Over the past five years I have gone into Anderson's several times. Purchased beautiful estate gold earrings as a gift at a reasonabe price. The earrings were buffed, placed in a box and gift-wrapped as if they were the crown jewels. I had my engagement ring resized (up from a 4.5 to a 5) and it was done in a few days for a very reasonable charge. Made an appointment (which they require, max 30 mins) to have some items that I inherited valued (not "appraised" as appraisals require a charge for being verified, as for insurance purposes.) Hoping to repurpose some of the items into a ring. A friend had two rings made by Anderson's that are exquisite, and all done from materials in pieces she inherited. It was all good....from being greeted by Jan who offered to help show me some estate pieces, and then when I asked about a piece I had recently purchased, wanting to verify the setting and stones, Jan notified Jim who gave me confirmation re/my piece (a ring). They were more than helpful, offering advice, and overall just very friendly and wanting to help. While I was there I perused other beautiful pieces of jewelry. They have a large selection of estate jewelry (including rings, necklaces, old pocket watches). They are very helpful and have fixed jewelry of mine while I waited, for a reasonable price. They are a good place to look for gifts whether it be for a child or an adult. They also have a beautiful array of vintage jewelry. The people who work at Anderson's are always helpful and friendly. They also offer estimates of jewelry for insurance, at a price. I'll start with the experience my now fiancé and grandmother had before I get to my negative review: My grandmother gave my now fiancé the family heirloom diamond when she found out he was on the market for an engagement ring for me. She suggested he go here to get the diamond put in a setting as she has been a long time customer and gets a lot of jewelry here for my cousins. My fiancé and grandmother went here a few times for consultations and to pick out my setting and band together. They both said they had nothing but a delightful experience here. Because of this my fiancé and I decided to continue giving them business by doing our wedding bands with them. Until it was time for my engagement ring to be resized. We have since sworn we will never come here again. The ring my fiancé proposed to me with was a size 5 1/2. It was too big but I wore it for 9 days with a ring guard before bringing it in to get resized. A man helped me and resized me and had this double checked with another woman. They both agreed my size was 5 1/4. But it was written on the slip as 5 3/4 (which is freaking bigger!) I should have said something then but I didn't as my stupid self put trust in them -- I mean after all both my fiancé and grandmother raved about this place. Here comes the day I go to pick up my resized ring. I go to pick up the ring and oh wow surprise surprise it was bigger than when I dropped it off. I said this to the woman helping me and she told me the day I dropped it off it was hot and my finger must have been swollen and today it's cooler that's why it feels bigger. Also, she told me to be mindful of hormones as when that time of the month comes water weight is retained and my fingers will be bigger. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I disagreed with her and told her this needs to be resized once again to a 5 1/4. She rolled her eyes at me and had a man help me. They recommended I just wear a ring guard every day and generously gave me about 6 inches of it off the spool for safe keeping for when I need it. Wtf, your solution is for me to keep wearing a ring guard rather than resize it correctly? The man was also no help as he told me I will now be charged $60 for yet another resize and he wrote on the slip for it to be a 5 1/2. I was full of rage at this point because he refused to listen to me as I repeatedly said 5 1/4 while he wrote the slip for 5 1/2. I would like to note as well that I was resized yet again on this visit as a 5 1/4. When I got home teary eyed and angry I told my fiancé what happened. He was livid. He called Anderson's and told them calmly what happened. We were promised this would be corrected and the ring for sure would be sized down to a 5 1/4 at no charge. So here we are 10 days later and I picked up my once again resized engagement ring. I was met with a hundred and one heartfelt apologies upon walking in. Guess what? It's too big. When I put the ring back on a pit in my stomach formed, my heart stopped, and I felt the lump form in my throat. I signed for it, said thank you, and GTFO of there. I hope wherever we decide to get our wedding bands from can help me get the perfect fit. read more

