The facts: I had 5 items of anodized aluminum (approx 1.22"x1.62") that I wanted laser engraved (ablated, technically). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Jon provided a quote and turnaround time via email within 24hrs of me inquiring.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I dropped off my items on Friday, and they shipped them back to me the following Monday and I received them Tuesday. --- The good: Out of the 6 places I inquired with, Jon was the only one to provide an itemized quote ($8.95/item x 5 + $20 setup charge = $64.75) and a reasonable turnaround time (1-2 business days). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The team even provided a layout for me to approve of the placement that closely matched how I designed it, to which I approved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The engraving marks themselves were crisp and clean. --- The bad: The items were offset left ~1mm and immediately noticeable upon receipt. I reply to the layout approval email to ask if being ~1mm set left was within tolerance and if there was anything I could have done to insure better alignment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The team did not respond to my email for over 24hrs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Potentially being lost in email threads, I added "quality/alignment question" into a follow up and this is the email thread: Jon: "We do not work with mm or cm. Our machines are not set up like that. So, outside items have a risk of possibly being off such a small fraction of an inch (0.0393701)." Me: "Noted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It would have been helpful to know the tolerances ahead of time to manage the expectations and design.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm new to laser engraving and would appreciate advice on how I would be able to get more accurate alignments? Would additional templating help?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I want to have more of this work done, potentially and want to make sure things are set up for better success on both our ends." Jon: "Hey Ellis, 1mm is such a small amount; all laser jobs could be at risk of that. It would not matter how the art is setup." --- Opinion: [[HIGHLIGHT]]I wish I would have been informed of the tolerance they were comfortable in providing so I could determine if I approved of that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] From what I gathered about laser engraving, getting a design aligned and centered on a rectangular item seems with reason. And, their layout led me to expect that's what they were going to deliver. Attached are photos of their layout I approved and what I got. I submitted an order for a plaque on May 25 that included adding a photo. On May 26, I received an email from the company stating that they do not print photos onsite and that I would need to provide a printed copy myself. Unfortunately, this information was never disclosed online prior to placing the order. Had that been clearly stated, I would have selected a different product from the beginning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I responded to the email explaining that this information was not available online and stated that I would instead like to order a different item. However, after sending my response, I received an email notifying me that my order had simply been canceled. There was no phone call, follow-up email, or attempt to ask what alternative item I would like to purchase.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then called the store and spoke with Jon. I explained that I felt the order was handled poorly and that a courtesy call or email should have been made before canceling the order, especially to discuss replacement options. During the conversation, Jon was dismissive and rude.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked to speak with a manager, he stated that he runs the store. I then asked for the owner's contact information, and he responded by saying, "That doesn't matter."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As a returning customer, I found this interaction extremely disappointing and unprofessional. Rather than addressing my concerns, Jon repeatedly mentioned that he had worked for the company for 14 years, as though that excused the way I was treated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I value professionalism and customer service, especially when supporting local businesses. While I caught the individual ones before I left the store, I didn't notice the other errors on the perpetual trophy until after the event. They were able to correct the mistakes I caught on the spot, with the excuse that they were having difficulties with their engraver. I have a traveling trophy for my fantasy football league that has been in use for close to a decade now. I had to pick up on some overdue engraving and brought them in to Jon to help with. Could not have been any easier to have done - took about a week for a batch of 6 plates, very cost effective, and look beautiful. I then had them modernize the old champion plates to match the new ones because they looked better. Cut the plates from scratch and matched perfectly. When we caught a typo of a missing word, Jon jumped from my asking if it was a typo or character count issue to emailing me back that he'd redone the plate correctly immediately. I didn't even ask! I thought the name was too long, but he took the initiative to come with a solution. Quick, communicative, super kind, and excellent work. I was looking for a particular present for my boyfriend's September birthday and found Anderson Trophy on Yelp. I walked in and was greeted by Manny, who worked with me on what they could do with what I needed; a crystal piece with song lyrics suspended inside. We talked for a bit and he showed me what they could do and I decided on a crystal piece with the engraved lyrics on the back. I paid a fair price and was informed they would send me an email with an attachment for approval and pending my approval the item would be ready in a week. Came here for small little name plates to put on picture frames. They beat the price of other places I called and their reviews were good so I came here. Parking was easy, they were friendly, responded to my emails and call regarding the order. However, they did get the order incorrect the first time, they used the wrong font. I had to wait an extra day to get the plates and then a few were misspelled and they had to correct them right there. Overall, price is good but I wouldn't come back. read more

On 11/29/12 I gave this place a 5 star review. Today changed all of that and I now have no intention of bringing my business back to Anderson. 10 years ago I bought a perpetual plaque at another trophy shop that has since closed up shop. 2 years ago, I came here when the former shop was closing and then again because I had had such great service to add more names to the plaque. They did this happily and for a very reasonable price. Today I went back in for the next entry on the perpetual plaque. None of the people I worked with in the past (Greg, Lacey) were there...I think they might be gone, as I did not see their business cards on display either. I was informed that a single entry lasered onto the perpetual plaque, something that takes roughly 15 minutes at the most, was going to be $15. In past years it was $10. I expressed my displeasure about the jump in price, and after consulting with her supervisor, the salesperson informed me that $15 was the new standard for people who buy their items elsewhere. Additionally, I was dismayed that as a regular customer who had a regular salesperson, that this shop chose to not contact repeat customers and let them know that their accounts had been taken over. It would have been nice to know that the personal touch that had once existed was still there. So basically because 10 years ago I went to a store that is no longer open, I get the privilege of paying more for a simple job. Instead of welcoming me as a returning customer, who, incidentally, will need the extension of the plaque really soon (meaning I am planning to spend more money), I was treated with disdain. Anderson Trophy will no longer be getting my business for any of the organizations with which I work and I will be looking forward to writing positive reviews on the place that I do find who understands what it means to welcome in customers who have the potential to come back time and time again. read more

I was champion of my Fantasy Baseball League two years in a row. But this past year, I lost. Don't ask me how. Maybe like Icarus, I flew too close to the sun. But in any case, after the tears subsided, I needed to get our league trophy updated with the new champion's name added to the Champions' Plaque. Which meant, I needed to go to a trophy shop. And luckily enough, I stumbled onto greatness at the Anderson Trophy Company. I dealt with Yvette, who couldn't have been kinder and more helpful. When I explained I didn't live in the area, she was able to rush the job order to get it done while I went to lunch, so I wouldn't have to hit freeway traffic coming back later in the day to get it. The work they did on the trophy was top-notch. Very excited to present it to our new champion on draft day, his name engraved into the plaque as our 2012 champion. But watch your back, Andy.
