All items looked good. Not sure if owner is Russian or European, but it's a unique place for visitors. These markets are more popular in streets of Paris, France and other parts of Europe. I loved the fruit prices and wide selections/so clean and organized with passionate employees enjoying their jobs. Cashier was quick and experienced. Box of $6.99 Russian coconut almond candy was very strong in flavor and coconut/nice! The box itself was beautiful too. Tempting. Chocolates were all outstanding from the box covers. Most quality goodies can be found for under $10 per box/pack. Under $15 range is pretty decent for larger items. Not bad for a good find on Valentine's Day. I'll revisit next time. Everything is in Spanish to so it helps to have some understanding of meat names in Español. I love thier marinated chicken! It's great for tacos! Thier produce is also reasonably priced and always seems to be good quality. I also feel like thier canned goods are all reasonably priced compared to most small stores. The employees are always very helpful as well. The store is also VERY clean which is a plus. Some other stores on Grand Ave. Can't say that.

Unfortunately, my experience at the meat counter completely changed my opinion. I ordered 1 lb of chicharrón. I usually go to Chavez Market, but I decided to give this place a try. Everything was fine until the employee started cutting the chicharrón into smaller pieces. Instead of using a clean cutting board, he placed a piece of paper over a cutting board that had just been used for raw meat. While cutting, a large piece of my chicharrón rolled off the paper and touched the raw meat sitting next to it. He quickly grabbed it back like nothing happened, but I clearly saw it. To make things worse, another employee handed him a knife that had just been used on raw meat and simply wiped it off with a towel instead of properly sanitizing it. That is a serious food safety concern. I ended up paying around $15 for food I no longer felt comfortable eating. I really wanted to like this place, but proper food handling and sanitation should be taken much more seriously. I would love to get my money back but im sure they wont honor it.
