitled to pain relief. I could literally make this review 10 pages long with the back and forth of that day (including a warning mid-labor that I could irreparably damage my baby for trying to have a natural birth) but suffice it to say that I ended up getting a C-section because I had no other choice. I'm not convinced (nor was my doula) that it was medically necessary. It was everything I had hoped to avoid, and I cried about it for weeks. I'm so jealous of the people who talk about how beautiful their births were and how it made them feel so powerful. I so badly wanted that experience. One last note: when he was trying to convince me that a C-section was no big deal, he said, "You can VBAC next time" only to later find out that he doesn't even take VBAC patients (not that I would go to him again). In the end, my baby and I are healthy. So... 2 stars for that. read more

Dr Scheinfeld has delivered both of my children and now delivering my 3rd. He is very patient and is highly concerned with his patients and i love the receptionist and medical assistants. I always obtain an appointment immediately never had an issue with an appointment, as far as results it does take a few days since the results are sent out to labs like any other office or hospital. I have been going to him for over 10 yrs and deeply satisfied. He didn't have a sonogram machine in the past but he now has the sonogram capability in his office. I highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Scheinfeld is a gem. With my first pregnancy, I switched to Dr. Scheinfeld at around 25 weeks from another widely-respected practice downtown. While the other practice had gleaming facilities and perfectly nice (and I think very competent) doctors, it felt like a little bit of a factory, and they were somewhat pessimistic about my desire for a natural birth. Dr. S. came highly recommended by my doula, who has a wealth of experience working with a range of practitioners at (I think) every hospital in the city. I could not have been more happy that I made the switch. When my water broke unexpectedly at 35 weeks, Dr. S. was a calming force, reassuring me that me and my baby would be just fine. He was right - I still had the natural birth experience I wanted and my daughter was perfectly healthy. Moreover, I never panicked or felt the stress I might have with a different, more reactionary doctor - I attribute my ability to still enjoy my birth experience, and my very positive memories of it, to Dr. S and his gentle, reassuring bedside manner. I'm now with Dr. S. for my second pregnancy, and refer him to friends all the time. His office isn't fancy, but his staff are incredibly kind and treat every expectant mother with care (and actually know names!). I've found him always receptive to my questions and I've never felt rushed during a visit. If you are looking for individualized, professional, and calming care, Dr. Scheinfeld is a terrific choice. read more

I found Dr. Scheinfeld 11 years ago through a web search of the best OBGYN in NY since then he delivered my 3 kids via C-section, not only did i and my husband have a wonderful experience with Dr. Scheinfeld but overall he is the BEST ! he always made sure we were comfortable in and out the hospital and was there for us even on weekends via mobile if we had any emergencies or concerns. I totally recommend Dr. S !! his office staff is AMAZING! starting from the receptionist to the sonogram tech and the best part is he is the wait is just so much better than those crowded offices. read more

I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find what I felt was the best care possible during my pregnancy and along came Dr. Scheinfeld after a doula recommended him. He delivered my healthy baby girl on 2/10/19 and I am forever grateful. He is a wonderful doctor - patient, kind, always accessible, low intervention (did not push for an induction when I passed my due date) and he made it to the hospital in time for my (very fast) delivery. His style of practice is calm and non-alarmist. The employees (receptionist, nurse, sono tech) in his office are also very nice. He delivers at NYU and the staff there really seemed to respect him. You will meet with him for all your appointments and he will also deliver your baby. If a patient goes into labor during your appointment time it will be rescheduled. This happens but is the price you pay for the feeling of small town care in a big city. Wait times can vary, the doctor is always apologetic, but when you meet with him he gives you all the time you need. The pros definitely outweigh the cons with this and I would highly recommend him if you're looking for an incredible doctor! read more