I called their store to ask if I could bring my mother's pearl necklace in for evaluation. I had talked to Theresa. I arrived at their store and asked for her and they said that someone will look at it. They didn't say why Theresa wasn't available. The nice gal that took the necklace back came back out almost immediately and said they weren't interested. I drove 40 miles to get the brush off. They didn't give me any evaluation like if it was real or paste. Very dissatisfied at their customer service. I have a feeling that they just thought I wanted money for the necklace and not receive any evaluation at all. Everyone that I talked to at other shops were amazingly helpful and explained exactly what kind of pearls they were, etc. Horrible customer service!!! read more

If you are interested in wasting your time consistently, for months, this is the place for you! I have been strung along for two months regarding a wedding band, had 3 rings made that were all completely wrong, with not only the diamond size but also the ring size. I called twice for an update to be told they were already ready both times, indicating the absolute lack of communication skills every employee has. Upon asking if it is normal to never get any communication regarding a product I am ordering, I was told it was not. I have spent 2 months, 6 trips there, and still do not have what I ordered. They kept my engagement ring to match my wedding ring precisely, and upon going there for my 6th visit, the ring made was 2 sizes to big. The incompetence of this company is astonishing. I will never be back and I will be sure to tell all whom I know to not step foot in their building. Working with Andersons has been an absolute waste of my time and now I get to stress about finding a wedding rings elsewhere, with 40 days left until my wedding. Not only are the employees incompetent, they are also rude and will personally attack you for your appearance and age. I would stay away from this location at all costs. Incredibly nice people and a good experience all-around: I called Anderson's as I had a couple of items I was interested in selling. I spoke with Vicki who was very nice and she told me to come in and see Neil Anderson the next day, and when I brought in my items, I spoke with a really nice guy while Neil looked at my items. I wish I had gotten this man's name, but he has a daughter at Emerson College. I received a fair price for an engagement ring (having had the opposite experience at Shreve's in Chestnut Hill and Dolobany's in Westwood). I had the greatest experience here this morning. I had a silver spoon ring stuck on my middle finger and it was painfully stuck. I was about to go to the emergency room but gave them a call and they said they could take care of it. After a combination of pliers, cutters and some grit the ring came right off. They saved the day, as I was supposed to head to the airport later today and could not risk traveling like this. Terrible customer service. Walked in today looking for something specific. I asked a saleswoman where I would find what I was looking for. She pointed in the direction of where I should look. She never walked over. Never asked me if I would like to look at anything. She just stood on the other side of the store. My fiance and I visited Anderson's during our search for wedding rings and had a wonderful experience there. The store carries both new inventory and estate jewelry. Lisa Wikstrom Curran, the salesperson working with us, showed us a surprisingly large assortment of rings within our budget, many of which were nicer and more unique than similar rings we'd seen elsewhere. By the end of our visit I was debating between two rings (one new and one estate), both of which they were nice enough to "hold" for me for more than a week without a deposit, while I made my ring-buying decision. When I went back mid-week to try the rings on again, the salesperson who helped me then was every bit as friendly and patient as Lisa had been, thoroughly sealing my high opinion of this place. Anderson's is a family-run independent business -- the kind ALL of us should be supporting right now! -- and their commitment to personal, unsnooty customer service really showed in the experiences I had there. I had brought an Hermes 'H' bracelet to get fixed by Hermes in Boston, which was then shipped to France for 5 months. But alas, Hermes could not fix it. But Anderson's was able to fix the bracelet in less than a week of bringing it in to the store. This is amongst the many reasons they are Wellesley's number one jeweler. read more

