The place is a large wooden building that resembles something that would have been built in the 1870's. There are a few bench's and chairs on the front porch to relax in after eating or if you need to wait for a table. They have a general store with some interesting items as well. Schuler's is a buffet style barbecue and all you can eat. Their pulled pork is their best meat. I wasn't really impressed with their ribs though. Don't get me wrong, the were pretty good but I certainly wasn't blown away. Their fried chicken is good but again not much different from most buffets in South Carolina. Their collards are nice and they do offer hash. If you're thinking corn beef hash, it's not that. It's a BBQ or liver hash and it's definitely an acquired taste. I usually put it over rice if I get it. Hash was highly popular in South Carolina for many years. It can't hurt to try it as Schuler's is actually pretty good. Not my favorite barbecue in the area but it's cool place with great people.

The staff was very friendly, the service was good...I had takeout but the restaurant is a buffet inside. It clearly is a place the locals enjoy and it is an easy stop if you are on the way to the beach. All in all, my favorite was actually the hot dog. The chili was excellent and the slaw had just a touch of sweetness. The BBQ was well prepared, just not my favorite style or taste profile...a bit too much twang. I would recommend Shuler's if you are in the area and look forward to trying other items the next time I return.

There is no seating inside the building, but take your meal and walk around to the back. Here you will find a truly unique picnic seating. The price point here is superb. $26 bought two trays-- chopped pork with sides of coleslaw and mac 'n cheese, a rib plate (4 bones) with sides of baked and green beans, a sausage link, and two cans of diet Pepsi. The mac 'n cheese, which is an in-house recipe, is one of the ten best that we have so far found in BBQ circles nationwide (346 stops in 35 states) . The coleslaw is neutral, making it ideal to cleanse the palate as you move between different meats. We also liked the beans, especially the green beans. The sausage link had good snap and flavor. and the in-house vinegar sauce really brought the pork to life, but our meat of choice here would be the ribs. Beautifully prepared, with a clean bite and a tasty rub and light sauce, they are simply delicious. So, we strongly recommend that you make the effort to get here ... but go early! We were eighth in line at the opening, and worried that we might miss out because, as is always the case in the universe of small town American BBQ, when it's sold out, they are done for the day.

Southern Smoke BBQ provided free food to the first 500 people, so I can imagine how much work they did to prepare the food. The pulled pork was the best North Carolina barbecue I have had so far. It was so moist, flavorful, and well-shredded. It had enough flavor that did not require additional sauce. However, their bottled vinegar sauce did add an extra oopmh, that I would still recommend adding. Their mac and cheese made with penne pasta was also very good. The pasta was a little overcooked to my taste but I still enjoyed it. It was creamy and packed with cheese. I could eat this every day. The coleslaw was good too, more on the sweeter side, but not overly sweet. Will need to stop by the restaurant next time I'm in the area!

This restaurant is very clean with a very welcoming atmosphere (seating inside and out) and clean restrooms. The waitstaff are always very attentive and just all around good people. The cooks are amazing and cook your food just as you order. Very kid friendly, I've been bringing my kids here from wee little ones to teenagers. If you have not checked out their Christmas events with Santa flying in on a plane, you need to check it out. No matter how old you are, you will enjoy it. The elves will parachute from the plane while they put on a show, and Santa will fly in to greet the kids. This place is all around awesome!! You have the option to sit outside right by the runway. There are a couple of old planes to you to look at and several things of interest outside. We had five young children with us and they had a blast. The service was very good as well. The white staff is very friendly and seemed unbothered by any request. I ordered the smoked chicken and my wife got the brisket nacho plate. The chicken was good, although the breast was a little dry. You have a choice of a standard barbecue sauce as well as a spicy. Being in North Carolina, they are vinegar based but pretty good. I had baked beans and potato salad for my sides. Potato salad was good and the baked beans were baked beans. We did have fried pickles as an appetizer and they were well done and came out piping hot. The brisket nachos were good and I tried a bit of their pulled pork and it was very solid as well. All in all the whole experience was marvelous. It made eating with little kids a lot more fun. (Although maybe I was just a big kid.)

He was SO hospitable, sweet and genuinely welcoming. He gave great recommendations and did not steer us wrong. These days, it's not always easy to come across service like that, which made it even more appreciated. I ordered the Sunset Blush drink and it was delicious. We also got the cornbread and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST cornbread I've ever had. So soft and flavorful. The brisket sandwich was a little dry (could be because we went during closing) but still had really good flavor. The mac and cheese though... WOW. I am very picky with mac and cheese and most places miss the mark, but this tasted homemade. Easily a 10/10. My husband got the peach bourbon burger and said it was great. The kids ate everything in sight which is always a win...lastly the cinnamon roll cheesecake for dessert... phenomenal!!! Overall such a great experience and I'm really glad we stopped in!

After driving 15 hours on March 21, 2026, my husband and I were genuinely excited to try this place and planned to take our food back to the hotel. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly and never really recovered. First, parking is extremely limited out front, which is frustrating when you're tired and just want a quick pickup. Inside, things only got worse. The front-of-house staff was shockingly unprofessional. The employee helping us clearly didn't understand her job and had to be corrected multiple times by another staff member--something no customer should have to witness. It created confusion, delays, and zero confidence in our order. We paid about $50 for a sampler, which is not cheap, and yet the same employee argued about giving us the sides because she entered the order incorrectly. If another, more competent employee hadn't stepped in, I'm convinced it would have escalated further. Even then, we never received one of the four sides we paid for. To make matters worse, we were never asked if we wanted drinks to go, and we weren't given plates, silverware, or even BBQ sauce--basic essentials for a takeout order. That's just unacceptable. While waiting, we also watched this same employee tell three separate dine-in families to go sit and wait while she stood there rolling silverware. Completely rude and dismissive. If I had been one of those customers, I would have walked out. This is the first impression customers get, and it's a terrible reflection of how the place is run. Between the disorganization, poor communication, and outright unfriendly behavior, the service was a mess. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the food itself was actually very good. The burnt ends and ribs were the standout--absolutely delicious. But great BBQ can't fully make up for such a frustrating and poorly managed customer experience.