First and foremost, I would highly recommend Dr. Scheinfeld to any one looking for a OB/GYN midtown NYC, or if you live in and around Williamsburg, BK. His staff is very hospitable and very accomodating. Dr. Scheinfeld was very zen, extremely professional, and comforting throughout my pregnancy. He believes in the bodies natural ability to give birth and is not pushy, invasive, or aggressive with his practice. He lets you know step by step what he is doing and discusses wholeheartedly any questions you might have. In the delivery room, Dr. Scheinfeld is all about the business. MEANING: he wants to make sure you are safe, well and delivering a healthy baby. HE, HIMSELF, delivers ALL his babys. (Talk about Johnny on the spot!) You can be rest assured the doctor you have established a relationship with over 10 months will be assisting you and delivering you at a great facility (NYU Langone Medical Center) with a great nurse alongside him.. (the staff at NYU Langone Medical Center are amazing, including his residency doctors and the nurses post delivery). I saw Dr. Scheinfeld for my monthly prenatal checkups in the Manhattan office. Because I had Metroplus, sonograms were only covered in his (Tues. Thurs.) Williamsburg office (an agreement he has with the assisting doctor). We did have the option of going to a more convenient place for sonograms (i.e. Beth Israel Group), but because I wanted to work solely with Dr. Scheinfeld, my husband and I would gladly travel to Brooklyn via the J,M, Z (two stops after Broadway/Lafayette). It was worth it. He is there (if not out delivering a baby), and its a very easy commute to and from the city. Its definitely worth staying with him for both (office visits and sonograms) if your insurance is not accepted in Manhattan (i.e. sonograms). To do your blood work, he sends you Diagnostics Lab located within a walking distance from his office. Walk-ins are welcome. If you are reading this and thinking that the extra work you have to do or places to travel to get stuff done, I am telling you, IN THE END it is ALL worth having Dr. Scheinfeld deliver your baby. I delivered at 40 weeks and 2 days. I live within walking distance from his office and NYU Langone Medical Center. Because Dr. Scheinfeld prefers to let nature take its course in the birthing process, he suggested I do most of my laboring at home. This would mean less intervention with the hospital and me being able to work through and breathe through my contractions (with the help of my husband). When my contractions were one minute apart, for one minute for over 2 hours I was able to call him directly. He advised me what to do. I, on the other hand, did not go to the hospital right away b/c I felt personally I could do more laboring at home. I wanted the LEAST intervention as possible. I had already discussed having a NATURAL, v. delivery, with no meds in our visits. So I waited for another 2 hours and only on my husbands accord, we took a cab and checked in at the hospital. This was my first birthing process, so I didnt know that the horrific contractions that my husband was helping me breathe through allowed dilation to occur. When the resident doctor checked me I was 7.5 dilated (you deliver at 10). They immediately called Dr. Schienfeld who arrived in less than 15 minutes. I checked in at 3:30p, my 9lb. 8oz. HEALTHY baby boy was delivered ALL NATURAL, no meds, no anesthetic, no epideral at 6;00p. Dr. Scheinfeld IS a professional in and out of the delivery room. He is confident in his profession and delivers all types of scenarios.. When I say that he is all about the body taking its natural course through birthing, I mean he also delivers a lot of patients opting to get an epideral. Whatever the case, he is the most remarkable doctor I have ever experienced and look forward to delivering ALL of my babys with him. G-d willing. He is truly unique, caring, special and surely one of a kind when you consider the hustle and bustle of NYC doctor scene. Another note I might add, sometimes very rarely, you will have to wait in the doctors office maybe fairly long considering what your patience level is. Just be aware that sometimes on Mondays, after big holidays, your wait time might be delayed, BUT it is NOT always like this. Think about emergency calls, emergency walk-ins, and him working very hard to provide for a large clientele. He always acknowledges your wait time, but this goes to show, he is the BEST one around and in high demand for his successful, genuine, productivity. I kept telling myself, this doctor is worth the wait and worth delivering out of NYU Langone Medical Center. Take a book, a snack, and be prepared at time AT TIMES to wait. Hope this review gave you a bit of insight of what you are considering and looking for. This doctor changed my life. There are still good, old school, genuine practices out here, even in good ol' NYC. Please walk in with an open mind. read more

I have been going to Dr Andrew scheinfeld for over 3 years, I have had an outstanding experience with him and his staff. He is really has a zen attitude, he tells you every step before he takes it and he creates a safe and comforting environment. I have gone through some scary situations and even embarrassing occurrences and he has been understanding and not remotely judgmental or critical. I think it is kinda weird that someone would write a review for someone else, a little mean spirited, I have never had a bad experience but I have always found the team accommodating and really understanding so I find that comment above strange. read more

I have delivered 2 babies with Dr. Scheinfeld at NYU and both deliveries were wonderful. He is caring, patient and considerate. It is so valuable to me that he tailors the experience to the patient's preference. My friend who is a nurse practitioner in the NICU at NYU said that his babies always "come out well," even when there are problems. When I had complications with one of my pregnancies, he explained things well, answered questions and was good at easing my mind--one of his greatest strengths. They got me in for sonograms and appts when I needed them most. With my first miscarriage, he was prompt to help me make decisions (d&c, etc.). He is laid back but attentive to every detail, so it's impossible to be stressed or nervous around him. He believes that pregnancy is a natural state and not a state of disease, the body knows what to do, etc. He works SOO much but you'd never know it because of his attitude and ability to care for his patients. read more

I love having Dr Scheinfeld as my doctor. He delivered both of my babys, and the second was well over 9lb. He was calming and reassuring throughout my pregnancies. If ever there was an emergency he was there for me or waited in the office for me to get there (his staff also waited for me). I like knowing that when I go to the office or when I deliver my baby he is the one I am going to see and that it's not pot luck. Dr. Scheinfeld delivered my two children, and cared for my health through two very different pregnancies. He always maintains a calm aura and makes every possible adjustment to accomodate a patient's unque style and situation. I see many doctors in NYC and Scheinfeld's office is the only one where they know my name, where the front desk is friendly (Lynn is amazing) and where the doctor picks up his cell phone day or night when you call. He may be one of the few remaining private OBGYNs in the city. Because of this, he doesn't have the infrastructure of some other offices, but what he offers in personal attention more than makes up for it. read more