A delightful shop with a dizzying variety of things on offer, I could have taken hours just browsing if my sister hadn't had to drag me out [we had to be somewhere]. I -did- come back the next day, though, and spent a good amount of time traipsing around trying things on and debating while one of the absolutely lovely staff chased me around with a velvet tray of maybes [so patient! bless her]. It turns out taste for this place tuns in the family, since this is apparently the place my grandfather bought my mother's first pair of pearl earrings. After much agonizing, most of my maybes went back in the cases, but [aided with a small but helpful discount] I went home with two delightful pieces for my growing collection and I'll absolutely be back. The sheer -amount- of estate jewelry just makes me tingle, and the wide range of price points therein makes it a lot less nerve-wracking to shop even if you haven't a spare three grand to drop on a whim. read more

Wonderful family owned jeweler in Wellesley. I took my grandmothers old wedding ring to get resized ($80 to go up 2.5 sizes) and appraised ($100 for an insurance appraisal). The staff were consistently professional and extremely service oriented. They were patient and gave us their undivided attention. During a closet cleanout, I gathered all my unwanted, broken bits and pieces of jewelry. One jewelry store, in Newton, did a very cursory appraisal and offered me about $150, claiming that a number of pieces were base metal, not gold or silver. On the advice of a friend, I went to Anderson's. Totally different experience. They carefully listed each item or group of items, and offered me a check for over $500 then and there. I would be very cautious when using this jewelry store. I bought an expensive Cyma watch from them in 2006 and have not had good luck with the watch or the service. For the first year or so the watch was great, but then after about a year, the watch started running around 20 min late. I would reset it, it would run on time for 2 weeks and then slowly start to run behind. I took it back to Anderson's, they replaced the battery and said it would be fine. Not fixed. I brought it back again. They said they would look again. I brought it back about 4 more times before they said they were going to send it back to Cyma. They said they sent it back to Cyma who replaced the movements and it should be all set. It's still not running on time and it's Jan 2011. When I called to get the paperwork showing they sent it to Cyma, they said they never sent it to Cyma. I am now having to pay to send the watch directly to Cyma on my own to see what the problem is because Anderson's could never help. Very frustrating. Not a jeweler I would ever use again. UPDATE: I had my watch sent to Cyma directly and had to pay $200 to fix my watch. It was a very easy fix because Anderson's had lied to me and put in the wrong overhaul. Good news is that although I had to pay, it is now working like a charm. Bad news is that because Anderson's lied to me for basically 3 years I had to wait all this time to get it fixed, but alas I figured it out on my own. My review still stands that I would NOT recommend Anderson's. read more

I wanted to use an antique diamond that I owned for a credit toward an engagement ring that my son was picking out. I took it to Anderson Jewelers and asked them to appraise just the diamond so I could know the value. Instead they offered me $1500 for the entire ring. We then took it to another jeweler who offered $3000 for just the middle diamond. Another situation was I went in to Anderson Jewelers to have another ring appraised for insurance purposes. The jeweler told me the ring was worth approx $1500. I was not going to have it appraised for insurance if it wasn't worth it as I have a $1000 deductible. When I picked up the ring after the appraisal, they appraised it for $850.00. They charged me $100.00 for the appraisal which is outrageous since the ring wouldn't even be covered under my deductible. I have friends that have had issues with this company as well. Today I called Anderson's Jewelers with a simple request. I needed a plate engraved with 3 letters. Previously I have taken them a Solid Silver Paul Revere bowl and had it hand engraved with many letters and THEN they were nice to me. Ridiculously expensive but since they were raking it in they were nice. This time around when I asked for less expensive Machine engraving of 3 letters in less than a week you would have thought I asked for the MOON! The man on the phone was ruder than can be and basically hung up on me. I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN! By the way I grew up in Wellesley and many years ago my friends mom took a VERY valuable diamond ring to them for routine cleaning and caught them trying to STEAL out the diamond. I have an estate diamond ring from them (circa 1920, and STUNNING, at a great price), a pair of estate stud diamond earrings, timeless and also very fairly priced, and a pair of custom adapted sapphire earrings that they altered on the spot to make them what I had envisioned. They treat customers with respect and if they don't have what you want, they will tell you where you can find it. Who DOES that anymore? I don't give a lot of 5 star ratings.