My wife found Dr. Scheinfeld randomly. I call him Dr. Seinfeld by the way :) It turned out however to be a great choice. He is an amazing Doctor who is always there for you and who even visits you on the weekends!!! Moreover the whole NYU Langone birthing staff loves him, so when they found out that he was our doctor we got a preferential treatment (shhhh....don't tell anyone). Anytime we went to a birthing unit at NYU Langone they were already waiting for us because Dr.Scheinfeld called ahead. He is great, you know 100% that he will deliver your baby and he has a knack for making families feel at ease. I would recommend him 100% with stellar recommendation!!! read more

He was there with me through my whole labor and calmly guided me through some difficult moments.When other personel were talking to me in very frightening tones with very technical words, he made me understand all that was happening in a very reassuring way.The birth was beautiful.After the delivery he hugged me and my husband and applauded his nurses.When we thanked him he said "well we had a lot of help from above".When we went for our postpartum visit he gave us his personal list of childrens books that he would recommend for our child.This is a very unusual physician in only the best sense. read more

Dr. Scheinfeld has delivered all 3 of my kids. For all 3 deliveries, he was at the hospital before I got there. He is a perfectionist, but is not stuffy or cold. He is very kind and calming, never rushes your appointment. He has no partners to cover for him and yet he's never been away for any of my deliveries or ob appts. He doesn't have a sonogram machine and that can be annoying but he and his family live above his practice which is literally 1 block away from NYU where the sonograms are done. I switched to Dr Scheinfeld from NYU's Maternal Fetal care group practice midway through my pregnancy, after my doula suggested that working with a single known doctor rather than a group practice would provide a greater degree of personal care, and a greater likelihood of a vaginal birth on the day. However, I found him always in a hurry, unwilling to answer questions about prenatal care, and outright rude and dismissive. After a borderline high blood sugar reading, when i was struggling with sugar crashes and asked for advise, he said, "I wish I could help you, but I'm not a psychiatrist". My husband, who might just be the most polite human being I've ever met, says, "the man is an ass." As far as the birth itself, Dr S showed up at the delivery room with a terrible flu, did not wear a mask, and subsequently made me, my husband and newborn baby all horribly ill, coloring our first weeks of life with our precious baby with unnecessary discomfort and stress. In addition, though my labor was very quick-- I'd been in the hospital only a few hours, pushing for under an hour, and the baby's head was part of the way out-- Dr S in the middle of a push suddenly and with no warning cut me, performing a completely unnecessary episiotomy, without informing us or asking our consent (our Doula confirmed that the baby was almost out, and there was absolutely no medical reason for it). Three months later, with a huge painful scar and still unable to have sex, I asked Dr S for a referral for physical therapy, and he refused. Only then, did i mention to him the fact of being given an unnecessary episiotomy, to which he shrugged and said, "I don't remember." despite this, the birth of my baby girl was the best moment of my life, and the most important. I'm grateful that she is here safe and sound, but given that i had a low risk pregnancy, a swift uncomplicated labor and delivery, and my husband and i are nice, easy going people, I think Dr Scheinfeld could have treated us with a bit more humanity and respect, and not left us feeling like shit every time we left his office. I didn't deliver with maternal fetal care, so i can't say how that would've gone, but in contrast, the facilities are modern, the doctors were always personable, unhurried, and happy to answer our nervous 1st time pregnancy questions. read more

Dr. Scheinfeld delivered both my daughters at NYU. I could not have asked for a better Dr. or hospital staff. He is very thorough and knowledgeable and took the time to answer any questions that I had with both pregnancies. Any pain/discomfort/concerns that I felt were immediately addressed. With my first pregnancy he even showed up to NYU several hours before it was necessary because he knew how anxious I was! The nurses at NYU were also very skilled and approachable. Dr. Scheinfeld just delivered our baby at NYU three days ago. I cannot say enough good things about him. He has a solo practice which means you will see him every visit and he will deliver your baby. He never takes a day off and has only missed one patient delivery in his decades of practicing. To give you some frame of reference, he delivered three babies or more every day we were in the hospital. Other larger practices may be slightly more administratively convenient, but you may end up with a stranger delivering your baby when she comes. If you prioritize familiarity with your OB-GYN and a calm, reassuring presence, this is your guy. The nurses in the maternity ward at NYU love him too, which validated all we felt about him. You cannot go wrong with him, he's a genuinely caring person, and you can't teach that in Med school. NYU hospital was a phenomenal place to deliver too. Huge shout out to the maternity nurses, they were on point. read more

I went to see Dr. Scheinfeld for a pre-natal consultation (not yet pregnant but planning so I was in the process of looking for the right obgyn). the 'interview' went well and he seemed very nice. When i went into the office to get checked, it looked a bit dirty. after he checked me, i asked him if he could do any blood test to ensure that all my hormones, etc, were in good condition to have a baby. He said that this was not necessary (that felt strange to me as everything i had read indicated the opposite). What really did it for me, was when I finished paying, the nurse told me that she wanted to show me the "women's" section. She took me to a room that had iPod looking vibrators (seriously!) and some small balls to exercise you thingy! I was in shock! i was looking for health/baby counsel and they pull a vibrator! it made me feel uncomfortable and i lost my respect for the doctor - who mixes these two types of business? Nothing against a vibrator, but so not the right place to sell it! t not going back there. read more
